Fatness .. Is it Ok in your mind to be heavy or fat why or why not

There are so many opinions on this very topic . Is it ok to be fat .. to be heavy . .or is it not ok to be fat or larger? What is your opinion? If you say its not ok to be fat or larger; why do you say this? Is it because what you hear day after day and see everywhere? If you think it' ok to be fat . .why do you think its ok to be fat?
Are you a promoter of Body acceptance. Who is right . those who diet eternally or those who eat freely . WHat is your opinion???
I, myself, say let a person weigh what they will as long as they are healthy. IF you are sick, and needing to lose for health reasons than go for it. If you are healthy as can be .. stay as you are if you have extra pounds. .What do you think???

Hi little franciscan: I think you should love yourself the way you are but that should not be an excuse to don't care about your health. I don't think is ok when people are just to thin that they are actually destroying their health but same applies with too fat people because they are increasing their risk to be affected by diseases connected with weight as for example risk of a heart attack.
Being right now in a good weight I know how hard is to deal with your weight control, simply because eating is a pleasure. But I know I need to care for myself and that's the reason why I do exercise everyday and I also try to control my meals.

I think one knows if they are healthy .. if one is able to do all
one needs to do without exhaustion or becoming ill. don't worry about
the scale. One's health is alwasy and should always be . the determining
factor.

It depends on how I feel. But sometimes I feel as if Muetti criticizes my weight, saying that I gained it and I have to feel the pain of buying bigger clothes. That was really souring.
But I use EFT, a tapping technique, to get over it. I also meditate on self-esteem to overcome that problem.
But I try to eat healthy and exercise, even if I'm fat - or so it seems. I added in Oxycise! to the lifestyle. Now some people shrug it off as a scam, but combine it with healthy eating and exercise, I mostly doubt it is.

Many people point at those who have extra weight like they don't
try to stay fit; but most people who are considered overweight do
exercise and do move around and don't stuff themselves.. It's not
so much that they don't care but they love life and food is something
that is one way to do so.

Love your body. I believe it that, whether you are fat or slim or what.. love your body in that way you can be happy and of course have to make sure you are healthy.
i was 45 kl when i was in college, i was slim and bf said i was sexy lol.. no matter how much i eat i do not get fat.. i was happy that way, coz i know i was thin yet healthy but nonetheless i really do not mind...until i got pregnant and i zoomed to 72 kilos!! Imagine how big i got and i got into depressive state, i thought i was ugly and all..it was hard to accept plus the responsibility that came along and seeing all those women sexy and fit.. it was hard. But the only person who helped me get through it was myself.
I decided to loose weight not because i think i am ugly, since i know beautiful women have bigger curves lol but seriously, i decidd to loose weight not because i want my huby to say i am sexy again but because of my health. I started to have rapid breathing, plus i cannot sustain long walks..and my sugar level is high. SO i did loose weight..and now i am 59 kl..and i hope i will get to loose more and maintain a healthy weight.. It is ok to be fat but as long as it is healthy. I do not want to just be fat or thin but not healthy. Health is wealth.

How do you feel about losing the weight .. do you feel better about you
or are you doing this for someone else's feelings. What do you feel losing
weight says about you?

I agree. When too much weight is needed to be shed off, for health purposes, then by all means. But I also think that one has to maintain a weight in the normal range, as a precaution for whatever disadvantages that may arise from being too heavy.. I've been exercising and dieting for a very long time haha and I have to admit that being fat, although healthy and energetic, gives negative impression to ourselves. It affects our morale and confidence. So I suppose it would be better to stick to the appropriate range,.. Good Day!

Does the negative images come from the ideas society sets.. Do you think
that perhaps society sets unrealitic goals which ends up making some people
feel bad.. ?

I know I am overweight. But, I accept myself as I am. I am not willing to make any major, permanent, changes to my diet. This is ok, as long as I also accept the fact that I will develop serious (and unnecessary)physical problems from not eating properly.

So you believe that keeping your weight will end in physical problems?
I don't know, then, if that is a healthy reason to stay as you are. iF
you would have said i am happy with my weight and I feel healthy despite it
I would say you have a healthy mindset; but saying you know you will have
health problems raises a red flag.

