A week of firsts! I had many. Did you have any?

My first day in which the children did what I said when I said when subbing. Wonderful. My first day of not wearing a bandana or scarf because my hair has finally filled in enough. Kind of scary, but also a relief. My first time trying out a used Mustang and a used Lincoln at a car dealership. Different. My first time cutting up soda carton carriers and using parts to recycle. Made me happy.
Lots of firsts this past week. Have you had any "firsts" this past week, month, or even year? Some firsts are wonderful. Some are nice. Some are a relief. Some are fun. Some are sad. Some are scary. So if you've had a first, what kind of first was it for you?

I not only have a first, but also an only...
I have been occasionally dog sitting for this one neighbor for almost a year now. She has this mutt that can pass for Benji whose name is suki and she has a papillon, named Zori. Both were shelter dogs and so we don't know the background, but obviously Zori has either been hit by a car or was abused, because her front right leg is bent pretty bad.
I suspect Zori was abused, because when I met her, she never responded to positive feedback and she never was one to cuddle with anyone.
About a month or so ago, I started going over there at least once a week, or more if the neighbor needs me, to let the dogs out. The last couple days I have been going on more because my neighbor is out of town. Her teenage daughter is staying with neighbors, but I let the dogs out except in the evening and only in the mornings this weekend.
During this time, I have noticed that Zori seems happier and even wags her tail when I praise her, but the one thing that she doesn't even do with her owners is, when I was sitting down, she jumped up into my lap and snuggled..It wasn't for long, maybe just seconds, because she is a hyper breed in the first place, but that was awesome and a breakthrough for this dog..

How wonderful for you and Zori. It makes me sad to hear of abused dogs, but it makes me happy when they get a wonderful home and caretakers. Kudos to all of you. Thanks and take care.

I know, and I hate to say it, but since I started caring for this dog, at first she would pee or poo on the floor, but now she doesn't, at least when I am there, she still does when the owner is. I think the owner either doesn't know how or is afraid to discipline the dog. Discipline as in being patient because she needs special training due to her previous condition, but a balance of letting the dog know that 1, she is not in charge and 2. She is loved. I did get on her, not real bad, but enough to let her know that going on the floor is not acceptable. But I also give her a lot of praise and I think that is why she is responding to me.

Yes, one extreme or the other isn't good. Kids and animals need firm, fair, and consistant.

True, I could put the artist's palate kind of thing on one of the square or rectangle ones. Thanks and take care.

So far I've just cut them apart. But I saw online where people took paper and made notebooks using them as covers. I have lots of bent paper that won't go through my printer, half used sheets of paper that I can cut and use the unused part, and if I get really ambitious, I have paper that can be soaked and I can follow directions for making paper and even use milkweed fluff or other things in it. So different parts can make different sized notebook covers. I'll have to poke holes in them and the paper. I have hole punches for paper, but not for cardboard. I can use jute or kite string I got at the dollar store to hold it altogether.
Polar seltzer and Adirondack seltzer have great pictures of lemons, limes, etc. The Adirondack one has a picture made in the shape of an artist's palate with beautiful mountains in it. So I could even get fancier if I wanted to with that, but I think the funny shaped cutting would get on my nerves. I have a mini version of a school paper cutter with an arm that you pull down so I think I will stick with square and rectangular cuts.

I now have a child who doesn't have an IEP at school it's nice, well tell they start insisting she's LD which scares me. I'm making up my first unique crocheted hat pattern. First time trying this new hair dye I got a free coupon for and I think I like it, just need some highlights.

Some of the firsts I had happen were astounding. The first time I had to say no to my grandson when he wanted to use my PC. First time I didn't turn into the fast food restaurant when I went running errands last week. First time it took my grandson, daughter and I less than an hour to do grocery shopping.

3 of you, less than an hour to go shopping? That's pretty impressive.

Yep. We got in and out in less than sixty minutes. Pays to have a grocery list and helpful kids.

You're so vague, it makes discussion difficult to continue. Please read the others around you so you can see the kinds of things others respond. Especially the people with 8 and higher in their stars. Consider this a learning opportunity. Take care.

Yay! You're hair's coming back in more! I can totally relate to hair loss from chemo and all. Do you notice any difference in your hair? Mine was thin and body-less before, but it came back thicker, and is now darker than it ever was. That is a great 'first' for you:-))
My big 'first' for this year (this month actually) was that I am now officially 'retired' and got my first retirement check. It may not be a fortune lol, but it is to me. And for the first time in 8 years I treated myself to an inexpensive dinner out. Another first is that I'm now using a walker here and there. Not a great first, but a necessary one none-the-less. Sometimes our 'firsts' are a surprise, but we learn to adjust:-) I don't think I've had many first-times this year, but I'm hoping I'm not too old to have many more happy ones!

Mine came in wavy and different thicknesses throughout. Unmanagable in some places. Everyone had said it would be curly. Some places it's frizzy.
Good for you on the retirement check! 1 year and 3 1/2 more months for me!
Have you ever read, Strong Women Stay Young? It's a great book. This female Dr. went into a nursing home and did all kinds of stuff with people and they were able to walk independently longer. Hope you're able to do lots of wonderful things and that lots of wonderful firsts like the inexpensive dinner will be coming your way. Take care.
