If only Printer inks don't dry up...

My old printer isn't working anymore, so we thought about buying a new All-in-one Printer. We just could not decide which brand and model would be best. It's just gonna be for home use and we don't normally do bulk printings.
We want a good quality printer (of course, who doesn't want one of quality ).... and a printer that comes with an ink that cost cheap, so it would not be too difficult to spend the money for inks. I found HP printer inks so costly.
Do you have any recommendations on which All in one printer we can buy? I can't decide which one to buy whenever we are in the mall choosing for a good printer. If only printer inks don't dry up then I would not feel so confuse which printer to buy...

The hardest part of buying a printer is the cost on ink carts. I dont' know why those little things are so expensive other than the fact that they can be. We all have to have our printers! Supply and demand. I have a HP deskjet and it is $15 for black/white and $29 for color! I watch very carefully how much I use. I even have tried recycleable/refilled carts...and they work okay, but I still don't think I get the length of ink out of them that I do a new one. But for what I do...they work okay. My daughter bought a Kodak printer..says it works great and the carts are like $10 for B/W and $20 for color. I am thinking of getting one of those, but then mine works just fine and I can't make myself waste this one! So for now, I'll stick with the refilled carts and see how it goes. I can always buy a new one later!

For the first year it was under warrenty, I bought new...for that exact reason. If I used refilled, they could deny any repairs saying that was the problem. So I bought new and saved the receipts. After a year....all was still working well. I went one more year, just for safety and still..just fine (it is a deskjet) Then I started refilling my carts...take them to OFfice Max and refill them. However, the first time I did that the cart only lasted a short time....I think they just didnt' do it right. I choose Office Max as they had a thing where they'd buy back empty carts..and give you $3 toward store credit. So when I took my refilled, new cart there..they'd put their store sticker on it. I figured just to show it was refilled and not a new one...shop lifting purposes! But...after I refilled it once and took it back...they would say it couldn't be refilled for some mechanical reason so I had to buy a new one. Then take to refill, it was fine, but to refill a second time...again..mechanical reasons. That was when I thought about that sticker on it...I was wondering if they just said it couldn't be refilled as they knew they'd done it before, this was the second time on this cart..they didn't want to refill continuously so once a cart comes in with their own sticker on it...they just said it couldn't so the customer would buy new. So I took it to Walgreens. THey refilled it but said it didn't register right in some way. Something about it took all the ink it was supposed to, but their machine showed it wasn't right. They gave it to me for free! I used it, it worked fine for awhile till it emptied! Then I moved away from walgreens so I took it back to Office Max.
THey said it couldn't be refilled. Well... I bought a new one and then refilled that and thinking about the sticker they put on the cart....took the sticker off then took the cart back to refill a second time...guess what? THey refilled it! Took the sticker off, took it back a third time...they refilled it! So tip of the day...take the stickers off that a refill store puts on! But for safety reasons I will only refill up to 3 times...things just tend to wear out. So abouat once a year I'll buy a new one. But I have these last two times done it online with 123inks...half price and they have ben working great. They are not my empty carts, but others but still HP carts that they cleaned and refilled. I have no where to send my emptys so I am just hanging on to them until I find a recycle for money place! But that has been my experience with HP ink carts. THey seem to be the most expensive but just have them refilled at a decent place! The 123inks ...that is all they do so they have to be reasonably priced...Office Max just wants money from you I guess. THeir bad customer service cost them my business.

Hi coffeebreak
We're still into thoughts as to which printer to buy. It seems most people here are satisfied with their HP printer. We have also thought about refilling the carts but a bit scared if it'll damage the printer head. But I guess it will be up to us. on how we maintain our printers.

Oh what a nice experience you have... but finally you found out the trick for them to refill your cart! At least I have got the idea from you that I still need to buy a new one coz it also wears out if you just keep refilling it. We don't have those shops like the one you mentioned there but I do hope I can find a good shop to refill the carts. Thanks!

I have had my share of way expensive printers and in the end they broke and also the ink was very expensive.
Almost a year ago I bouth and HP D1660 for $29 in which the ink is very cheap and does allow for a great many prints. At first I thougt if I am going to replace so often I may as well get a cheap one and to my amazement my printer is still running great. It came with both black and white ink and so far I only replaced them both once. The total for both inks WAS $12. I read reviews and heard it was a poweful one and for that price I figure I take a chance and so far so good.

What I do is go to www.cnet.com
There you can pull up several and instantly get reviews/pros/cons about any electronics. It is very helpful because you get the opinions of not only the experts but real users too.

I normally search for user reviews when considering buying mobile phones But haven't done so for printers... I will check cnet for sure, real user's opinions is indeed a perfect way to get ideas before buying one.
Thanks dear!

That's exactly what I wanted. So far I haven't decided which one to buy. Maybe I had to check the malls and list down all printers I see, read reviews on the net and then decide. Choosing printers to buy is always the hardest for me.

A printer -- where the ink doesn't dry up -- has to invented and made. Probably manufacturers may be aware of technique. But they always want the ink to dry so that they can sell ink cartridges. Please go for a printer at the starting level if the usage is not much. I do not have a printer. In Chennai we have a lot of DTP shops who can do it for re 1 per page. That means for 50 pages I need to pay only 1$. so cheap.

that's a really great deal, ravisivan! colored printing here is also cheap, 1 page cost about 3 pesos, not sure of the black n white, though... but sometimes we're printing vouchers we purchase online, normally we want to print it earlier so we have it already in case we need to use it. The problem is that, there are cases that vouchers become invalid as some are claiming it has been used without their knowledge. There are a lot of possibilities on how something important becomes suddenly useless, so we want to be careful on that too. That's one of the reason we need a printer, aside from being so lazy to go to a cafe.

1$ is equivalent to around 42 to 43 pesos. So I guess it's also cheap, right?

Ooh well suddenly got confused
Do you prefer using a refill or buying an orig cartridge replacement? I heard that using a refill may damage the printer head, not sure about it though.
