Can We Pray Directly to God Without Using The Rosary?

Every time she asked me to join her to pray the rosary, I would asked her if I could pray directly to God because I have lots of things to do on the work online. She would always told me that rosary is very important and the most powerful prayer. Yes, I do understand the rosary, but it is a mandatory to use the rosary to pray to God? She would accuse me of being lazy every time I asked her if I could pray directly to God. She would told me that most people tend to pray directly to God because people knew that praying with the use of rosary is a long prayer. It requires sacrifice to go to heaven and praying with the use of rosary is a sacrifice -- because rosary is a long prayer. I think it takes 15 to 30 minutes praying if we use a rosary to pray to God.
Is it a mandatory?

Introvert Shy.. I assume you are a catholic right? It would be a lot better if your hear it from a catholic point of view as well. I have studied in catholic schools and i would agree that never was it mentioned in the bible that it is necessary to pray the rosary. It is however, necessary to pray... either directly to God or indirectly by getting your message across through our Holy Mother. I would also agree with you that a rosary is a long prayer. In fact, JP2 once said that there is a challenge in praying the rosary because the prayers are repetitive; and since it is repetitive, mouth service is most likely the outcome.
I am not a religious person but i do pray the rosary even if it takes so much of my time. In fact, we pray the rosary as a family.
I would also need to caution you to direct sensitive questions like these to the proper catholic avenues like to your parish priest or a reliable catholic network as they would be able to explain to you how powerful a rosary can get. Like you said, you need to accomplish lots of things online, a rosary is nice to squeeze in during your offline time. Some may think of your act as laziness and some as being practical. Why would i want to send a message to God via Mama Mary when i can go to God direct anyway? It is actually your choice... but if this is bothering you, ask a priest... ask a very good priest... dont ask the people here.... not even me. i may have answered your question for now... for the deeper things, always ask a priest... ask a very good pirest...

Grap. The reason why i told Introvert Shy to inquire with a priest is because it has something to do with catholic teachings. Why would i raise a catholic question in a universal website? Wont i be inviting other thoughts contrary to what i believe in? It is just like... if you have a problem with your brother, go ask your brother direct not through your sister who has no idea what your brother has in mind.
Furthermore, i wont even dare replying to your question because your question would then lead to another question... because as you said... you dont agree with us catholics anyway.. Dont you think it is stupid and pointless to explain everything to people like you who wont even try to listen? If you have questions about the catholic faith, go ask our Pope.
Stop hitting on us catholics! You wont see our kind hitting on you!
IntrovertShy... These are the things that i so dislike about discussions on catholic stuff. Haaaayyyyyy... Like i said, and repeatedly so... never ask catholic stuff on in here... hayyyyyyyy. Just ask a good priest.. a very good priest...

Ooohhh... I am so guilty to post a discussion topics like this. I asked this question because I am so tired hearing from her that I am being lazy if I choose not to pray with the use of the rosary. I just want to pray directly to God. I am a Catholic, but I am not against any teaching of a Catholic. I was just confused of why she would keep telling me that how lazy I am and it is just because I do not want to pray the rosary. I just want to pray directly to God. I thought, it is a mortal sin for those people who does not pray with the use of the rosary even if I choose to pray directly to God. I thought it is a strict rules and a mandatory to pray with the use of a rosary -- so to clear my mind, well, I asked a question here on this forum.

Graceekwenx, If your brother won't listen to you, you should get more people to talk to him. IntrovertShy says it's a "she" who insists on praying the rosary. I suspect that a Catholic priest would take the standard line but it probably depends on which one you ask. Therefore I think it would help IntrovertShy, and maybe others to hear the opinions of non-Catholics, particularly Protestants.
Not sure what question you're not replying to. Generally people who are unwilling to explain their positions know they're in the wrong. The Catholic tendency to add non-Biblical teachings to their religion is the main reason people have problems with Catholicism (although lots of people have problems with Christianity generally).
"Hitting on Catholics"? You do know what the term "hitting on" means in North American vernacular? I respond to what I think you mean, there are Catholics who will strongly argue for their faith. I guess IntrovertShy's "she" is one of them.

Yes it is true that prayer is the way to communicate to God is like a telephone...
God is the only one direct mediator, and no one else..
And that is why we have prayer and any time we can talk to God..

Ahhh. Is that so? 108 beads? So, Hindu religions has also a method of using a rosary to pray. That is very interesting. I didn't know that Hindu religion has a rosary, I thought it is only from Catholics -- he he

The rosary, or at least the beads and the basic shape, isn't even Christian. Like almost everything else the church stole the idea from the previous religions. Same with statues, gold and silver cups, and all sorts of decorations.
You would think after 2000 years, they would read their Bibles and understand that God listens without all that crap.

Oh. Buddhism e? I remember Jet Li. I saw one of his movie that he's holding a beads and praying something and then, I remember the rosary because, we, Catholics also pray each beads of the rosary. Why is that so? Ha ha -- does it mean, those Buddhism have a rosary too? Sorry. I asked this question. It just came into my mind because you mention about a rosary that came from Buddhism.