It is ok to be fat as long as you are fit. It is really up every individual aspect of life, there are lot of people who are comfortable even though they are fat. so fit is the important not Fat.

I agree with you ..it's not a fat issue but a healhty issue.
If someone is completely happy and healthy why change that. even
if society pushes every campaign there is about weight.

I am pleased to see in the response I have read that mylotters are accepting of those who may be called fat. In the broader mix of society, I think there is a certain amount of discrimination against people who are overweight or obese. People who are maintaining a good healthy wait generally look down on those who do not.
I am obese, no doubt about it. It is not a genetic condition and it definitely does impact my health. However, since the battle against weight is complicated, it is no easy thing to just 'lose some weight'. That seems to be a very difficult thing to do.
Who has the right to criticize another person for being overweight? Certainly not strangers or casual acquaintances. Maybe my wife and children do have that right, even though they do not exercise. After all, they do have a stake in me as a person.

I think that weight is not the issue.. being health is.
If you feel healthy and are able to complete all your work
and are not sick . keep the weight you have; it's your healthy
weight.. Many times, hoewever, weight loss is not for health reasons
but for body image.. for feeling good about oneself. .being accepted by
others. .One has to decide for oneself what they feel they need to
be happy and healthy.

It would take me a while to get to that 'body image' part. I do agree there is a distorted perspective that any extra weight is bad. Not everyone is going to have the perfect Hollywood body. Many women need to know that they can be themselves and still be beautiful and sexy.

I think its ok to be chubby as long as you are healthy. But not obese just chubby. I cannot live my life to the fullest if my body weight is not normal. I still think its ok as long as you are healthy.

I think that is the important keyword, wonghoiyee: "healthy" as
someone can have the "ideal weight" and be totally unhealthy
in so many ways. The important thing is to be happy and healthy.
I cannot imagine anyone being too happy if they spend their time
counting points, calories and transfats. Our bodies are equipped
to handle so much and each one is so different; wouldn't you agree?

I am too conscious when it comes to my body weight.
I don't like to become fat.
I am not comfortable with my body size as I gain weight for few years now.
I am trying to lose some weight and get back to my preferred size.

Jaiho. why are you not comfortable with your body size..Is it because you are not comfortable or because people you hang with make you feel bad or because the talk about weight, where you are is focused on being thin???
Svjomboy. what is a kilo to a pound..for those of us in America who measure with pounds vs kilos ? So your answer to the pounds is the gym? Have you ever thought what the gym is doing to inside .. Outside its making you your ideal weight but what about inside.. It's telling you something inside.. what is it?

Being a fat person is not a big problem, but many are suffering by thinking about this. If one should maintain a good diet no need to go for artificial methods.

Hi LFS! My unequivocal view is that it is not Ok to be fat or overweight. We see both types of people every day-those who are fat & those, lean. There are so many troubles fat people have to put up with on an unending basis. Even if there are fat people who appear to be healthy they are at greater health risk in the longer term. There are a set of ailments which the fat people are predisposed to, contrasted with those that are lean or at least not fat. Prominent among these are diabetes, heart disease & stroke, fatty liver disease and pregnancy complications.
It may be a good feeling to binge. But that may amount to indiscretion. Each of us is born with a particular constitution type and is able to stand a set of foods while being unable to assimilate certain foods easily. What is important to take care is that the assimilation is well toned up. That is the reason for some people blessed with the luxury of carefree eating. Regardless of how much they consume, some people never accumulate fat. If some or endowed with such ability as a matter of intrinsic bless, other less fortunate ones have to do a lot to acquire similar ability.
It is my sincere suggestion for every one not develop a habit or attitude of indiscretion. Always stay conscious about the fat & weight and mind the BMI [Body Mass Index] without being lax. This site says healthy weight is not a diet-it is a lifestyle: http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/index.html

That's exactly what I think. For me, I don't really care if the person is fat. It doesn't matter. It's okay to be fat. For as long as the person is healthy, then it wouldn't matter how big he/she really is.

