How do you measure the success of an individual? Many people are trying to be successful , striving to reach the top, trying to do good in business, etc. It seems like success is equated to financial stability, having lots of property and big connections ion society. How about those that are contented with their life having a happy family, healthy lifestyle and has enough for their daily needs? Can we not consider that as successful? Does it usually mean that success is to become rich? It's quite tiresome and stressful I think? How can one attain success?

If you ask me I say one successful if he has done what no others did. People achieve big targets but if the person has achieved target bigger than me than he is successful for me at the same time if his target is small than other person's than he is not successful in other person's way through eyes.

You are in saying darapmonsta that achievement of one's goal and doing far better than his gal is a sign of success in comparison with the others who has not reach their target or goal. But i would like to compliment that realization of goals with happiness which lijoos has mentioned. Both are good criteria of success.

I think the best way to access success is to be confident and do whatever you think you should do.It's important to insist what you are doing.Especially when others do not support you. There are lots of friends beside me who doing such great things successfully.Good luck.

You can be right. Your success here, doing things with flying colors against all odds. Its kind of proving to them that even single-handedly, you can attain success. This is quite a tiring and stressful way of attaining success though.

I, myself, measure success by happiness. I don't think success is measured by having a big house, nice cars, and an all American marriage unless that's what makes the person happy. One time in a waiting room an old man said to me, "I don't care if a man lives in a shack. Every house is a man's castle. I wouldn't wanna live in a big house anyways. I'd have to be careful of getting little things like crumbs on the floor." He was so right. Success is only measured by money and excess if you want it to be.

I resonate with you lilblondiemjd. Happiness is my basis for success. Money is just a means to attain happiness but not all can be bought by it. Happiness derived from being contented in life is success. No money but but living happily is living a successful life to some.

For me success would mean being happy with the life you have. It differs from everyone because normally the poor and the rich considers success as being able to have a good business and living a wealthy life. However, average people thinks having a simple house than they call their own with their family with them can be considered that they have lived a successful life.

Success can be very subjective. It differs from person to person because each one of us has different goals and objectives in life. Once we have realized that set goals and objective we can say we are succesfull in achieving it. But the thing is once it is achieved, we set another one and another and another. So if this happen can we still consider that we are successful?

You are right. No matter how little or how big are our goals as long as we happy in achievement of it, we can say that we are successful. As to the younger ones, having more goals and trying to achieve them is just but the gratification of one's one for recognition and fulfillment. Something they can own and prove that they can do the things they want in life. These can also be success. As it also differs from person to person, there is no right or wrong answer since it is subjective. Thank you for your thoughts on this topic.

As you have said, each person has different goals and objectives in life. Some people can be very happy and satisfied when they achieve the happiness they got. It doesn't mean that they won't work hard anymore, it would just mean that simple things in life are enough for them to be happy and feel successful. Yes there are some people who set more goals, mostly the younger ones. It is just normal they are hungry for more achievements. But people who are mature enough understands that every good and little things we accomplish in life are what we can consider success.

Different people...with Different goals....and leading to Different success in life... what i think as a success for me might be just another event for another person. If one person wants to have friends and he/she did it then he/she is successful or if one person wants to learn something new from another person and that person will teach him/her then its a success.Or if a person wants to develop confident and he/she slowly working his/her way to over come there lack of confidence. If we don't start having success with this very little things(family, friends, self development, and etc) that we often neglect then how will we ever obtain the so called "financial success" in life? Success is anything a person desires, wants, and planned to be reached by that certain person whether its financial, emotional, physical, or spiritual. have a great day =)

Success is different for each person. I don't think I could look at ANY person and figure out if they're successful or not. I think that I can tell if they're doing well in life (financially, their living situation, etc.), but I'll never be able to tell if they're successful or not unless they tell me they think they're successful. I'm not successful in life right now because I don't think I am. Maybe in a few years down the road a bit, I'll change my mind and realize that I have become successful, but only I will ever know.

