I'm wondering, just how much ***DO*** people drink anyway? :-o

I subscribed to Dr Oz's daily newsletter through Arcmax. As usual, I enjoy all of his newsletter, it's down-to-earth in its writing style, and easy to understand with helpful information. Sometimes he would talk about diabetes, which is a concern for me (strong family history) and one thing he stressed was to drink lightly (men 2 drinks a day at the most and women 1 drink a day at the most). Now I'm not much of a drinker, and when I do, I'll sip and savour a drink for the taste and experience. (it's a luxury treat for me) I don't get drunk, and I only drink once or twice every few months.
Anyway, this isn't the only time Dr Oz mentions this, he's said it in other newsletters as well. I know that there's alcoholics around but I'm sure they make up a tiny fraction of our population, and I'm sure people with substance addictions wouldn't be reading doctors' newsletters! Maybe it's because I don't hang around with party people either...but on average.....well....*blush*...ya, stupid question....how much ***DO*** normal/average/whatever people drink anyway? I'm actually curious now. My husband and his parents are pure tee-totalers, and I know his church don't condone drinking. But I'm talking about regular people, society as a whole.