Good day, friend. I think nowadays many girls are obsessed with their appearance and weight. Though I don't care much about my clothing, still weight bothers me a lot. So I don't think it okay to be fat. Now I am a little bit overweight and I could always hear someone making fun of me. That makes me feel angry and embarrassed. On one hand, I don't think there's any problem if I am a little bit fat. But the truth is, people care a lot about how you look and they prefer girls of good-looking apprearance and perfect stature. So I am under great pressure to lose weight.
But at the same time, just don't push yourself too much. If you do have difficulty losing weight, just relax and keep good mood.

Sometimes those of "good looking appearance" may be complete snots. and have no personality at all, don't you agree..? You buy a bag of nice looking apples, pay the highest price for it, get home and take a bit and worms! yikes, worms! is all the beauty of the apple enough to keep you eating it, despite the worms.?? ?There is much more to beauty than whats on the surface...don't you agree?

being fat is not too bad until for some extinct. fatness can be a curse only when it is out of limit and excessive. obese can lead to many diseases like diabetes which is very harmful for our health. so being fat (not obese) in my view is not bad.

How do you explain diabetes in the very thin? I don't think diabetes
is strictly associated with the obese or fat. There are many who are
considered overweight and do not have diabetes

littlefranciscan I think we big people should be left alone as most of us already know we are overweight and we have doctors who are already caring for us. we have mirrors and we can see we are big.
leave us alone and let us carry on in dieting the fat off and not jump on us. why must strangers tell me "do you know overweight can cause diabetes?" I have got so I say 'and did you not know that stopping an utter stranger and insulting them about their weight it rude? At least my mom taught me not to do that. good day." There is no need to stop overweight people and harass them at all.Nobody knows their story so do not judge. instead walk on by and think about your own welfare and well being.I doubt if people stop a tall thin person and tell them "did you know your are too tall? "so why pick on us bigger people.?

I think it depends on how one feels about themselves. These days, society wants people to believe that thin is healthy. In most cases yes, but that is not the only way. We hear it all the time from the media about being a lean, thin, athletic person. But at the same time, if we are fitting into that mold, then we are shamed for not becoming that ideal figure. Grotesquely obese is one thing, yes that is not healthy, but what about people such as football players, weightlifters, bodybuilders, people with large amounts of muscle mass? These people would be heavy because of the muscle, but have great strength, and cannot abide by standards that normal people would follow because they wouldn't make sense.
For me personally, I am a big boy, and I am not ashamed of it. I lift weights, and work manual labor jobs, and have played football off and on; all of which helped me get to where I am. Currently I'm 5'9" and I weigh 337 pounds. To most people, they would freak out at that number, since they associate that number with some morbidly obese person. I did myself since I have never thought of being that heavy until I blew past 300 pounds. I try to take care of myself as best as I can, especially since I am so heavy, but it doesn't feel bad. I actually feel more confident because I am bigger, and stronger, and in some case it does intimidate people, or have people wondering what do they feed me (a lot). I do run into opposition that I should be thinner, but my tradeoff is the amount of strength that I have, because I love lifting and moving heavy stuff. I am not some super athlete, nor am I trying to be one, just as long as I am healthy enough person to survive, and carry a piano occasionally.

I have read this in an article of readers digest. A fat woman who is an aerobic instructor has genes that causes her to be fat. Before she worked hard to lose weight but it made her feel weak and lonely. Then she found a group of heavy weights who are also into aerobics. She learned that being fat and fit is what really matters. It is okay to be fat as long as you are healthy phytsically, emotionally and intellectually.
Have a nice day

I think that it is really up to the individual. What right do I have to judge others on their physical appearance? Weight has to do with a lot of factors, some of which are beyond the control of the individual. I happen to be a skinny person, but it is not because I watch what I eat. I just happen to be blessed with a high metabolism. Too often when we see overweight people we assume that they just don't care or that they eat too much. Some people are just genetically programmed that way. I say we should simply accept others as they are.

I really love your answer Woody. You have a very healthy and fair answer.
I have been watching twitter comments and blog posts going back and forth
on this very subject. It even appears that those in the medical field are
divided on what really is healthy and what is not.
So I ventured to take it to all my friends here on mylot to see what the
general populations of people think..
Thanks for responding.
