Do you think schools should focus more on human relations instead of irrelevant subjects? Whether you come from the best schools or some unknown schools in a remote area, when you graduate and put to use what you have learned, get a job in your field, it still does not equip you with the qualifications needed in workplace. Technically you might be great but one thing i've learned it is a much more desirable trait to have great people skills than technical skills. Talent and brains can secure you that job but the ability to deal with people can give you limitless possibilities in a workplace. Most companies even prefer highly personable people to talented ones. As skills can be acquired but personalities are hard to change. We see seminars and conferences attended by many professionals about acquiring that self confidence and people skills. These are people with high high calibre qualifications. We hear success stories about drop outs making billions. So don't you think these topics should be emphasized in schools?

What sort fo school will teach irrelevant subjects, may be only those religious school in backward country do that. Of course there are some school in certain countries that don't care about teaching and imparting to the students with the necessary knowledge and skill to succeed in work places except to indoctrinate them with some extreme philosophy and doctrine for political reason. These type of schools are indeed quite popular in some developing countries in middle east and east asia that education had became a political and religion tools on brain washing as a form of mind indoctrination program by certain government. Acquire skill and knowledge had became a secondary consideration for these type of schools and countries as most of these graduates are guaranteed government sector employment and there is no need for human relationship skill or any scientific knowledge at all when the graduates are put to work after get out of colleges and universities.

Good point. I agree with those schools, I came from one too. And I can vouch we had subjects that looking back were unnecessary. But my point is no matter you're from developing or advanced countries the same situation still happens. Schools can include more training or subjects in people relations. These can also help people struggling with family issues and life in general. After all we can't live alone.

I can personally say that some things I've learned in school are outdated. Most are based in theories wherein students are having a hard time appreciating. It seems that the 2 year courses in some schools are better compared to the traditional 4+ year courses because they are more extensive in actual applications. The problem here though is that the business sector, the parents as well as the students still prefer the traditional approach for they already got used to it and they truly believe that this is the only method acceptable. If I had my way then, I might have chosen the non-traditional but real-life approach :)

for me, some schools nowadays are outdated because they fail to see the current needs or current qualifications of most companies..it's true on what you said about personalities..but i think technical skills, together with good personality are mostly preferred by companies..most schools concentrates more in theories, and not giving much exposure and importance in skills..most people who knows that they are equipped with the right skills, confidence follows..personality of each person develops while you interact with different people in different situations..it can't be taught anywhere..because we develop our own personalities..many are attending seminars about people skills, how they should do this, do that; interact with people..but it still depends on those people how they'll develop it..they are just getting advises from people who are more experienced than them..because they know that they still haven't developed their personal skills..
