My Dad doesn't half make us laugh at times!
On a Sunday he always visits his local Working Man's Club down the road from the house. When he comes back he's always got some tale to tell about the goings-on in there..
Apparently, a guy who's 80 actually collapsed in the Club today and "was out cold" according to my Dad. Obviously, there were "rubber necks" wanting to get a closer look and that upset my Dad as this guy needed room to recover without being ogled at.
In the meantime, an ambulance was called. A Paramedic saw to this chap on the floor and asked him if he needed anything. His reply was quite unbelievable under the circumstances.
He said, "Could someone order me burger and chips please?"
Food is served in the Club and, amazingly, the doorman did what he asked and bought him the food and brought it to him.
Miraculously, this same guy who had been laid out cold on the floor just minutes earlier suddenly got up and walked (aided with a stick) towards his food...probably laid out for him on a table within the Club somewhere.
After Dad told us all this (me in fits of laughter) he couldn't help quipping, "He's a Con Artist the silly old sod!"
Haha!
No doubt the guy made a complete recovery once he downed his free burger and chips!
As for my Dad, he really should write a book about this place!

I am glad that your Dad is not so bad ,even if his legs bother him.He can frequently visit the club and brings you a lot of interesting episodes. He is a master that makes a joke,I guess you were all convulsed with laughter after hearing them. The guy in question surely got hypoglycemia,if not nobody can explain this.

My nephew was in the house at the same time and he finds his Grandad funny as well. In fact, he has a great sense of humour too that keeps him going in these trying times.

The sense of humour of your family can certainly be handed down from generation to generation.People who don't know humour don't know life.

Haha! No disrespect to this old gentleman, but if he was just trying to con his way into free burger and chips, then he is really a 'silly old sod'!
And I give it to him to be still clever enough to think of this ruse even at 80 years old.
I just hope I could be that smart when and if I get to that age.

It also saves him a fortune buying it himself, whether it be for his home or a takeaway. I hope I'm that savvy when I'm that age as well but I don't even have the gall to try something on like that now, never mind 40 years or so down the road lol.

OMG that is so funny for an old guy to do. I'm surprised he didn't get in trouble for lying especially with the paramedics being called. In the US if you call an ambulance and you really didn't need one you get a summons or fined. It also depends on how far you take the lie. How many people you get involved who are taking time from their jobs, when they could be helping someone who is in serious danger.

I suppose it's one way of getting a free meal although it's a bit drastic!

It's great that my Dad chats to me as he was always out working when we were growing up. I guess he's making up for lost time..and he always comes back from the Club if there is no-one there. He says he goes in for a pint and a chat and if there is no-one to chat to he comes home again!
At least you have good memories of your grand-father.

Glad you liked it! He told me something from his past as well.
When he was in the Army there were a few guys to each large tent, say about 6 of them. As part of his National Service he was sent to the Camaroon and he loved every minute of it, apart from when he found out his blanket was stolen (it gets very cold at night) so off he went to find who the culprit was.
Sure enough, in the tent next to his he went down the line of piled up uniforms and he said that each pile has so many items in it, so all should be the same height. Anyway, in this particular pile he noticed that it was higher than the rest, the reason being his added blanket made it so! In other words, it had been nicked!
Guess what he did? Took his own blanket back PLUS the other one! When the guy found out he was responsible he had a go at him but Dad stood his ground and told him that it "serves him right for being a thief!"
And no, the guy didn't get his blanket back as Dad wanted to teach him a lesson!

What! I would have hit him over the head with his plate to give a real injury to worry about! Bloody scammer!
