I was hanging my Christmas lights outdoors today. The lights around the garage went ;up without a hitch at all. Now for my stars which are along my driveway; I have to put stakes in the ground for support. Well as I was pounding the stakes into the ground I hit my hand with the sledgehammer fairly hard. OWWW! This photo shows my cut etc on my hand. The bruise does not show up really good in the photo. But it is a green, yellow, purple, and brown bruise. It feels like I may have actually bruised the bone. It's pretty swollen right now also. I am soaking it soon to ease pain and swelling. So please, do not let me use any power tools anytime soon. HAHAHA! Have you ever hurt yourself hangimng your holiday decorations?

The hammer bounced up hard from hitting, then wood then the wood stung my hand, so I dropped it, then the hammer's rebound hit my hand.
All this in a milleseconds time.

Ouch is right, that looks painful..Then again, I have a low tolerance of pain, so it doesn't take much to make me shiver..
Since I don't hang decorations the last time I got hurt was when I was breaking sticks by hand to put into the fire ring outside and a piece of wood jammed up under my nail...Makes me cringe just thinking about it..

Oww Hatley.
I've had lead from a pencil jammed into a
fingernail before and that's not a fun feeling.

OUCH!!!! all this talk is making my shiver...So I should talk about the time a heavy syrup bottle fell on my big toe, and I know it broke, but I also knew there is nothing that can be done for a broken toe, so I taped it up so well, I can't remember which toe I broke..Anyway, since my toe was broken, after about 4-5 months, the nail started falling off, talk about ewwwwwwwww.......

ouch ouch you make me hurt just thinking about it.lol toenails and fingernails injuries are the worst. I years back as a nurses aid
jabbed the tip of a sharpened yellow pencil into my finger for years I had the remnants of that showing black under the skin although I had pulled the big piece out oh my how that did hear and I was at work as a nurses aide too. I got free medical treatment fromn the nearest passing doctor who did all very sterile and pulled out the broken tip with his forceps. needless to say that hand was sore for s everal days and doing aide work you use your hands all the time. lol.

My injuries, not the serious one, but the cuts and bruises are mostly job related. It didn't hurt that seriously, but it might last a few days to heal up the wounds. I used power tools most of the time at work, so I can't avoid it. Anyway, next when you do your house decorations, do it slowly and follow all the safety procedure. No need to hurry.

When I was a machinist I had my share of injuries.
Steel shavings in my eye once.
And the tip of a finger chopped off.

That looks like it hurts!
No, not hanging christmas stuff, but I was pulling stuff inside to wash it in September, I think, stepped wrong on the sidewalk and went down hard.
the stuff was outside because it had been in the shed and I wanted to wash it before I decided what to do with it.

Ouch! That looks like it hurts quite a bit.
I don't recall ever hurting myself hanging holiday decorations, but I don't normally do much decorating other than the Christmas tree. I put up lights a few times when I lived other places, but I have never decorated the outside since living here other than the pine tree outside.

We gave up hanging holiday decorations on the house after the first year we tried it. The clips that held the lights kept breaking and of course the cost on the power bill. So instead we just put lights on the interiors of the windows and the tree in the front window.
I hope the swelling goes down for you and it feels decently in a day or two. When you hit yourself your really did a good job! OUCH!

I bought cheap clips before and they either fell off the eave or broke.
So Now I buy good quality ones which cost more but they work a lot better.

My garage has it's own circuit box so I run an extension cord and use that
plug for my outdoor lights. But I do want an exterior outlet someday soon.

I suppose that makes a difference. And we keep hoping that when we get our electrical upgrade that we can get an outlet put outside so that will help as well.

Well that does look like a nasty bruise. What you should do is make permanent holes for the rods to sit it, this way there will be no more hammering. I know how all that feels, I have hurt myself many times doing things like that. Go soak it and get some rest. Use ice for the swelling.

The stakes, poles or whatever I use go into the
grass area so no permanent holes can be dug etc.
Thanks, theee hurt is going away now and swelling down as well.

I dropped a gallon can of paint on my foot one holiday season and broke the next to little toe.oh my did that hurt. went to er had it exrayed and the doctor splinted it with tongue blades to the toe next to it. that made the six weeks of holiday season very different for me wearing one shoe and one bedroom slipper.lol but we had fun anyway.yes you stay away from power tools for awhile there G randpa 'bob., the hand you save may be your own. lol lol

Hi GrandPaBob, wow that look painful. Be more careful next time. And you mentioned a sledgehammer, that sounds very painful. I can see you have started putting up your Christmas decorations, well good. I am not going to do anything until after Thanksgiving and then it will be very minimum. I hope by now that you have started soaking it for the pain and swelling. And yes I too hurt myself a lot trying to use things that I am not authorized to use. Have a blessed day myfriend.

I usually have all my lights up by Halloween.
But as I had new windows being installed I held off as that would have been a hassle for the contractors as my lights line the edge of the yard usually.

Owww.That sounds painful.I have never hurt myself yet while decorating for christmas, but I have hurt myself while playing when I was younger.
This is how it happened.I took the hammer of my dad to play with it.I used it to pound the soil. There is no sense by doing that, but I liked doing it as a kid.lol.I was pounding the soil, but I accidentally hit my finger with the hammer. It was very painful, and after some minutes he nail of the finger that was struck started to turn black.I cried for a long time.lol.But luckily my nail is now fine.
