One of the biggest problems we can encounter with our computer is when it got a virus. I have encountered it for many times.Sometimes, even if I have an installed anti-virus, still a virus gets in my computer.So. my question is what anti-virus works best for your computer? I created this discussion as I am thinking what anti-virus is good to download over the internet.

At the beginning, I used free antivirus for my computer belonging to Norton. But that could not protect my computer from virus attack. So I had to go for a paid one. I started using quick heal. It gave me good results but was comparatively costlier. At present, I use kaspersky Internet Security 2011, it is comparatively cheaper and is giving my computer the necessary protection.

Hi annierose :) I also had the same problem with you before. I researched a lot to know what anti-virus is really good for my laptop. For the paid Anti-virus, I suggest you use Kaspersky. It is the best out there and they also received awards because they are really good. For free Anti-virus, I would suggest Avast Home Edition. Avast is the one I'm using, and so far, I did not have any problems with it. This is the best free Anti-virus. But please be aware that Anti-virus software doesn't detect and eliminate ALL Viruses. So I suggest you also download "MalwareBytes", it is used to detect Trojans, Adwares, and Malwares. I use it once in a while and it's really effective. I feel safe using my laptop when I use these two software. Good luck.

When i first ggot my computer it came with a pre-installed Norton antivirus which worked quite well for some years. After that i changed over to AVG free antivirus which i am using to this day.I have no problems with it and whenever it expires i renew it once again. It has worked well for me and i will continue with it as long as i get good service from it.

I use Karpersky internet anti virus which provide protection for internet , website, chating and pc also.It fast to update and also quite light on the PC and does not conserve to much ram and still work good.It is not free , but reduce the hassle of backup and format pc when struck by virus.I been using it for few years and i really reduce my virus headache.

An antivirus cannot detect all viurses but cannot also use multiple antiviruses at the same time. I personally prefer Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free to use on any Windows OS. I have been using it on Windows 7 Ultimate without problems. But I cannot tell if it is equally good for XP or any other older OSes. But I have noticed that XP is far more prone to viruses because it has been in the market for a long time now and there are millions of viruses created for it. On the other hand newer OSes like Windows 7 are more secured and if you are using XP or any other old OS then I would advice you to get a newer OS.

we have been using Norton and according to me it is the best one. i have tried avast and kaspersky and others, but all of them did not provide complete performance. A cousin gave us a free years subscription which ended last month . so we went to Symantec online and are using the three month trial of Norton 360 which is very good indeed.

Hi annie! I work on the laptop provided by my Company. We get Trend Micro Office Scan over the network and it is highly effective. It is a free download AV. Here's the link: http://www.download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-OfficeScan-Managed-Antivirus/3000-2653_4-10449957.html Then there is the free Avira Anitvirus which many of my colleagues use & highly recommend it. Here's the link: http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus It is also important to first CAREFULLY format the entire hard disk and then install the AV program.

there is no ultimate antivirus. the best thing is having one installed and update regularly. And install better Firewall than windows stock. Especially if you using Windows XP. For working well antivirus, I suggest AVG or Avast which is free For working well firewall, I suggest Comodo which is also free.

HI anne! I have been using AVG anti virus for years and just downloaded the latest AVG free edition of 2012. The latest version will consumed much space than the previous version till it makes me experience the blue screen problem. But if it continue happen I will uninstall and re-install it back. I have tried Norton,Avira, Kapersky and AVG and I would say that all of them are good anti-virus.(^^)

Nowadays Virus seems always a problem for all computer users but with proper knowledge about it and precaution on opening things, which sites not to enter and it is possible to lessen the possibility of getting virus on our computer. i would suggest you could find a Norton antivirus since it is a very good antivirus and it is users friendly and there is no windows that pops up just because of the antivirus.

I don't currently use an AV, since I'm running on Ubuntu. But when I'm runnin' on Windows, my AV would be Avast! They've got some pretty nifty security features such as the Sandboxing. They also got the built-in WebRep to protect you from malicious websites. And they're all FREE! Suuuweeeeet!

The truth is unless you didn't clean your pc before you put any anti-virus, it will just not work effectively and efficiently. You can use any anti-virus that offers free like AVG but make sure that your pc haven't got any virus in it or just format it first and installed anti-virus. Always update your anti-virus and scan (and delete if found some nasty stuff) first any removal devices that you will put on your pc.
