Do you think it is right to deny for Pres. Arroyo to seek medical help abroad?

DOJ recently denies the plea of President Arroyo in seeking medical help abroad. This is due to medical advice and legal implications of the probable possibility of we might loss her in the process. Meaning she could choose to stay in countries where there is no extradition treaties with the Philippines. But my heart is telling me that is very unjust considering that we are depriving her of the basic right to life. For me, whether she choose to flee or not, is both a hard consequence on her end. It would always a loss situation, being out of the country and away from your loved ones, leaving everything behind, Nobody could be happy with that situation especially that she was undergoing a very hard medical condition. In this time, she needs all the attention she needs from her family and going away is also a difficult decision. What do you think fello mylotters?

Hi there, While I may agree that Arroyo has the right as she pleases, but it isn't a privilege that she can do what she wants. The thing is, she has cases against her that she needs to face. It can be an act of unkindness if we don't give her the right, unfortunately that right is not the same with a right of an ordinary person. We have a process to follow since she is being implicated with some questioning here. Hence, her actions have consequences. Let us put it this way, if she has not done wrong in the past, the consequence may not be the same or she may not have been suffering now. However, we cannot judge and decide on something which we have no complete knowledge of. If the DOJ denies the request, it is because the facts have irregularities and it is not because the intention is sincere. If perhaps Arroyo has a sincere intention of going out for medical reasons, then certainly there is no reason for the DOJ to decline.

Supreme court it the highest judicial system on Philippine soil, the ruling already favors GMA to travel. IT shall then be respected by the present administration. The alleged crime will still be alleged until sufficient evidence be submitted to the court. The right to seek further treatment and to travel is a basic right to every citizen in the country regardless of social status. If she has wronged in the past, what shall be the government doing on the issue, so much for hearsay, work and prove it. IF she has been proven guilty lock her up. But this time the SC ruling is right.

As I understand about the situation of ex-pres Gloria Arroyo that's why they denied her seeking of medical treatment abroad is because it is the Philippine government shoulder her treatment. For humanitarian reason, they should allows her to go abroad for her treatment because her life/health is the main issue here and expenses for such treatment must come from their personal money and not government's money, she has lots of money anyway, DOJ should allowed her in order to prolong her life to face those of cases filed against her. God bless!

I feel the same way too. If she survive the treatment and she values her word, then she will come back to face the charges. I think she will, she has the power and the money to clear her name anyway. We know that justice will not be serve the same way when the person you are charging is not as powerful and rich as the Arroyos.

Her request to seek treatment in countries where there are extradition treaties smell very fishy to me and I think it is right for her appeal to be denied. I also think that her request to seek treatment abroad insults our medical practitioners here. Remember, she is getting treatment at one of the best and expensive hospitals here in our country. We also know how expensive it is to study medicine here and I do know that our doctors are really one of the best in the world. Her physicians at St. Luke's also declared that she is fit, so why is she saying that she is getting worse and needs to get treatment abroad. And why with these countries? Why not in the US? Or London? She is using her "medical" condition to try to escape from all the corruption charges that are being brought against her.

Oh, and by the way if you are really sick would still travel? These countries are far and require some hours to travel by plane. And she is claiming she is sick? When my mommy was really sick, she couldn't even stand. And she claims that her injury is in her spine. So, you have an injury on your spine you will travel X number of hours to get treatment?

i personally do not like the news that the best ones are not in this country, but abroad. it may be true. but i would like to believe that we are comparable with others especially in some fields including medical field. it is an insult to our experts and specialists here in our country. how can we put trust to our doctors if our own leaders do not trust our doctors? the medical association is saying that it has experts who can treat her. of course, it is arroyo's right to seek another opinion from abroad.

You have a good point here mensab. But the spokeperson of the former president is telling that she needs a medical equipment that is not available in our country.

