Today while me and my wife were discussing a medical issue.. as we were not aware of that topic much we decided to google it.. after searching about that medical term and disease, we found some sites.. most of them are with either wrong information or improper information. one site she bookmarked by thinking it was good one.. when I opened that site.. it was just a product advertisement. to sell that product they gave wrong information.. though they have give disclaimer that "we may encourage you to buy our sponsor's product and purpose of this site to make more business so please reconfirm all details whatever you read here" I thought for a while surf more sites with medical topics.. answer is same.. Other than Computer and Technical articles, mostly sites are made to make only money.. which lead people on the wrong track.

I agree. That is why, when doing researches, we should not be dependent on Internet alone. Books are still the best source of information. Though most nowadays prefer to use the Internet due to its availability. As far as I know, most of those medical sites are rewritten by non-medical practitioners to get more backlinks and to promote their sites. I was one of those non-medical practitioneers. I came across this employer who wants me to rewrite a medical related article and translate it on my own words. Because I'm not knowledgeable enough on most of the topics, I don't think that I made an informative article.

To get correct medical information, try visiting the website of your local or national health department. For sure, you'll never go wrong in there :)

yes but local sites don't update their sites and as we can get information about technical questions, we don't in non technical.

yes, as there are less censoring authorities on the internet, unlike books, magazines news article (even though some are considered fake or malicious) they somewhat goes on a editing/proof reading regiment before it would reach readers.

If it was selling site, they must have to keep their company in a pedestal. I mean they have to take care of their business by supplying correct information online. Gaining costumers means gaining their trust first. Anyway, the good thing there was you immediately noticed the mistake.

Yes, i agree. Whatever information found on the internet, cannot be trusted completely. There might be some truth in them, but more than often, there are more of fake ones around. In the past, it used to be a useful resource for informations, but with the trend of online earnings, many are providing information for the monetary gains, instead of the need to genuinely share. What makes it worse are those article sites, because they are paying for members to submit them, and do site moderators even do a check to see if those information are real? I don't think so.

You get a lot of this "Infomercial" stuff on TV,so it's only logical that it's been brought online..you just need to be careful and selective about the sources, and try and check the info is unbiased without an agenda of trying to sell you something that's only going to boost a company's sales figures, not be of any use or help to someone with a condition..

I totally agree about that. Actually, many sites' information just provide by people personally and did not be veirfied.

Internet is also a source of a wrong information because some sites that provide information also make its user to have the power to edit the information about it. And also anyone can own their own website or blog which then they post information whether its a fact or opinion they just publish those articles and less of this site owners research about the topic before posting the article. The internet also spread wrong news about things and lots of people will believe from it. Lets just be cautious and smart on determining if those information's are true to avoid confusions. =)

hello lovedude! that is definitely true and we should not solely rely on the internet sources we have. nothing beats the books that has gone through series of revisions and checking before it is published. our teachers discourage us to use the internet though it is the easiest and hassle free way that we can obtain answers. it is because the internet sources are revised easily. so the safest really is to still check on books if we are in search for good and credible answers.

You're right. Anyone could build a webpage, and the person is free to write anything he/she likes, including wrong information about health. That is why it is up to us to decide whether the information we find in the Internet is true. Check the URL, most often, if it ends with ".org" or ".edu," the site is reliable. These sites are nonprofit and sharing information is their primary goal. There are however, a few health websites with a .com ending that are still quite reliable such as webmd and mayoclinic. And although wikipedia is an org site, I would still skip it in my health research.

i agree to that..there are many sites which only concentrates with the money they'll gain..they don't take seriously if what they published on their sites are true or mislead the readers..there sites which are not reliable to some information.. internet is abused nowadays..

You are right, not all sites on the web are reliable some are just in fact spammer site. you should be very careful in checking medical advises on the internet. I advise wikipedia and medscape. I could assure you this sites are worth to visit.

Look for website medical only and dont look for business website because they want only to sell their product to earn revenue even though they dont know the best info about medicine they are telling people that the their product is effective.