That's true mrconrad01. One can have his own criteria of what success is. There are people whose success is very glaring that they don't have to tell but there way of living can speak for it. There are also some who are the quite type. You will only know if you happen to be invited by them to their house. Most often , these are those who have plenty that they have have to brag about it or show it off because it's their everyday lifestyle. One can attain the success he aimed for by doing something towards the realization of his goals in life.

It's not always about the money. Some high positions seem successful but do not really pay enough to support a family. In my case I have what is considered a successful position but because I am a single mom, I also have to work a 2nd job for 11 hours on Saturday. That makes me successful - because then I can make enough to support my family and keep everyone satisfied. Success is different for everyone.

Success can be subjective. Personal goals that are achieved could mean success. I agree that money is not the sole basis of attaining success but it is a means that can make you fulfill your goals and dreams in life that can make you successful.

You are right midnightbliss. What you are passionate about and happy in doing it, can be a form of success. Having the basic needs and still have something to share to others is success.

Hi, In my opinion, a good human being equals a successful person. I would consider a person who looks beyond the luxuries of this materialistic world as a successful one. Unlimited properties and huge bank balances may provide a comfortable living but most unlikely to hold the key to happiness.

Success comes in many forms. And not to mention there are times where you can succeed to an extent, but not really get to your goal right away. Success is something that depends on the actual goals. Not to mention if there are several smaller goals that are leading up to a much larger goal. Milestones that people can hit one at a time and if they do not completely really get to them a lot of the time, then that is more than fine. I think that if you talk to three different people, then their success is really different things. Plus for me, even if I failed, I actually did succeed in a way. I gained some valuable knowledge about what steps not to take. That will lead to my inevitable success in other ways. It was just a momentarily set back, nothing more, nothing more else. That is just really something that depends on the person. That being the measure of success.

Success is different for every person. For me it's being at peace with God and the people around me, having a happy marriage, having enough money to have a home and enough to eat and all that goes with that, being able to be self-employed, and being able to keep my bills paid with enough left over to help someone in need.

I agree that success differ from one person to person. The pleasant and favorable environment you mentioned are indeed a concrete description of what success is. Achievement of one's goal , to some is their basis of what success is for them too. All these can become our criteria.

I would call a person successful when He/she has achieved the goals he/she has set for himself/herself. For instance having many friends doesn't mean success to me but having connections does. Similarly another person may feel he need friends as well as connections to be successful.

I agree with you boyuancy. While there are those who can be seen as successful externally, there are also those who are successful based on the goals and objectives they have set for themselves. Having reached that goal is already an achievement and thus can be considered a success.

Being successful is always depends on each individual. A lot of people may think that they are successful just because of their wealth. The true meaning of success for me is just simple. Having a life that is mine and being able to play my role as a mother to my children. You don't have to be frustrated if you are not rich. A lot of successful people don't even have a dime on their bank account but still they are still happy living their lives as it is. If you can be happy and contented, you can consider yourself successful!:)

hello cherriefic. It is true that having so much money is not the sole basis of success. It all depends on one's goals and objectives in life. What is money if you are not happy? I think would rather choose to have a simple life and yet fulfilled and happy. I think that is the true essence of what success is.

Success plays an whital role in ones life. Without success no one can live in this earth. All the fields such as education level and other fields are in the competition to over come others.A person is said to be successful when he overcome all his inabilities. Am I right ?
@janevi (888)

Yes a person can be considered successful if he will be able to overcome his weaknesses. When overcoming his weaknesses are set as one of his goals in life, only then that we can say he is successful. In our multicultural,multi-disciplinary and other multi's we can't avoid to be competitive. But that is not the motivation in attaining success. It is not the one that can make a person live. If that is the reason why you live here on earth, maybe you are missing the point of your existence. It can play a role in our life but not the absolute reason to live.

That's right woheri. Every person can have a different definition of what success is because each one has different goals and objectives in life. They may be somewhat similar to the other to some extent. The essence can be present but the way it is achieve is different. thank you for your contribution.
