Have you ever gone on a cruise?

Yesterday I visited a website where there was a description of a Russian cruise, and it sounded very interesting to me. People who buy that cruise get the chance to visit St Petersburg and Moscow and as well as some of smaller places, and it all takes 10 days. I have never gone on a cruise, but I think it sounds really interesting and I always wanted to visit St Petersburg and Moscow. It would also be the perfect chance to pratice my Russian as I am trying to learn the Russian language at the moment. I can't afford it at right now, but I bookmarked the site, and I would like to go on a cruise like that one day.
Have you ever gone on a cruise? If you have tried it, where did you go and did you enjoy it? If you haven't tried it, would you like to or do you prefer to travel around by car, bus or train instead?

Well back when I was a lot younger, I have ridden a Boat that took you places and it was a lot of Fun. I have not had the pleasure yet to go on a Cruise, but it is something my husband and I have seriously discussed saving up for.

I've had a river cruise (Rhine) and two Ocean ones (one to Norway, other to France (Brest), Spain (Vigo) and Portugul (Lisbon). Great holidays, and would totally recommend them, not as expensive as they used to be, especially if you can get discounts for them.

I haven't gone a cruise either, but my husband and I want to save up for that Russian cruise, because it sounds really interesting and we get the chance to visit several different places. We will visit the big cities like Moscow and St Petersburg, but we will also get the chance to visit some of the small towns between Moscow and St Petersburg. It sounds very interesting, but we don't have the money to pay for a cruise at the moment, so we will have to wait.

I felt the same way when I read about that Russian cruise. It all sounded so exciting and I really felt like buying the cruise straight away, but that is not possible, because I don't have the money to pay for it. I will have to put it on my list of the things that I want to do in the future instead of doing it right now which seems a lot more tempting than saving and waiting

Hi dear!
I have also read and heard about Cruise, however so far I have not got any opportunity to go on a Cruise.
I understand that it is quite expensive to go on a Cruise and everybody can not afford it.
I am not sure if I will be able to make it.

I wish that your dreams should come true and someone should try to arrange for less expensive trips/cruise.
All the best.

Hi! I hope that you have received the PM that I sent you
It is a pity that cruises are so expensive. I hope that I will be able to afford it one day if I save up the money, it will be a long term goal, because I wouldn't be able to save up that kind of money in a short period of time, that would be impossible for me. I was really excited when I read about it, I knew that it was expensive and that it wasn't realistic at the moment, but I always like to dream about the places that I want to visit in the future. The list of countríes that I want to visit is very, very long, because I love travelling.

I love journeys or trips of any kind whether it is by boat, car, bus or train.During my college days i have made many tours in my country by all these means except the ship. Now it is virtually imposiible for me to undertake any sort of trip since i am permanently disabled and wheelchair bound.I have never taken a ship cruise and in this life never will. Not just because of my diasability but mainly because of the money factor, i just can`t afford it as i do not have any income since i am retired.

I am happy to hear that you had the chance to visit many places when you were in college. I understand that it is hard or nearly impossible to travel with a disability if public transportation isn't accessible for people in wheelchairs. I my country the situation for people with disabilities is different. It is possible to use the train when you are in a wheelcar. You have to arrange your trip in advantage in order to get help from the staff, and it requires more planning to travel when you are in a wheelcar, but it is possible.
Yes, the money is another factor. I work, but I am still not able to buy a cruise like that without saving up for a long time. I guess rich people are the only people who can go on a cruise like that without saving up for a long time.

I have never been on a cruise before. The thought of being in the middle of the ocean kind of scares me, but I might want to try to go on a cruise one day. I heard it's a lot of fun if you go with lots of people.

I can imagine that it would be a lot of fun to go on a cruise with many other people. I have travelled in a large group before, we went to Italy together and we had a really good time. I will always remember the days that we spent there.

I have been on a cruise. But not this kind of cruise
It's only a one-hour cruise I guess. It's like a floating restaurant that sails within some parts of the city.
I have also dreamt of being on a luxury cruise. I'd love to visit places in other countries. I just don't think I can afford it.

A floating restaurant that sounds nice, I have never had the chance to visit a place like that. Where was it (which city)? Your repsonse reminds me of a short trip that I went on when I was in Riga in Latvia. I sailed around on the Daugava river for a couple of hours and it was a very nice experience. We were able to see the city from the ship and it was a beautiful sight. I took many pictures and just enjoyed the view from the ship. I went through a lot of trouble to get to the ship, because I couldn't find it, but it was worth it.

