Some people don't mind flying long haul in one go but on my longest trips I have done some stopovers. That is one way to see a few different countries on one trip. Europe is a continent where is it is very easy to visit a number of different countries. I got a cheap flight to Trieste in Italy so I could go to Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. It is lovely to travel around Europe by train I think.
Do you mind long haul flights?
So would you prefer to fly all the way in one go or do some stopovers?
Would you like to visit one country and pop over to the next door country too?
If so which countries?

For many years, I did not travel. I began traveling again two years ago. It is all new to me. I am re-learning how to travel.
I am flying and I enjoy short flights. I do not think that I am ready for a long flight.
I have been fortunate that I have been able to get non stops thus far but I will be going to Boston next June for my 50th high school reunion. I am taking Amtrak to Boston and will fly back. I have been dismayed to find that there is no non stops between Boston and Austin, Texas. Furthermore, it looks like I will even have to change planes. I flew between Austin and Boston years back and I was able to get a non stop years ago. This has come as a terrible shock.
I went to Europe once in the 1960's. i took a chartered flight between Los Angeles and Frankfurt. I believe that we had to stop for refueling in Iceland. I had a EurailPass and took trains over some of the continent. I went to Holland, Italy, Austria, Germany and France.
If I could get back to Europe, I would fly to one city in one country. Then I would take trains, buses and ferries around until I had to fly back. I do not know what city I would fly to. it would depend on the best deal.
One of the great things about Europe is traveling by train. Do they still offer anything like EurailPass?

Hi Boston Phil. Yes, they do still sell Eurail Passes for people that come from outside Europe. I got an Inter Rail Pass when I was 18 years old because I come from the United Kingdom. Western Europe has pricey train tickets but once in Eastern Europe I find the train fares much cheaper.
I think that it is excellent that you are re-learning how to travel and going on short flights is a superb idea. I hope that you will really enjoy your reunion. Yes, planes can stop in order to refuel like you found in Iceland on the way to Frankfurt.
It is a terrible shock when the flight routes change and what was possible in the past is no longer so. When I was in the USA I liked traveling on Amtrak. Thanks for your excellent response.

When I travel to Asia, which is not too many times, I prefer the long haul flights. Although connecting flights would be sometimes a few hundred dollars cheaper, I still prefer the one way flight. I especially like it when leaving north America late at night, and arrive there early in the morning. It's just like sleeping through a 14 to 16 hour night.

For me it depends on where I go and how much time I have to travel. If it's less time I need to travel faster and a stop over is not possible if my end destination is not close.
Traveling by train I did in East Europe, it's a great experience but I don't know if I would do that easily again since flying is so much cheaper as the train is my budget is not endless.

Hello Wake Up Kitty. When I traveled to Western Australia I stopped off in Hong Kong on the way out for a few days and Singapore on the way back for a few days. It broke down the long haul journey very nicely.
Once there I find train travel in Eastern Europe cheap. I got a flight to Prague and then bought train tickets around the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland for one of my trips.
I know what you mean about having a very limited budget and know budget airlines can be very cheap to fly on.

I haven't try to travel outside our country but still hoping to do it in the future.I think stop over is quite interesting and enjoyable cause you can see different places while in traveling. You can explore and see some places even for awhile.

Dear Maximax8,
Traveling / Flying long haul is very tiring and jet lag especially
traveling across different time zone. I too prefer to have stop overs
or transit and have a short breaks to visit the transit countries.
Europe will be a great places to visit and explore. Truly agree with
you :)

I think maybe i would fly for a long haul and then have a good stay at that country, and then i would choose to go stopovers. The countries in europe are just so convenient and i love to choose go by train. It's such an amazing experience to see such beautiful scenes.Honestly,i'd like to be the person like you as backpacker to go anywhere i want. But since now i need money.