It is true that rosary is only a beads, and form like a neckles....This been use for many years by the catholics, and until now...
If we pray without those things, God will hear our prayer from the heart..

I don't use a rosary, this is how i pray, i light some incense sticks, and also a wick lamp with ghee as fuel, offer flowers, sit in our puja room alone, recite verses from our holy books, at times 108 times, i feel it helps.
Happy posting, cheers.

Praying to God directly is how he wants us to pray. Many faithful individuals past and present have prayed to God without using a Rosary. God wants sincere individuals to pray to him whenever they need to. He encourages them to pray sincerely and from the heart not repeating the same things over and over again.-Matthew 6:7 so don't feel discouraged if you don't use the Rosary. It is not mandatory by God, it may be mandatory by a religion.

Ah. Okay. Thank you. Now, I understand.
I thought, I am going to hell or something if I choose not to pray with the use of the rosary. She was just so devoted praying with the use of the rosary and maybe, that's the reason why she would easily get annoyed and tell me that I am being lazy if I told her that I would just choose to pray directly to God.
I think it is just depend on the person. Oh yes, may be a mandatory by a religion.
It is all from the heart.

Prayer can be as simple as a thought. Religions and people like to control your actions. Do you really need a middleman between you and God? As for deciding which way is better, I'm sure God would rather hear what's on your mind rather than reciting the same old thing over and over. It's about communication and not how much you have to go through to get the message across. God is about Intelligence and not about suffering and sacrifice. WE are all meant to THINK!!

I agree with you that it's important for us to express our thoughts to God. Our sincere thoughts rather than repeating the same things over and over again. If we had a friend that talked to us that way all the time everytime they wanted to talk with us (repeating the same things over and over again) we wouldn't be very close to them and we would probably avoid him or her. We need to be sincere and speak from the heart with our prayers.

Prayer is our way of communication with GOD.
How can we communicate well with HIM using a rosary making recital.
Isn't rosary is saying the same prayer again and again?
GOD want us to speak with HIM directly from our heart and not from memorizing a line.

Of course you don't need the rosary to pray. If your friend enjoys this method of praying, that is fine for her. But God does not dictate to us how we should talk to Him or what we should say. I, personally, have never liked the rosary. I don't understand what it really is.

With due respect to the catholics, I don't use the rosary in praying. I pray directly to God. The only prayer in the Rosary that I recite is the Lord's Prayer because according to the Holy Bible this is the only prayer that Jesus taught us. However, because I have gotten used to the other prayers, I pray the Hail Mary, etc..

There is no part in the bible that says we must use the rosary to pray to God. So, anywhere, anytime, any place, whenever we feel like praying to Him we can do. God is greater that the earth and he can see and hear when we ask something or when we want to thank Him for all the blessing He gives us .

I agree with you. It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that we have to pray using the rosary. In fact the Bible states that we have to pray to God through Jesus only. We aren't even suppose to use images or idols in our worship.

I used to be a catholic sometimes back but not anymore. What I believe is that there is no better method of praying to God. What you need is dedication, faith and remain truthfully to yourself during prayer. Otherwise, let no one lie to you that using a Rosary or not having affects your relationship with God.

It is not at all necessary to pray with a rosary. If that is how someone else does it, that is good for the person because they get the same result. You can talk to God from wherever you are, even if you are driving. Prayer is a lot of things; praying, performing rituals, talking to God, pleasing God by being kind to others, and so on. How you pray does not matter. The person who does it with a rosary, that is her way; it is not wrong. It is your individual relationship with God.

Just because the Catholics say, "This is how you HAVE to do it", that doesn't actually mean that you have to pray that way. It is not mandatory.

I'm not Catholic so I don't know how to pray with a rosary. I have always that G-d hears all prayers and that all a person has to do is pray It didn't matter the method they used!

I would prefer that you spend the time reading the bible, starting with the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Then, you can word your own prayer directly to God.

The Bible tells that we can pray directly talk to God and without any using such kind of any tools,or any images..
The right way ,and biblical use for praying to God is through your own Words to pray and withut those rosary...
Jesus is the only way,and we should go directly to Him...That kind of thing is a traditions, and also is not found in the Bible to use that rosary...
We can only go directly to Jesus in Heaven who is God alive ...Jesus saith I am the way.....John14:6..

No.
I advice you to read the whole bible if you do not mind.
Even I do not finish reading it yet, I never read that Jesus tell/told or ask/asked us to pray with any tools.
He only taught us to pray in a hidden room or pray together (corporate pray).
He also taught us to read bible.
The only tool which useful for all condition is the Word of God.
To know the Word of God, you must read Bible.

well, i'm not religiously educated, but my personal point of view is, a prayer with or without the use of rosary is equally effective.. what matters most is the mindset we bring while praying. if we are sincere and honest when praying, god will listen to us. what good does a prayer make when we are praying just because for the sake of it and without the willingness of heart? well i do pray, and i know god answers prayers if we do it willingly and with pure intentions. maybe what i'm saying here is quite off from the main topic, but this is what i feel when it comes to the topic of praying.. sorry if i'm offending anyone here..
