In my first few days here in mylot I started a couple of discussions about sports specifically baseball and after a few days I am surprised at the number of responses!! The first one have 1 response and the other one didn't get any response at all. as in Zero really? Wow! and from then on I always notice that it also happens to other discussions about sports most of them didn't get any response. Why do you think mylotters are not interested in responding with this kind of topic?

I love basketball but ask me who are the players of this team and that team and I can't answer you. I think that's why many don't like to talk about sports simply because they have little knowledge of if they do they don't think they have enough knowledge to share.

oh I see because me I really like sports and I do know most if not all of the players in NBA. But your reason is good maybe some hesitate to respond because they think they can't contribute if the discussion gets further.

I think there are way to much subjects and it's hard to reply on each of them. Some people try to reply on disccussions of their friends, other just on the ones of their interests. For the rest it beats me too. I also started discussions and have hardly any respons. Pity if you really like to have some opinions from other people.

that is true kitty It's quite disappointing when you really want a good conversation about sports and then everyone ignore it that's why after those 2 discussions I started about sports I didn't do another one again.
Hi Hatley I also observed that, many of the discussions topic (not only in sports though) are just a mere statement like how he like this particular team or how she hate this team and that's it, no question or sentence that ask for other's opinion.

Although its maybe one of the factors. But I don't think so. Because for example me. I don't add anything in my list of interest. Or about just a dozen. But most of threads that I'm posting to I don't add in my list of interest.

Same here I check all the new discussions regardless if it's in my list of interest or not. But it can't be the same with other's especially those who don't have much time to spend here in mylot so they only check those discussions from their interest or discussions from friends thus ignoring other discussions out of their interest.

At least you respond to the sports you. I like most of the sports but sometimes I hesitate to respond because one time I respond to an interesting sports topic but the topic didn't get other response and the creator of the discussion didn't even comment back to my response.

well i really dont get it too,but i believe its because here in mylot sport doesnt enhance the desire in expressing ones thought and feelings because it doesnt matter in the sense that its just an opinion or fact that doesnt change anything because it is never put into practise unlike other things of life that an opinion matters because it can be put into practise by everyone who comes across the opinion or fact which make people more interested in them than in sport.

I guess. Its simply just that theirs so many people who love different sports but we all know that all people have sense of humor. Its like this. If we talk about food. every body eats so every body can reply. But if we talk about volleyball. I think only had full knows how to play volleyball or if they know watch volleyball.

Uhm I understand what you are trying to say but what I don't understand is I see a lot of trivial questions here that is very unlikely to have practical use in our life but get many responses

I do not know anything about sports, do not follow it on television, or in the papers. I am not able to make an intelligent and useful comment to a discussion about sports. It really is not a good answer to come on and day, "Hi, friend, I do not know. I am just answering to earn the pennies for responding."

hi phillyguy but did you give them something to discuss in the sports discussion like the dumb strike of basketball. see we h ave to h ave something to write on to respond to a sports discussion like if you had asked our take on the basketball strike. just give us something to sink our teeth into and talk about and you will get
responses. a lot of us are not into some sports but I will
respond to baseball and basket ball if I am given something
to discuss with it.

hi Hatley yeah I do ask for other's opinion. In my discussion I ask if you think Matt Kemp deserve to be the National League MVP. I don't give much details but I think that short question is good to start a conversation.

Yeah I think it's common for women like you to not understand or should I say not get interested with sports.

Hi phillyguy,
My guess is sports discussions aren't popular because it simply has no appeal to those whose physical skills are less developed compared to their intellectual skills. Normally people who are good in sports would be more interested in responding to such threads.

hi julian
Yeah it is possible that most of the guys here are just really not into sports. And those who like sports are not into online activities such as forums and discussion site like this.

Its because theirs so many who write about sports and one thing about sports is that the news is only good for that day. That means the more you talk about sports the more they are not interested anymore. Simply because that's already an old news. That what I think the reason is.

I will say that i am not keen on any sports, so that is one discussion that i myself would not answer.I think that it all depends on what people like to if they respond or not.Not many of my friends that are on this site tend to start a discussion on sports either, that is one thing that i have noticed.

I think you are right it is just about the fact that there are less people who are interested in sports. But once in awhile I still see some discussions about sports and I tell myself this is probably a new member and it will get few or no response at all.

My husband love the futball soccer he stays watching that for hours, but I don't understand that and don't want to understan that either, he encourage to sit with him to watch the game with him,but I just see man hitting the others falling on top to the others and I am like "but why that man hit the other? it has to hurt a lot!!"
So he begin to explain that this is what is about the game, and this and that, but I don't understand nothing at the end, and don want to understand either .
In a discussion of politician, sports, asking for opinions of my experiencies with blogs or online jobs, I don't participate because I don't want to give any wrong consideration about something that I don't know.

hehe typical couple I think your statement that you don't want to give any wrong information is a good character because you don't want to mislead people unfortunately there are some people here who just try to respond in a discussion, for the sake of responding, even though they don't actually understand what it's all about.

because those sports fanatics who can relate to the discussion are most likely busy playing that very sport outside. XD

I don't know, unless it's because myLot is so international. Sports are kind of specific to a country.
I've noticed this about other topics, too. Knitting and foraging are two of my interests, but seldom are posted about here. I don't know why. More general topics go over well, as do money related posts and more personal confessions/rants.

that could be. I just answered a post yesterday agreeing that there is no "stupid" question at all then maybe there is no "trivial" question at all.

Yeah that's a good point maybe because there's just too many sports.
That only a few is interested in a specific one. I also agree that money related posts are the topics that receive a lot of responses as well as discussions about trivial things.

Hi friend this one worked and having a quick look at the responses it looks as though I would agree with a mix of a couple of your responders.
Being that this site is international and sport does not generally cross the boarders. Cricket not being widely played in the states and baseball not widely played outside the states.
Sports are for players and spectators not writers or readers.
Also those people that play sports don't often sit down and right about them and if they did people that played or watched would not want to read about it.
