I am a catholic and my friend is a christian. We get along great most of the time. However, she always tries to "convert" me, calling me and the people in my religion, "people who practice idolatry". I, on the other hand, believe that anyone can practice their religion freely as long as they respect others' rights too. How do I tell her to back off with her attacks on my faith?

of what I know christianity refers both to the Catholic, Orthodox. Ok, it must be that she is a orthodox because our religion had good period of time being critical to some other, as i fact, are all together. Finally, the most important thing in the unwritten law is tolerance. Depends how your friend is involved in her religious activities, however, there are quite aggressive words. From old times there were often confusion regarding the Catholic faith as they worship idols because the saints are represented in the form of statues, and the bible explains that it is forbidden in lift statues, ie idols. Because, everything is worshiped statue is considered idol. For this reason in orthodox religion, saints are represented by paintings, called holy icons. In time, the world realized that saints even they are statue-shaped remain, saints, and not representations of bull and snakes, others. So people are praying to saints and not someting else. You should explaine this difference your friend and that if she wants to call catholicism idolatry she should come with some justified arguments, because these words may be offensive to you. And as I said, tolerance is first. If you tolerate her religion, then you deserve the same from them. Also forgiveness would be a good thing, because in her need of piety she can not tell exactly what she say, when she say.

thank you,
that's quite fun to find out,
still that tollerance was not always, it was formed later.
why then idolatry?

Catholic is Christian
Protestant is Christian
Catholic and Protestant are Christian.
So, both of these two religions are same.
If you looked at this premises, what have you got from this point of view.
Just tell your friend, what did she mean by saying your religion is different from her religion. Who we worship? We worship the same Lord, Jesus Christ. It's only located with the way of we worshiping our Lord.

What do you mean practice your religion? When people question your beliefs you should be able to give them answers. If not then you have not done proper study on your own religion. So first of all note down what she has against your religion and then study your religion to find out the truth and then face her with it.

dear rosemary you don't need to defend your faith just bcos someone else is attacking it. your faith will speak for itself. you remember the story of how saul persecuted the church of jesus, who withstood him, God himself. so let your faih speak through you and respond to him in love not defensively and you will be surprise how you will win him or her quickly.