It was in Dubai and I was just invited by a friend who was celebrating his birthday. We enjoyed cruising around while having a buffet dinner on the cruise. The second time I got on it was when I was invited on a birthday celebration of my colleague's baby.
Your experience seems great too, I'm still thinking when I can get to experience those luxurious cruise

Yes I have. first one a few years back was on the River Rhine, started in Cologne and had 7 days cruising on Rhine (and also Moselle). Cruised from early morning to lunch time, then had time to visit the towns that we stopped at. finished at Koblenz. Most relaxing holiday I had had at the time.
Since then took family on cruise to Norway (from Southampton) traveled round the fjoirds sailing overnight and visiting towns during the day - places like Floom, Bergan and Stavanger. Went in May, and was cold and lot of snow, but great holiday and I would recommend it. All food included in price and cabins were more than adequate. Price (including sea-view balcony) was around £80/night per person, good value when you include all food and travel and entertainment and around what you could pay for a reasonable price hotel per night. Also got £50 per cabin for paying for things like drinks (only tea and coffee provided, other drinks are chargeable).
Enjoyed it so much that went again last year in April, this time from Southampton to Europe Atlantic Coast - including Spain, Portugul and France. Even though it was only April temperature was around 32 degrees C (around 90 F) so very hot.
If you can, then I would say go for it. Enjoyable and relaxing. P&O or Cunard would be my choice, I would prefer not to sail on a ship where the language of the operators don't have English as first language.
Hoping to go again soon.

Would like to cruise to St Petersburg as well. However if you want to tour the city on your own you need a visa from Russia. Organised tours arranged by the tour company (direct from the ship) don't usually require a visa as that is organised by the tour company, but you have to stay with the tour party at all times.

I usually prefer to travel independently, but because of the rules about visa etc I think it would be easier to use a tour company when I visit Russia. A group tour is not the way that I usually travel, but in this case I think that it would be easier that way. I don't like the idea of staying with the tour party all the time, but as I can understand from your comment it would be neccesary to do that if I don't get my own visa.

I enjoyed reading about your cruises. It sounds really nice. I like the idea of visiting many different places and relaxing on the ship as well, it sounds like a great combination. I would love to have a balcony with sea-view, it would be a great place to relax with a book and a drink while I enjoy the view The company that arranges the cruise in the Russia that I mentioned when I started the discussion also arranges cruise in other parts of the world for instanse in Europe and those cruises sound interesting, too.

I have been on 3 cruises so far, and I'm going on my fourth next year. I personally love cruising, and love visiting all the ports I have been to. So far I have been to Puerto Rico, St.Marteen, Nassau Bahamas, Grand Cayman, St.Thomas, Haiti, Jamaica,Domincan Republic, Cozumel Mexico. Next year I'm going back to st marteen, st thomas, and Nassau. And I'm going on the Third largest cruise ship in the world which is Norwegian Epic. Make sure u do your research on that Russian cruise, there are many cruise lines that offer good prices on those cruises. I'm a travel agent and come across really good prices all the time.

It was great to hear about the cruises that you have been on. It sounds like you have had the chance to visit a lot of interesting places. Some of my friends recently visit the the Dominican republic and they enjoyed their vacation a lot. I would like to visit Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican republic and a few other places on the same trip I would also like to visit St Thomas, St John and St Croix, because those islands used to belong to my country (Denmark)

Hi Porcospino
Well, not on any cruise but yes a small 2 hour on boat - I did that twice till today. As a kid, we were taken to the lake Chilika(bird sanctuary) and there I got my first chance to be on a boat. The second time, it was Satpada (another end of this lake where dolphins appear in winters).
But as you mention, these cruises are much expensive and also there arent many places they connect to here in India - maybe we havent got people who prefer cruises. So it has mostly to be a Foreign country. Also the fact that I am scared of being in water reserves. I might not consider them.
Ever since I have got myself the illness, I prefer to travel via trains only even buses and cabs for long distance make me feel bad and uncomfortable.
I wish, your plans of being on the cruise come true soon and you do get a chance to use the Russian language you are learning so hard

It is was nice to hear about your boat trip. It made me think about the first time I was on a boat, that was many years ago and I was travelling with my parents. Yes, cruises are expensive, I would have to save up the money first, and that will definately take some time, but it is nice to dream and think about the things that I would like to do one day. Thanks for your encouragement I hope that my dream will come true one day. I remember that you told me about your illness in another discussion, and I can easily imagine that it creates some limitations and affects your choice of transportation, but it is good to hear that you are still able to travel by train.

No, I never been on cruise before. even though I had millions of plans on get on a cruise, I just didn't do it, or I have to go with someone, so I won't be that lonely on my own. I want to go to Caribbean islands, Bahamas, and many more places. About Russia, I wish that I have that much money to go there too.

