Oh my god. "Are you sure that is 300.00 pesos??" :-o That is my reaction when I went to buy flowers earlier,to bring to our loved ones in cemetery tomorrow.I was so surprised to know that a small bouquet will cause me 300 pesos ( almost $7) and a medium size 450.And i need to buy two bouquets for my grandmother and my brother. I have been buying the same flower every year but this years price leave me so surprised, well not only me actually, but almost all of the buyers who went to buy flowers..But what can we do,we don't have a garden where we can harvest flowers to send to cemetery. :-( I was just thinking, those are just flowers? How much more the foods and the commodities for the coming Christmas season? Are you having this same situation in your place?

Yes. In India also situation is very bad. Inflationary trend is noticed more in the case of food products. Yes. flowers also cost more nowadays. Earlier what we use to get for Rs.10 say a year ago - now it costs Rs. 30 ..Yes.price rise has been nearly 200%. For people in upper strata of society it is ok. Imagine the plight fixed income people. It is really tough to manage with children going to school and extra responsibilities as parent and as in charge of family.

as you remind me, let me tell you a really freak thing. First of all i am from India. In 1990 a Phone call charge was about 8 rupees and a Vada-Pav(a famous indian snack) was just half rupees. but now things has gone opposite phone call is half rupees and Vada-Paav is 8 rupees. that is about 1600% increase in vada paav. this is how much growth observed here.

urghh, that's a lot.. that will surely decrease the consumption of Vada-Paav .. and everyone in you place will miss eating it for sure,8 rupees is too much..It'll be hard to chew that Vada-Paav in that price. :-( Low price of phone calls is reasonable because they are competing with the new technologies now,to be able to market their products they need to lower it,everyone seems to be using internet as means of communication now which is pretty low in price unlike the call charges..

Exactly, just because of more competition in mobile service providers there is much less pricing but what about Vada paav. The demand is always higher and hence the result i told you... Btw, if you don't mind may i know what does pesos mean or where does this word belong to ???? thanks you. -mayur

I think because Paav's a famous snack for Indians, they might be thinking that even if they raise the price you will all still want to buy it. Pesos is the currency here in the Philippines ,its equivalent in dollar is more like 48 pesos per dollar. :-)

Oh yes, this afternoon me and my kids went to the mall. And though we're not going to the cemetery tomorrow,I asked the cost of those flowers displayed outside the mall and was sooo surprised to hear it. The lowest price is 500 pesos,oho...500 pesos I even saw one set costing 3thousand pesos and it's not a big basket huh?

i guess those people who sell flowers are just taking advantage of the season or it can really be flowers are few that's why prices are high.too bad we are experiencing this.

hello tamirs, I also went to the Memorial park yesterday to visit my Dad,my Grand parents, aunts and uncles and yes I was surprised at the prices when we were there, good thing my mother already bought flowers from our place because there is a wholesaler here where we are regular customers so we got it cheaper than if you buy in the cemetery. I think prices also depend on what type of flowers we buy. One thing I do if I may suggest is just to put in my head that the things we buy are for our loved ones so come what may I'm buying it and just accept the fact of inflation that prices would always go up yearly. It's also expensive because besides the flowers, you think of the gas expenses, candles, my kids and my nephews and other relatives buy expensive food in the cemetery and we have dinner in the house after the visit so we need to buy more food that we will feast on, so I just condition my mind that this is just like Christmas , it happens only once a year and besides we all had fun with the children, I just split the expenses with my brother and forget about it, I think memories are more important than expenses on special occasions

One time I saw a wealth program on local T.V., their argument was that inflation would always be with us, not even our government can do anything about it especially if the condition is global,so one solution they gave was increase your income and save to off set inflation but the big question is how? I guess one way is for both of us to continue making quality posts and discussions here, so let's go girl!

Exactly louivill. That's why we need to save more because prices are going higher and higher and I think our government are being blind to see all these..

Oh my! I'd rather buy a candles to offer prayers for my dad and nephews. They said that flowers will drop their price on November 1, might you just wait for a day to get a discount. I experience also the same dilemma during the openings of the school year. I need to buy the big bag for my pre-elem child the price is 1500.00 pesos but I said will be back the next day cause of a short budget. The next day I was so surprise to find out that the bag has just increase of 300.00 pesos total of 1800.00 pesos or $35. But I don't have any choice too, my son need a strong bag for 8 books and 8 big notebooks plus all the stuff he needs in school.

Ah yes it's always like that when there is a special occassion. Christmas, Valentines, All Souls/Saints Day, Mother's Day etc. Remember economics class? It's the law of supply and demand. Better stock up on non-perishable goods such as pasta noodles, sugar, flour, cheese, milk etc for whatever you plan to cook for Christmas otherwise they would be almost double the price or worse there won't be any stock left. Here we have what we call as "Boxing Day". It's on the 26th of December and lots of stores will sell almost all of their stock at a very big discount. It's also the time to return any unwanted gifts or exchange them for something else. It's a good time to get bargains. There's always a huge crowd though so unless you have a 'black belt' in shopping then you'd better stay at home. :)

hello tamirs. people do try to make the most of the season here in our country. ^_^ Not only the flowers, but also the vegetables and meat.! They raise the prices unreasonably that somehow it gives the impression that you don't want to eat them anymore.. The flowers I bought on the other hand was at the same price, only bargained to 260 haha

That is the law of supply and demand. Prices tends to go up when the demand is high. I suggest that you prepare for events in the future. What I do is I buy ahead of time. Since flowers wilts fast I suggest that you buy 3 days prior to the event. Nip its step daily and change the water. Or you can put it on ref to keep it fresh. Right now I am preparing for December. I list all the names of the people that I would like to give gifts. Then I buy gifts for them and keep it in a box. By December, I would not need to go to Department store where there would be lots people shopping at the same time. Good luck.

HI friend, yes flower this time specially in this occasion are very expensive that's why we plant a lot of flower in our small yard so we don't need to buy some flower in every occasion. Where ever you go the price of the flower are the same, and much more in commodities this coming Christmas so be ready not to running out of budget lol.. Have a nice day!

Everything has gotten expensive, price inflation is upto the roof, for household, food consumption and everything else. Prices are ridiculous now a days. I could just imagine this holiday season, with most people out of a job and/or receiving paycuts I don't know how the holiday season this year will be, I hear that most stores aren't expecting the same turn out as last year. So we'll just have to see with all these price increases there will be a bit of cutting in my part.
