That's right folks, the Dept. of Agriculture hasn't put in a request to Congress to come up with a Christmas Tree Tax, they have unilaterally imposed one.
I challenge anyone to show me where the US Constitution grants ANY taxing authority to the Executive Branch.
No excuse for this, not when he claims to have been a Constitutional Professor!!

I thought the constitution says it's the states that have the power to tax. Why doesn't someone stop this idiot?
I have used artificial trees for years, can't take pleasure in displaying and decorating a corpse in my living room. I guess next he'll tax fakes ones, too.

I agree with the author of this piece that Christmas trees have a great image all on their own without government interference. I wonder what they'll do to the image? Makes me sad.
Aside from that, isn't fifteen cents one of those nickel and dime things?

Most governments delegate powers to lower level of administration.
So Ted, are you against taxing this pagan custom or not?
all the best urban

I am against the fact that this piece of crap president continues to piss all over the US Constitution.
He's nothing but a royalty wannabe who resents the fact that he can't simply snap his fingers and we all kiss his toe jam.

The US Constitution grants taxing power to the Legislative Branch, Prs. Obama and his den of bureaucratic thieves have no authority to tax anyone.

But does the constitution allow for delegation of powers?
Secondly, you didn't answer my question

Christmas comes but once a year (unless your in-laws or relatives are Ukranian, then it comes twice a year.) No one needs a study on the marketing of Christmas trees. Can you say Cash Cow? I am waiting for a tax on people who read Bibles in public or a tax on schools who hand out Gideon Bibles.

With the massive mess this country is in...and this is all he bothers to do about it? I am telling Bill O'Rielly and Sean Hannity!

Don't bother, Obama decided that this doesn't help his chances for re-election, so he axed it.

Are you sure? I mean still... I see the tree lots these past couple years and the day after christmas they have so many still piled up that they never even untied prior. I think so many are buying artifical..(they are getting a little more affordable these days) that not as many are buying live. What an idiot he was...he should have taxed artificial ones!

Oh Ted, I guess you didn't get the new and improved Constitution, it is much more efficient, It is four simple words - "whatever the president wants".
Now that you know, we shouldn't have to worry about all of this dissension. Now just shut up and take it or the thought police will be all over your a$$ since your behaving like a terrorist.

Yup, he has decided it's not good for his chances for re-election, so he's giving the Christmas Tree Tax the ax.
I notice though that he said nothing about the fact that it's unconstitutional in his reasons.

This is freaking BS. I so hate our government more and more with every passing day. I live in apartment and don't even bother with a real tree anymore...kids are grown and still this just is wrong. I really miss all the Christmas traditions that I grew up with that our government has pretty much put an end to. Did I mention that I hate our government? It might only be a lousy 15 cents but we all know where this is going.
