For those who didn't read my post yesterday, i have a lovely case of pink eye (first time i have ever had it) which i got from having a cold (i dont work with kids).
So i went to the doctors and he gave me some drops. last night i put the drops in my eyes and some landed on my skin and guess what? my skin around my eye became insanely itchy as well as my eye, so i called the drug store, where i was told it was probably and allergic reaction to the drops and went to the hospital (it wasnt too bad, i was only there for a couple of hours).
So have you ever had an allergic reaction to a medication?

Oh no, did they find a medication that you can use? I am not allergic to anything, other than the typical poison ivy type of reaction. I know the drops did burn my children's eyes, just a little at first, but then it would feel better..

You always have to be careful with medications. These things can literally kill you. It is good that you went to the hospital immediately. I think the doctor should be wise enough to ask you first if you are allergic to something before prescribing any medication to you in the first place.

I am highly allergic to penacillin which I only found out after taking it for a complaint I had, prescribed with antibiotics after using it I came out in a horrid rash all over my body and it itched like crazy! I had to stop immediately, I went back to the doctor who said I had an allergic reaction to penacillin now its on my records that I am allergic to it, even when I go for ops, I have to tell the hospital I am allergic to it, so I have to where a red band instead of the usual white one! I am also allergic to wasp stings as well, and have to carry an epipen around with me during the Summer months and wasp season. One sting could potentially kill me! Scary...

Hi cher!
Here in our country the pink eye is popularly called "sore eyes" with eyes that are reddish and lots of "morning stars". ^^
I also have allergies to some medication but not eye drops, none that I know of at least. I am allergic to pain killers specifically Ibuprofen. I once took Alaxan with Ibuprofen for toothache and after a while, my eyes were bulging and itchy. So everytime I go to the doctor, I always tell them I have allergies to Ibuprofen so they won't prescribe me medicines with such.

This is one of the reasons I don't use medication unless really needed. My body will react to anything that has a side effect. So I understand just how you feel.

Thankfully, no, I've never had an allergic reaction to a medication. However, my sister did not too long ago and it was just terrible. You see, Kathryn was on amoxicillin for an ear infection and my sister gave her a dose of it. As a reflex, she licked the spoon before throwing it in the sink (she'd taken amoxicillin many times in her life). About twenty minutes later she got violently ill. It turned out that she had developed an allergy to the medication so now she has to take alternative medications for infections or she could have an anaphylactic reaction since her first allergic reaction was so bad.

Well, I start throwing up when I have codeine, but the doc isn't sure its a "real" reaction or just an empty stomach one... I have, however, had reactions to the corn starch added in medications, so I am careful to screen all meds so I don't have it again!

Different medications react differently to others. Doctors may not know about the patients history when he prescribed medications. I had that terrible experience when I went to see a doctor for the first time. He gave me a new brand of BP pills for my hypertension. I told him the name of the pills that I take regularly from the government clinic but he thought that another brand would be good for me. The first night I took it I feel so drowsy and my head was spinning. The next morning I went back to him and told him the impact of the medications. He checked the note inside the box and found that I may be sensitive to something that is contained in the pills and withdraw the pills and gave me a milder one. I feel fine with the new pills without any bad reactions.

Yeah, I'm allergic to a determined medicine. I must not take it, but I say that to the physician before he is going to give me a recipe. If you're allergic, you have to know the name of the medicine you can't take, in order to mention that to your doctor. Be very carefully with your eyes and I hope you'll get recovered.

by god's grace,i have never got any allergic reaction till date.once i had strong coughing for many days and that was not getting cured by the regular prescription so doctor took that as an allergic reaction and gave me medicines accordingly.
so this is the only account that i have.

wow. I feel bad for you!
Allergic reaction is very danger ever if you don't know which kind of medicine is bad for your body.
I never had allergic reaction with medicine, the only thing that I need to be careful is with bugs. I am allergic with bug bite and when this happen my body turn red.
So I really am concerned about all this stuff.
Take care!

That's not good. When I was 27 I had to get a penicillin shot for an infection I had and found out that I am allergic to anything with cillin in it. I broke out in a rash and had little blisters all over my body had to go back to the hospital. Hope your pink eye goes away soon. I don't trust too many medicines any more after hearing that if you take this or that it could kill you or cause some other kinds of reactions.

What kind of eye drops you are using? There are lots of people who are allergic to antibiotics. So I assume it's antibacterial drops like Gentamycin, though it's my first time to hear allergies from eye drops. You have to take note the component of that medication,so you can prevent allergic reactions from the same components in the future.

I hope that you will get better cher. Isn't it just a sore eyes?
I don't know if it is allergic reaction, but after 2 hours of taking 2 pain-reliever I vomit terribly, but after that I'm just fine, looks like my body resist the pain reliever capsule.
