Do guys fall for a damsel in distress?

Guys say they are attracted to an independent woman, that may hold some sense of truth at first. But, later on they end up falling for the damsel in the distress. Why? Is there something attractive about a woman constantly needing help from a guy? Doesn't it soon become sort of smothering or annoying dealing with the same kind of person? Not that I'm attacking a damsel in distress, I just want to understand.

I believe like to feel needed, thus being attracted to the damsel in distress. I believe men feel stronger when they have a woman who depends on them, rather than one who can make it on her own if need be.

I think it is exactly what the first responder said, they want to feel needed sometimes and if the woman is super secure and can handle everything themselves maybe they feel they aren't needed...Or maybe they feel like they should be the ones taking care of the woman and maybe most men say they want their woman to be independent but a lot of them really want the woman to rely and lean on them...At least from my experiences.

Perhaps, guys just like being needed. If one doesn't feel needed, doesn't one go where they are??