I think that it could be interesting to visit the Caribbean islands. One of my friends went want on a trip to the Caribbesn islands and she had a very good time there. I think that it would be a very different experience to spend a vacation there, because the climate is extremely different from the cold climate in my own country, and I think that it would be a nice change. Yes, a cruise is more enjoyable when we have someone to share it with. I wouldn't like to go on my own, I think that I would be bored and lonely that way, but it I travel with my husband it could be a lot of fun.

I went on a cruise a few years back from Florida in the US to the Caribbean. We stopped off at the US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica and also Trinidad. It was beyond amazing! I would love to go on another cruise in the near future but we will see what the future holds as life right now is so busy. I would suggest if you can, take advantage of the cruise and make sure you go with someone.
Best of luck!

I went to a cruise once. I lasted for a few weeks. We visited the usual island destinations like the Caribbean and stuff. It was pretty awesome. What I like most about it is when we actually get out of the ship and visit the destinations. Although there are also great activities inside. You can definitely gain a lot of weight because food is everywhere and the food I had was AMAZING.

I think it is great that you were able to visit the destinations as well. It sounds like a good combination. It is nice to be able to relax or participate in activities on the ship and enjoy the food , but it would also be important to me to explore the destinations. If I go on the Russian cruise I especially look forward to visiting St Petersburg and Moscow, but some of the other places also sound interesting.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a second honey moon. I like the idea of spending the cruise with your husband and it would be a nice way to enjoy the cruise together. I hope that you will have a great time when you go on that cruise. I also want to share the cruise with my husband, and when I read about the Russian cruise I immediately told him about it, because I was hoping that he would like the idea as well, and he did. So now we just need the money It will definately take a long time to save up for something like that, but I am happy that we both want to go on the cruise.

i really love to travel and explore the vast oceans in the comfort of a luxuriant cruise ship... my friend had an utmost sailing experience with a cruise and expedited from Singapore to Thailand for three days. There were about 11 of them and the price is really exuberant with an estimate of $12,000. That was really awesome, if you are affluent enough, the travel fee can be disregarded.

I am happy to hear that your friend enjoyed the cruise. $12000 that is really expensive, but I am sure that it is an amazing experience if you can afford it. The cruise that I looked at is not quite as expensive, but it still wouldn't be possible for us to go on that cruise without saving up for a long time. I hope that the cruise is still alvailable when we manage to save up the money that we need to pay for it. They also had many other interesting cruises on a that site, and I can spend a lot time just reading about the different places.

My favorite way to travel is by train. I went on a training vessel for one week one January up the River Thames. It was hard work with night watches and training episodes. It wasn't the sort of leisure cruise that you are discussing. I have been on ferries across stretches of water. There used to be an overnight ferry from Kent to the Netherlands which I went on and then got a train to Amsterdam. It had an indoor swimming pool on board. I shared a cabin with my friend and we were 17 years old. It was quite an adventure for us at that young age.
I wanted to visit Russia when I was 18 years old working as a children's nanny in Finland. However I needed a too expensive visa and accommodation was pricey. I wished to visit Russia when I visited the Baltic countries in 2008. Again the visa cost put me off.
I believe that on a cruise they would for example not spend enough time in each destination to do much sightseeing. Typically it would be a day from 10.00 until 17.00 then they would set sail again. It would give a flavor but not an in detail look at the destinations. Sailing around the Galapagos Islands is a trip on my wish list for the future. It would be to see all the wildlife.

Your trip to the Netherlands sounds nice. I want to visit Amsterdam again. I have been there, but I wasn't very old at that time and I wasn't very interested in sightseeing. It would be interesting to visit it again as an adult.
It is sad that a Russian visa is so expensive. When I was living in Estonia I once visited a city called Narva. Part of it is Estonian and the other part is Russian, I really wanted to cross the border and visit the Russian part as well, but I didn't have a visa so it was impossible.
You have a point about the destinations and the time that we would be able to spend there. I think that we would only be able to spend one day at each place, that would give us the chance to see some of the sights, but not there would be a lot of things that we wouldn't be able to do and see during a short time.

I have not been on a cruise also. I want to go on one. But my only concern is that I get seasick easily. That is why I have always hesitated. That is also the reason why I always travel by plane. I'd like to try a cruise even just once. Maybe I will just bring a lot of medicine for seasickness or dizziness.

I understand that you are worried about seasickness when you get seasick easily, and it is a good idea to bring lots of medicine in case you go on a cruise one day. My mother also gets seasick very easily and she doesn't like sailing at all. Personally I have only been seasick once, that happened when my boyfriend and I were sailing in a small boat, and it was a very bad experience, but I haven't have the same kind of problems on a big ship.