I cannot comprehend the basis of such decision by DOJ(Laila de Lima)by not allowing former Pres. GMA to seek medical attention outside of the country.De Lima being the former chairwoman of the CHR should be considerate enough to allow GMA to leave the country, whether she may come back or not,Is she a threat to national security? She may be guilty of the numerous charges filed against her and her husband but that doesn't justify such actions. If ever she is allowed to leave the country,I don't think she's going to runaway from her legal troubles,Doing so will only prove that she is guilty of doing the things that they are charging her and will go down in history of the Philippines as the worst President we've ever had.

I trust the former President that she would never run away from this case. I think she will never like to be in the hiding. And weather she run away, it is the same thing as being in prisoned or an exile. She wouldn't want it to happen.

In my opinion it is just right to deny such request to Arroyo, why?? She wants to go to countries where she cant be forced to go back to Philippines, no extradition treaty. Why do they have to choose countries like that when DOJ gave them list of countries where in they can seek medications and yet be contacted and extradite ,if irregularities in cases where they are involve here in Philippines appears. There are also lots of certified and qualified doctors here in the Philippines to do such medications to her. Come on! she got almost everything in their pocket. do we just let her disappear out of the blue .? We should not be like "forgive and forget" were millions are concern.

Why not ask her for a bargain? If she is willing to freeze all her assets, then we could allow her.

I would say that somehow it is okay for the justice to deny her the right to go out of the country. It is possible really that they/she will only be there for obvious reasons - and that is to escape the charges against her in the country. I think they should be able to present first all details that would say that there is really not one doctor who specializes in her case. I have worked in a hospital too, and part of the campaign was medical tourism, meaning we have doctors equipped to handle serious cases. Foreigners come here because it is cheaper to have their treatments done in the Philippines! I'd say no to her going out for now and up until there is proof of how serious the illness is, is the time i might change my mind. She might not run away, but she might not come back either - and we will most probably be at the losing side in this issue, again because no one's accountable for all the issues she has to face.

I think the DOJ is right in denying her treatment abroad. There are specialists here that can treat her illness and they are as capable as their counterparts abroad. What's more was that the diagnosis of various doctors who examined her are contradicting each other about her condition. It is also highly suspicious that she needs to visit 5 to 6 countries. Why would an ill patient needs to seek treatment from those different places is suspicious enough. Her illness is not a rare one that can be treated only by experimental procedures. I bet her country-hopping "treatments" have to do with neck-breaking bank accounts she have on those places that she needs to close and transfer the loot to another place because they could implicate her if they were found.

The DOJ Secretary is doing the wrong thing. It is every Filipino's right to seek medical help outside the country. I don't see her leaving as a public health problem or a national security problem so I don't get why she was not allowed to go. I think she is doing it because she wants to please the president and maybe the majority of the people because lets face it, most people don't like GMA (I personally like her). Although there are lots of good doctors out here, you can't deny the fact that there are better doctors abroad. I think they should allow her to leave.

We are sharing the same thought, yes everyone is entitled to receive the best medical attention especially that they can really afford the travel. Maybe they should ask for a cash bond instead, whether or not she would come back to face the law, the money would definitely do good for our hungry countrymen. I don't personally like the former president for she allowed to be used by people sorrounding her for graft and corruption. But lets face it, her money could do many things to alleviate a lot of poor people here.

I stongly disagree with DOJ's decision as well as President Pnoy's decision to shoulder the expenses. Let her leave and seek medical help abroad. Let us accept the fact that there are cases where patients need to travel abroad just to get the right and proper treatment for their illness.

Medically I don't think they have the right to deny her travel. It is in the Patient's Bill of Rights. To grant any request to seek further treatment to any facility, location, doctors etc... It is a basic right to every citizen regardless of social status.

It is not right for the DOJ to deny her to the right to seek medical help abroad however, In a way I understand their decision. The places where arroyo is planning to go are uneccessary. If she wants to seek treatment, why she needsto travel in several countries. Is she on a vacation? have her treatment in the USA or just a single country otherwise it her appeal is synonymous to trying to get away from the law.
