We all expect certain things from life, and we all get certain things. Unhappiness is when you get less than you expect; happiness is when you get as much or more than you expect. It follows that there are two ways to change this equation. One -- change your expectations -- two -- improve your outcomes. Since we generally have more control over the former than the latter, happiness is beyond a certain point mostly a matter of lowering your expectations to conform with reality. This is just a kind of stark way to describe the Buddhist path -- letting go of expectations or attachments to particular outcomes. However, I am no Buddhist, and the same idea permeates much of psychiatric therapy, particularly the Jungian variety; and many other philosophical paths. This is bad news for idealists and romantics -- I know, as I am both. I have adopted the refrain, "it is what it is" and done my best with it. Am I happier? At times. The fundamental world weariness I've felt since childhood has never really left me, however. I am not blessed with lots of "happy juice" in my veins. In the cold calculus of effort vs reward, life has never sustainably been a slam dunk for me, and I would not wish the totality of my life to date on anyone. I'm in my fifties now and I put up with it mostly because people I love and care about depend upon me, plus I still have a certain curiosity about how it will all shake out in the end. I think I've done pretty will considering that I've had to overcome a divorce, being widowed, having a lifelong physical illness that is painful and dealing now with various vexations with my current fiancee and her kids and mine. Your mileage can and will vary, but I think the above principles hold pretty true for everyone.

Hello Wulania, I also believe sad and happy are our bodies mechanism for dealing with emotion. When we experience a joyous event we feel good or happy and when we are uncomfortable in our surroundings we become sad . Tears are one of the body's biological expressions or outlets for joy or sadness. You can usually tell the difference in a persons general body language as to weather they are happy or sad. Have a good day.

Tears don't necessarily indicate sadness, it can be in the form of happiness too. We have tears of joy and tears of sorrow. Life is full of ups and downs don't ever expect your life to be happy always in some or other way there will be problems in your ways coming in all forms of direction you need to make yourself strong to stand firm in these problems. Happiness comes when anxiety, fear, depression and stress and obviously more other factors are thrown out of your life. Taking control on our emotions is not easy. Emotions are highly sensible and can make a person drown to misery if he think about a situation too much. We must make our self happy always in bad times. The only difference in happiness and sadness is that state of mind of how you think. If you think positively the mind is always joyful even if you do that in you sad times, So make the best use of life. Concluding on the topic i would like to say that one who balances his life with joys and sorrows is the happiest person in the world.

Sadness and Happyness are just human feelings that are connected to the tear duct and when they are extremely motivated the tears will appear . There are many others feelings that make us cry too like to be proud , like to be ashamed or regret , or memories.

Hi wulania, You know tears do not mean sadness at any time,we shed tears even we're happy sometimes. That kind of happiness may comes after a long time of sadness,so we feel that something huge repressed us is disappeared and we drop tears. When you see people with smile on their faces,at least we can tell that they're happy apparently while you look at their eyes, there is no light and no hope, how can we say that they're happy? Have fun in mylot~

Tears doesn't necessarily meas you are sad. I would actually assume that even once in your life, you cried because you were happy and not sad. Sadness for me is the feeling of being alone and being neglected. It is the absence of contentment and satisfaction. On the other hand, happiness is the feeling of achieving something that put you on made you feel proud, made you feel contented and make you feel complete. In our lives we feel both of these emotions and it is just but normal. We always wish that everyday is a holiday but that's actually not healthy. Feeling both this emotions is what makes us stronger and prepare us to other life's challenges.
