Lying vs The Truth

If I tell you I'm about to lie, and then I go ahead and tell you that the moon is made of cheese, then my statement that I'm about to lie is a truth, while the statement about the moon is a lie. So, first, you would have to know whether the supposed false statement is indeed false. It could be that I tell you I'm going to lie to you, and then I make a statement that is actually the truth, but you do not know that it is true. You would take it as a lie, but in actuality the first statement that I'm going to lie to you is a lie, and the second statement, which is supposed to be a lie, is a true statement. It's a nice game to play. But it can actually be used to say something which can not be said in any other way without offending. Satire is one such method. A person who writes a satire is saying that the satirical piece is a lie, but it actually contains a truth that would offend if said openly. Karim

Hmm, this is really a tough one. I would say that if you admit upfront that you are going to lie, then you are in essence telling the truth. However, I honestly can't think of any kind of an example where someone would do that. I know that there are times that I need to tell small lies in my life so that I can get through without hurting someone. However, I can't think of any time that I would say to someone that I was going to lie to them.
