There is a phrase saying that "one who keeps reading will remain young". Do you believe in this phrase? i love to read as i had this habit of reading since my childhood and still whenever i am free i read all those books of interest.I do get lot of knowledge reading different kinds of books and i do believe that one will remain young on making reading as a habit

I like reading and the reason why i keep this hobby is that i feel so relaxed when reading. This is like people like to wear beautiful clothes.Reading could increase our inner beauty as well. This is also a necessity for our daily life.So i love this way to help me become better and find a quiet place in this world.Have a nice day.

I do think that for some people it may certainly help keep them young. It may not be the case for everyone, but I can certainly see how this may be the case for some readers. If it doesn't keep you young, then you can certainly help you learn and keep your mind sharp.

well reading does a lot more things than make you feel young. it also helps you feel what it is like to be in a place, based on the description of the writer or author you can or might also feel that you are actually in the place. I like to read because i get to know people this way, i get to know the characters in the stories i read.. its like i know what their plans are, what they are feeling, what their troubles are. similarly if you real feel good books you'd feel young and carefree like that of the one you are reading. =)

LOL.. I read a lot... And yes, I don't look my age.. I am 28, but invariably, strangers put me between 20 to 25... I am not sure if my reading has got anything to do with it... Yes, I am a fanatic reader... I read a lot, most of the time, anywhere and everywhere... :)

I saw an article about this and it said that reading can slow down memory deterioration as we age. It helps to slow down memory loss for older person. I also love reading and it's been my hobby since I was young. When i discovered internet, I tend to read news on the internet rather than newspaper because of my busy schedule.

It probably keeps your mind sharp and your brain active. I used to read a lot when I was a child and people always said I seemed older than my age, now I read less. I doubt that reading has to do anything with the physical appearance though. Since I look much younger than my age, if I don't read for a while and don't know about anything that's new, I look like a time traveler.

Hi Alienstar, I do not think it refers to our looks. It definitely keeps our brains in better condition than those who do not want to read. i cannot survive a day without books too. Even if I am very tired, I will read newspaper or scan the headlines for interesting things to read. It is a habit to bring a book with me whenever I go out.

Reading is indeed a vital tool to keep our mind refreshesd, so we get young when we usually do it... Sound I strongly agree your point about reading. It's nice to know that you are reading books during your free time. I appreciate it for I only read when in vacation. :-)

I guess so because while reading, you keep your mind away from stress and problems. Your mind is working on different shift that's why it keeps you young. Online reading could be great too, exactly what we are doing in mylot. While reading, our brain continously working as we think of something to write for our reaction on the topic.

It's keeps you young depending on what you're reading. If the material is within your level of interests, passion and hobby, then yes, it will keep you young.

Well, the quote is really a good one, very inspiring. You might not remain young physically but will make you young in mind, sharp and healthy and that is the point of the quote. So keep on reading, I am a book worm too ^_^..

I read quite a lot and I think the opposite occurs for me---people always seem to think me older than I actually am. When I was in high school and everybody was reading Sweet Valley High I was reading Stephen King which was weird and so "adult-like" in the opinion of others. I also read a lot of random articles online so in many cases I would know an answer to a certain person's question and I would be asked 'How did you know that?' and my response is always 'I read it somewhere.' In the world today those who read seem to be viewed as smart or mature (at least from my experience) so I guess my love for reading makes me old in the eyes of others, but young at heart and mind because I get to have the enjoyment of going places through a book and I get to keep my mind and memory sharp.

Reading can do allot for you, it keeps your mind sharp and you have to use your imagination so you are having to think more about the book, rather then just watching a movie where it is all on the screen for you. So yes I would say that reading can keep you young.

Reading might not keep you young but it will keep you sharp. Most people who read are better informed, it gives them a chance to obtain the information and then process it and filter it to their needs. I love to write so its important that I read, I only know what I've read or heard so if I try to write something about a subject that I don't know anything about it will show. Reading will keep your mind alert and you'll be able to join into conversations with a lot more information than if you didn't.

I believe that reading, just like any activity that keeps our mind active, can indeed delay the effects of old age. It stimulates our brains, and I've heard somewhere that it may actually help prevent dementia. Also, people who read a lot usually have a very lively (playful) imagination, which I think keeps them young mentally.

Young at heart, yeah maybe a little bit. I have a lot of hobbies so I don't read that much. Mylot is one of my hobbies. I own a lot of books I haven't read yet though. I get a lot of signed books.
