Just purchase a VGA 15 pin cable for $5 off ebay or Amazon and just hook it up to the side of your laptop and the other end into the back of Most standard laptops. The settings will pop up most likely asking you to adjust screen resolution,And then you can purchase a cheap usb powered keyboard and mouse, and BINGO! Enjoy your new desktop lol

That sounds like a good idea, but the over heating comments above are what concerns me and wouldn't want to try it for that reason. I wish you the best of luck with yours and hopefully it own't over heat and cause you any big problems, even fire. I hope no one else tries it and over works their lappy. Be careful everyone!

I'm not a big fan of such things. While you for sure can and it will work great, if I buy a laptop I would make heavy use of its mobility advantage over a desktop. Regardless of that, notebooks are more expensive for just turning into a desktop. A significant problem is overheating. Laptops have a serious problem with heat, particularly the newest ones, as they don't have the proper air flow and has all their components on tiny spaces with improper refrigeration often. Take care of that. I would only do that if that's temporary, for example to see a movie in a bigger screen or to perform some lengthy installation of something, then pack it and carry to somewhere else.

Ha ha, I do the same, but for extended screen. So I have my laptop running, and the computer screen, and have one thing open on one and another on the other. So for example, Microsoft word on one screen doing work, while having notes on the other screen for reference, or even a browser when research. However, I try not to abuse my laptop too much, laptops do heat up faster than your normal CPU, due to air flow etc. I also heard, laptop video cards should not last long when attaching extra computer screens as it will add stress to it. But I am not 100% on this.

i think it doesn't mean you turn your laptop into desktop computer. When you use desktop computer for a long time without a rest, it will be no problem. But, when you use laptop like that, it is a big problem. And, with desktop computer, you can changed the part or hardware easily. But, you can not do it with laptop.
