I don't think so. I am not sure if they are happier than poor ones. In most cases, rich people are not happy with their life. They all have fears. They feared to be hold up by the thieves and robbers in the road or being killed because of their money. Some rich people don't have a good family because they don't have to them anymore. Their minds are preoccupied by their business, how to increase their profit but they forgot that the family is also important. They never realized the great importance of God and their family. They made their money their gods. What a sad story! On the other hand, I don't also say that poor people are happier than rich one. They were so worried about they will eat and drink. What they are going to wear, how to send their children to school. I can only say that happiness is only found to those people who have God in their lives and being contented of what they have. If you are not contended, there is a great tendency to covet. What can you say about this guys?

Even the mediocre has a right to happiness and it is not how much one has but what one makes of what one has is the true road to happiness.
This is what Arne Garborg, writer (1851-1924)had to say about money.
“For money you can have everything it is said. No, that is not true. You can buy food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; soft beds, but not sleep; knowledge but not intelligence; glitter, but not comfort; fun, but not pleasure; acquaintances, but not friendship; servants, but not faithfulness; grey hair, but not honor; quiet days, but not peace. The shell of all things you can get for money. But not the kernel. That cannot be had for money. ”

Money is important for our life. How much we need thta depends on our satisfaction. We can try to be rich, but making large money than the necesity makes more problem. that also lead to illegal activities making worse life.

I think rich people are only happy they have money cause it makes their life better cause they have the choice to use it and help others but then again they might be real unhappy cause they will soon find out a lot of people are only after money so they don't have any real freinds that take them for who they are and not how much money they make so I think that poor people are probibly not as happy cause they half to struggle and work hard just to make a buck but atlest they know that their freinds are real and they share their lifes with people that truly care about them money changes people for the worsed cause they can just pay for freinds and not earn them and they turn into jerks and if they ever did become poor they would have nobody to help them

That is one aspect of being rich. ALot more to worry about. I think that in some aspects rich people could be happier and in some not so happy. It depends on the person and the situation. The rich have alot more opportunity and less reason to be sad or unhappy. It is nice to have money and hard not to. I think it depends on the person and way inwhich they live.

Recent studies show that money can contribute to happiness but only up to a point. After that threshold, a lot of other factors influence the general experience of an individual that makes it just slightly similar to the happiness of the norm.
For example, rich people have to contend with personal security problems, complex financial issues, and increasing expectations -- to put this simply, being higher in the income bracket introduces a different set of circumstances/problems/issues that makes you a tad bit not happier than the average individual.

Richier can easily be happier because they can solve problems more easily, in a way that they have more peace and if they can enjoy that and be thankfull, then they will be happy. But the happiness that last and that fullfills the soul in dark times are the happiness that comes from the heart, of a good soul, of a warm hearted person, one that has compassion.

I guess I should be honest to you.It is not right to say that all rich people make their money their god.By saying that you are being biased. Not all rich people are bad. Many rich people became rich because of their perseverance and hardwork. Many of them wanted to be rich to help their family and other people.
I don't think poor people are absolutely happy.I mean even though many poor family are united and have strong faith to each other, they worry too much about what they will eat and about their future, etc. Many poor families also break because of financial problems.
I don't think poor people are happier than rich people.

How many rich people and poor people do you know?
I have friends that are rich, not so rich, kind of poor, and dirt poor.
Guess what, whether they are generally happy or not has NOTHING to do with how much they make.

This question really is subjective and depends on the people. You've said it. I've seen countless number of poor people crying on TV while saying how they cannot afford to eat meals three times a day or get immediate medical help when needed. Many times these circumstances make them not just sad but bitter as well.
On the other hand rich people do not have problems with money, yes, and it's a good thing, but what I am more concerned about is their sensitivity to what the poor are experiencing, because as they drown themselves in eating, partying, travelling, they tend to forget about the fact that there are millions of other people in the world starving. I think it's our responsibility to be concerned and help those in need.
The unhappiness comes in when you feel like you have everything and yet you still feel lonely at the end of the day.

I think happiness and any other emotion is a self decision, it is not about being rich or poor. Poor can be happy in his own world and also a a rich can be sad in his world.
According to Robert T Kiosaky one must not work for money but money should work for you.
If a rich person is working for money then it is greed and he will not get satisfied. Earning money is an art and one must enjoy it for being happy.

I think that money has its advantage. Being poor has so many consequences. There are the disadvantages of Living: homes, food, clothing, health, environment... Some live in homes with harmful mold, infestations. Lack of nutrition, because we know that the unhealthy food is inexpensive and convenient. When I was young my mother would'nt do laundery and I only had two pairs of pants and old shirts, so no great social life. Sometimes the lack of money does cause unclean living conditions, and health problems follow. Without things like medicaid and welfare things could be even worse. And who really chooses the ghetto or slums to live in. "OOh! seems like a dangerous neighborhood, I want to live here" NO. Those who are rich and still unhappy, they just lost site of living. Family and friends, pets, hobbies, recreation, helping, supporting a passion and good cause, still striving to achieve goals. Having money is'nt enough to be successful. Because that would result in being a balanced happy person.

Hello bessyjanmayi,
In my opinion money is not the only factor which makes someone happy or sad. There are many other things besides money which are the reasons to feel happy in anyone's life like good family, freinds, relationships and above all satisfaction of what we have.
Of course there are rich people who are not happy because of these other things as they forget the importance of these in the process of making more money but there are few others who are rich and understand the importance of other things too and remain happy in their lives. As far as poors are concerned yes they are not happier than rich because they remain sad most of the time in thinking of gathering basic needs.

Being rich or poor have advantages and disadvantages. In here we can not say that a person is happier when he is rich than when he is poor. It depends on the attitude of the person, rich or poor. If they are contented of what they are then it will make them happy persons. Normally, a person is not contented of what he has. So even if he has already lots of money, he will try to acquire more. The poor ones have no time to be happy because their time is used looking for money for their subsistence. Maybe we can find happy people in the middle class, not from the poor and rich.

I do feel that you generalise because that's the way you want them to feel.
There are good rich people as well as bad. There are happy rich people as well as sad.
Looks as though it could be the beginning of a song, but to follow the trend there is good and bad in everyone.
Being rich does not in itself make you happy, what you do with your money can make you happy.
It would be nice to have enough money to get by without being too greedy and if you look at what people like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are doing with their cash then that has to be good no matter how they accumulated the cash in the first place.
