What, if anything, did you do to prepare for the last Harry Potter film?

One of my very closest friends and I, made ourselves a Harry Potter Challenge! We are both two of the biggest Harry Potter fans out there...we even describe ourselves as being each-others "twin cores"! Haha!
Anyway, two months before Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part II was released we came up with our Harry Potter Challenge. Here's what it was:
We had to re-read all seven books, and re-watch all seven movies before the final movie came out. That was a lot to fit in to our busy lives, but we did it. And man did we have hours of discussions about each book. I think that was the best part of the whole challenge, the bonding those books created!
Then, if we were able to finish all the books and all the movies in time for the release of the last one, since we live in Florida, we would treat ourselves with going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure! Needless to say, we finished everything about a week before the movie was released. So we saw it opening weekend in 3D which was AMAZING, and then the next weekend we went to the theme park. If you are a true Harry Potter fan, you have got to visit the park. The ride through Hogwarts Castle was simply one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had, and I was so glad to have done it all with my "twin core" :D
I was just curious to see if there were any other die hard Harry Potter fans here in myLot that did anything to get ready for the end of a decade of "the boy who lived"?

I didn't do what I should have done, I didn't reread the last book! And as it's the book I've read the least times, only once I think, I was a bit confused. I kind of remember half of it but not everything. I might reread it again soon, just to check what was in the book and what was added in the film

Yeah, there was definitely scenes added to the movie that were not in the book. Plus, like always, there were scenes left out of the movie that were in the book. All in all, I think they did a pretty decent job. My friend and I were very pleased!

Yeah, I agree that Part 1 was kind of dull... They stretched some of it out when they didn't need to and left out stuff that they shouldn't have. But, we have to consider the fact that they needed to set it up for Part 2 which had most of the action and the climax of the series. I do agree that they could have spiced it up a little bit though, geesh! And no, Torunn...there was NEVER enough Snape in any of the movies. He was the most interesting character in my opinion!

I preferred the last film to the second last film, which I didn't really like. Too much running around in the woods. Sure, they ran a lot around in the book too, but lot of other things happened too which would have been more interesting I think.
Not enough Snape in either film, but then I think that's been a problem with all the films. Not enough Snape in any of them :-9

Things sort of fell apart for me this year and we didn't even get to see the movie in the theater... but we are going to buy it this weekend!
I did read the book after it came out and have seen all the rest of them in the theater...
oh, and if you want to do well, here, reply to people who respond to your discussions - it makes friends and earns you more money...

Got done watching it about an hour and a half ago.
I really enjoyed it, but part of it is because I really enjoy seeing a movie that either follows or improves on a book.
I'm happy to say that I liked how it followed it in all the important ways.
Yeah, we didn't see that Neville had become a teacher - did like that he liked Luna.
In fact, all the things that were missing weren't that important in my never to be humble opinion.
Its like Order of the Phoenix, the whole "Elf Liberation Front" was a waste of time in my opinion, and was glad it was left out of the movie. And that Neville took job of helping Harry instead Dobby - not that I didn't like Dobby, but...

I'm sorry you didn't get to see it in the theater, but glad you will get to see it on DVD. You may have already seen it by now! Haha! If so, what did you think of it?
I do always respond to comments people leave...but occasionally I have to go short periods of time without being able to. Life does tend to consume a lot of my time on occasion. But, thanks for the tip...it didn't fall on deaf ears ;)

Haven't been able to afford any of the books.
I have been given the movies as gifts over the years, so I eventually have all of them. So I took a few days and watched them all, in order..
Thats all we could afford here..

Well, I'm glad you were able to "prepare" yourself for the last movie in whichever way you could :) It's a shame you haven't been given the chance to read any of the books yet. If you ever have the opportunity, you have got to jump on it. If you like the movies, you will absolutely cherish the books. So much more detail and story than you will ever see in the movies! Thanks for your response!

Before watching the last Harry Potter film, i made sure that i was able to read the whole set of the harry potter series so as to critic the movie and at the same time be guided on what to expect to see next during the film. I also read some articles about the launching of the movie and all of the details of the movie like where has it been shot.

Thanks for the response there, totor! Yeah, I surely did find myself comparing the movies to the books every movie. But we know the movies are almost never as good as the books, so I tried not to judge too harshly. I try to reguard them as separate entities. I think the first two movies followed the books extremely well and then they began to deviate after that. In the last movie, I thought Snape's scene at the end was done very well. It could have been a little longer, but it hit me right in the heart :)
Even though the movies may have been different from the books from time to time, the acting as far as the characters was always excellent!

I am lucky enough to be friends with a family of seven, all of whom love Harry Potter. We decided months before the film was set to come out that we would all go together, in costume. We bought our tickets weeks in advance and started working on costumes. Luckily, my old school uniform was very similar to the Hogwarts uniform, and so I was set when it came to the shirt, skirt, sweater, and shoes. All I had to do was take off my old school crest and iron on a Gryffindor crest that I ordered from eBay. Then, I had to go out and find a hat and socks, and, finally, I broke a branch off of a tree and carved myself a wand, which I made sure to measure in order to ensure that it was the same length as Hermione Granger's (my chosen costume for the movie). One of my friends and I also painted a flag featuring the HP7 logo, which we ran up her flagpole, and we got another friend to help us paint a Hogwarts crest. We used a projector to project the crest onto a piece of poster board on the wall, and sketched it before painting it.
The costumes, tickets, and decorations taken care of, my friends and I had a movie marathon for two days before the film. We watched all seven movies (with a sleepover in between) and even made Butterbeer. We finished the seventh movie only minutes before we had to get ready to go and see the premier! My friend's mother dyed all of the male family members' hair red and we rushed off. Some people gave us strange looks as we walked around town, but others insisted on taking pictures with us. We felt like celebrities as we walked past the line of people waiting to see the movie and got high-fives from a lot of them!
The movie itself was great, and all of us cried at one point or another. We were lucky to be in a theatre full of other costumed people weeping, so there was nothing to be ashamed of! It was a really fun experience, and I can't think of any other way I would have liked to live through the end of a series that had touched my life so deeply.

WOW! It sounds like you had an amazing time! Not only would that be an awesome experience to have your own "Weasley family", but the memories that must have created will bring happiness to you whenever you think of them! I know exactly what you mean about it touching your life deeply...it's wonderful when you find something that you can connect to so easily and when it ends, it's like saying goodbye to your closest friends...

I had the chance to re-read all the books right before seeing Deathly Hallows part one in theaters, and before part two came out I re-watched all the movies with a few fellow Harry Potter fans. I didn't want to get caught up in all the hype of the last film, because it just would have made me sad there wouldn't be any more! I did decide to dress in costume for the movie premiere though. I wore my Luna Lovegood costume that i had previously made for halloween. One of my friends made a huge cake in the shape of the Hogwarts Castle too :)

Sounds like you had a blast! It's always sad to see something you love come to an end... Hopefully we can look forward to many more wonderful books from JK Rowling...though none will take the place of HP :) Luna was always my favorite student!!
