I don't know why headache strikes when I have menstruation, it often strikes when I'm almost done with it. I really don't know why. I don't feel sick with dysmennorhea but I do suffer with headache to the extent that when I get home from work, I go straight to the bedroom and sleep. Anyone knows remedy on this aside from medicines that I'm afraid of taking?

I also get the headache in my period time, but I get it at the first days of the period. What makes it strange to u is that u get it at the end of the period time. I mean, I agree with the change in hormone, or the lost blood too much. But if u're almost done then it can't be the hormone or blood issue. I think u should keep drinking a lot of water during ur period time and even more when u're almost done. I hope it helps.

It could be that headache before (yours) is related to the changing hormones, and that during or after (hers) is related to blood loss either because of dehydration (not drinking enough water) or anemia (not eating enough iron-rich foods). There are many, many reasons, but these are the most common causes of headaches associated with a menstrual cycle.

Hello gaea23, I used to have this problem too, I used to ger three day headaches every month until someone told me to take ampple cider vinegar in water or honey every morning, I used to mix just a little apple cider vinegar in a shot glass with water in it and while I did this I never had headaches and this also worked for my sister as well....apple cider vinegar is a blood thinner and it is good for many things....

I don't have headache, but apple cider vinegar is a good thing, and I found that it works for cramps too. I think it's worth a try, I understand that you try to avoid medicine if possible.

hello, Actually, I am not suffering to headache every time that I have menstruation. I think you better consult your problem to the doctor to prescribe you something since you experiencing it for a long time. maybe the doctor will give you a medicine that is not bad to you at all. alright? good luck

Two things that will likely help, and can't hurt, come to mind. Drink more water. Most people don't drink enough water, and women who bleed heavily during menstruation need even more water than average. Also, increase the amount of iron in your diet. Eat foods that are rich in iron like eggs, spinach, prunes, liver, beans, etc. Red meats also have a lot of iron in them, but is not the healthiest thing to eat a lot of. These diet changes are not only healthy, but help ease the two main times of headaches. If the headaches continue after trying these diet adjustments, go see your doctor to see if they can figure out a cause or have any suggestions. Good luck! :)
