I am in the midst of changing my diet habits due to my food intolerance/allergy. I am so not used to not eating what I used to eat regularly. I am so at lost of what I can eat. Not feeling very happy in fact.
I was wondering if there are any other reasons one would change their eating habits, or regular food intakes because of some reasons? Please share your experiences and why or what cause the change? Does it affect you emotionally? how do you deal with it?

Hi ksherrie! I also experienced changing my diet and even lifestyle because of a certain disease. I had GERD or gastro esophageal reflux disease and the doctor advised me that I will not be able to drink caffeinated and carbonated drinks. I was not allowed to eat oily foods anymore. I cannot even drink milk which really made me sad because I super love milk!
There are other foods that I was not allowed to have anymore. I need to watch what I eat from then on and it is really depressing especially when there are lots of delicious foods that are available but I am restricted from. Anyway, the doctor said this is just for about 2 months and then I can go back to eating whatever I want but with moderation. ^_^

Hi girl_thinking,
sorry to hear about your condition! i understand how you are feeling right now. I have to stop eating food that may contain wheat and milk. And MILK! I love milk too. It is in almost of all my daily diet since I was born. I am like, what? no milk!!!!
So what are the food you do and can eat? I hated rice actually, but i can only eat rice, since the food in my country are mainly rice, if not noodles.
At least, after enduring for 2 months, you can eat your favourite foods again. For me, I am still unsure of my condition and how to approach it.

I've had to curb down on my diet, as I've already realized that it isn't so good for me. I used to drink and eat a lot of unhealthy food, but I've changed my habits a bit. Instead of my usual consumption, I've made a conscious effort to always just get half of what I used to get.
I can't say I've become emotional about it, but it has always left me feeling wanting.

NOt for me yet.. I'm still sticking to my usual eating habits even though i have changed unknowingly in the past 5 years. It's not definitely due to health reasons but my habits just changed along with my cravings U will get used to the changes very soon, because what we eat, is merely food to satisfy our cravings, and to keep us full. So long as we have a substitute to it, or food with similar taste, it's good enough :)

It's hard to say if I ever changed my diet. Fact is there are a lot of things I can not eat. I already have allergies etc since my birth so a lot is a big NO.
I am used to it. Sometimes I eat something and I have stronger allergies so I skip that too. I don't miss things that make me sick. Still there is enough I am able to eat. Also there is struff I can eat once in a while or just a small amount of it. This all depends too on how good (or bad) I feel. If it comes to that you get used to that way of living. I know for many people it's shocking but I am used to it. Also I like many kinds of food. I never eat or ate always the same. Perhaps you should open your horizon if it comes to that? It doesn't effect me emotionally the only thing that still effects me emotionally is a suddenly popped up allergy. Which means. swollen face, swollen closed eyes, throat or tongue so swollen that I choke, feeling so itch that I can't stop scratching from one moment to an other and my hands and wrist are painful because of that or from one moment to an other a complete infected skin and I don't know what caused it. (frequently I think nothing did).

Oh my, wakeupkitty, that is so horrible!
Your doctors can't find a cure or the cause?
I understand what you are feeling. Just yesterday, i have swollen lips, swollen itchy rash around my arms and elbows area. Early in the afternoon yesterday, i have rashes, itchy and swollen around my back and my hips.
I haven't actually find out the cause of my rashes. I went for a test the other day and realised, i might have wheat and milk intolerant. So I am cutting down a lot on wheat and milk related foods, hoping the rashes will stop or act up less frequently.
This feeling I have sucks totally. But what to do... I can only bare with it till the rashes stop.

It's kind a sad to know that you developed allergic reaction to some foods you used to take. It is kind a delayed. but then for your health purposes you should have to have a proper list of diet meal. It might your emotional health status if the food/s you like the most contains a components that can trigger your allergic reaction. Because you will feel bad and you will miss eating those foods. Luckily, in my case I was not able to experience those bad things, I could eat every food I like whenever I want. I want to tell you this that you can still those foods you like remembering that it should be a little and in a small pieces only. It is called as desensitization. have a great diet and enjoy your new life.

Hi koneho12,
Thank you for your advice. Will take note. I am trying to change my list. I have already change milk to soya milk. I am still think what is good to replace bread, not that I am still eating bread. I can't find a good replacement.
I stop eating noodles already. So although I am really feeling bad, like you have mentioned, but compared to having the rashes over and over again, I felt so much better. So I will keep my mind focused to keep myself healthy again.

Hey Ksherrie,
My grandparents had to change their diet because they are getting older, hence they are more prone to acquiring illness that involves their gastrointestinal tract and aside from that, they have a blood pressure to maintain.
They have been anxious and wanting to eat greasy and unwanted foods that are dangerous for their health and all they reasoned out was that they just wanted to enjoy the rest of their lives so why be so strict with their diet.

Hi gagagaohlala,
I see what you mean. I understand your grandparents' point of view too. I mean, we stop eating certain things so that we can live longer and fulfil our unfinished businesses.
For your grandparents, i guess they wanted to leave(sorry to say this) without any regrets.
I guess you can tell them, "why? Don't you want to see me(gagagaohlala) get married and have kids?" That is assuming you haven't get married and have kids yet...
There are other ways to persuade them to eat healthily. Good Luck!

Hi! ksherrie, if the change of your diet is due to allergy then i think you have to really change diet. Allergy is not a joke, once you have eaten something that is not acceptable to your body you might have anaphylactic shock and that is fatal. Some allergic reactions are not that serious though, like skin rashes, loose bowel movement and vomiting but some reactions are fatal. When you cannot be able to eat some of your favorite foods, it is because you don't want to get sick. Of course you feel sad at first but you'll soon adjust. There are lots of food you may substitute for the foods you cannot eat and i think those are equally delicious.
I have also cahnged my diet for over a year now. I was diagnosed to have high cholesterol and if i won't change diet i can have heart disease or worst a cardiac arrest. So now, i limit my intake to fruits, vegetables, fish and chicken. Though i am gaining weight, i could say that it is due to slower metabolism because of my age.

Thank you triplejazzm51 for your advice.
Yes, I am sad and disappointed now. No, I think it is not allergy, it might be just food intolerance. I have rashes that are similar to the ones described for hives... Problem though I have not find out what is it that I should stop eating. But i need to change my diet in order to find out the cause for now.
My husband also have high cholestrol. He is trying his best to eat more vegetables and fruits. I am also trying my best to help him too... But he just love to eat KFC. He hasn't started exercising though. My husband's doctor did mentioned that by eating balance meals, especially breakfast, can kick start the metabolism for the day. Another way is more exercises... Do take care!
