Okay so now I am done with school I really want to focus on trying to save some money and maybe even earn a bit on mylot. I was wondering how many of you are successful with extreme couponing or just couponing in general? If you are successful do you have a certain site or two that you could recommend for coupons? Remember I am a starter and will take any tips, hints, or advice you have to offer. Thanks everyone!

I am a cashier. It seems like it's extremely hard to coupon. You have to be sure you'd use the products and settle for changing brands, trying new things etc, just to save a little bit. So it's hard to find coupons, getting easier but then again not. The coupons have to be able to work too. You can only have THREE per like item, atleast at my store and most likely everywhere. The best bet is to start off by working with sales at stores and their coupon days. We double every day up to 99 cents limit of 20, but we have super doubles (just about to end for our store) which is up to $1.97 the coupon doubles. OR Triples which is up to $1.00 and it triples. Rainchecks are your friend, if the store doesn't have it, get a raincheck for as MANY as you can.

There is an Extreme Coupon show and I'm ALWAYS amazed when I see women go to the store and buy $1,000 worth of groceries but only pay like $12 bucks!!!! However, they have to do about 10 different transactions and usually have 20 of the same item. In their homes, they have "stockpiles"/ huge supplies stored for future use such as 40 bottles of ketchup or 30 cases of water. One women garage looked like a mini grocery store. I guess this is a big thrill for some women. I'm an excellent shopper at finding great clearance deals but sadly, I have never been able to use coupons successfully which saved me tons of money.

Is there a point where it stops being a couponing hobby and starts being hoarding instead?

I am just getting started myself, but I have found a few tips. I use Coupons.com, also most of the best deals still come from the Sunday paper=get two. Also, some coupons can't be used together-so go to the store when its not busy & ask the cashier to do two transactions. I;ve never been turned down. Also, you can go to the website of one of the items you buy everytime you shop and they will either have coupons on their page or ask them to mail you some. This has worked for me, too! Finally, go to a store that doubles coupons!!!! Hope this has helped you! Happy couponing!

we cant do extreme couponing like those in the US but i do sometimes use coupons. my mom and my mil give me the papers with the coupons in them and i do use them when its a good deal. however, i often find the store brand is cheaper than the couponed brand name item, even with the cents off coupons. (sadly, our stores dont offer loyalty or double coupon days. i bet more people would be loyal to one store if they did.)

You are probably right about the loyalty. I also buy store brands often. There are a few things that I cannot find a store brand that I am all that happy with. I also tend to use groceries that are cheaper such as Save-A-Lot or Aldi.

I try to coupon but fail more than succeed at that. I am better off just being educated about my local stores and knowing which ones have the better deals on which products. Here are some reasons couponing doesn't work for me (and many others): - Hard to find ones that are for the products you use. Especially with picky families - Online coupon sites pretty much provide all the same coupons. The exceptions are sometimes ones direct from a manufacturer's site might not be found elsewhere. But coupons.com, couponsuzy.com etc etc are all the same coupons. The best thing to do is find the site that offers you the best payback. Sites such as MyPoints.com and QuickRewards.net offer some payback (like points or cents) with each coupon you use - Forgetfulness. Often I forget I have a coupon for something so it never gets used. I like stores that have a store card which automatically give you sales discounts when swiped. Easier to remember to swipe a card every time you checkout than to hold on and remember a coupon for a specific product. The thing I've noticed about extreme couponers is that they often have tons of shelves filled with extra products that they purchased with coupons. Many of us don't have that storage space (especially those of us without garages.) As well, are you really saving that much if you have to buy multiples of a product to use the coupon? If you stock up as much as some of these people do, you can't possibly use it all before the expiration dates. As well, many of them buy stuff they wouldn't buy normally simply because they have a coupon. Well this isn't worth it for a family that's picky because it ends up as garbage and a waste of money.

Thank you for all the help. I know a lady from my job buys things she doesnt necessarily need with coupons because she gets money back to save on other items. I think there is a real art to it. I do not know that I have the time or patience to figure it out either.

I'm not an extreme couponer--not even close-- but on a good shopping trip I can save $15-$20, which is pretty good for me. I shop at a store with a loyalty card and there are websites like Shortcuts that will load digital coupons onto my loyalty card. Also, I check the store website for any coupons. I also find a few coupons for things I like and use on Upromise. The key is to find coupons for products you actually use and keep an eye out for deals at the store you shop at. Unlike the shoppers on television, I don't go to extremes because at some point I believe that buying products in the large quantities like that is wasteful if no one is going to get around to actually using them at any point in the near future. But good luck!

Smartsource.com has some good coupons. Buy-one-get-one-free means that each item is basically half-priced so you can buy one for half-price. Use coupons on items that are already on sale, and you'll save a lot.

I do a lot of coupon clipping myself but i would not say that it was extreme. i have a couple of neighbors though who have decided that they want to be extreme couponers. A lot of time and effort would go into such an undertaking. i wish all couponers success in their endeavors!
