In my first week here in mylot I respond to a topic that was started 1 year ago but only because I don't notice the date it was created. Have you come across an old but very interesting discussion? Let's say a discussion created 3 months ago. Do you still respond to the the discussion?

If I missed the third layer comments of course I would respond to it. I don't if its just me but there are no notifications after third layer comments and more. (I hope they'll do something about it.)

Hi ehleon! sorry but I am a little confused about it what do you mean by "I missed the third layer comment"?

Oh i see. In that case you just check in the "discussions i started" because you can see there who last responded to your discussion that's what I do to check if there's a new comment. But in my question the scenario is different because you are not the one who start the discussion and you just come across this really interesting but old topic.

The response after this is the perfect example. Whenever I start a discussion and someone responded, it will notify me through outlook, then, if he responded to continue our discussion again it doesn't send me notifications anymore. So, sometimes I always fail to check.

Yes,I even responded to a topic that is 5 years old.
It is because I can relate with the topic and can't resist to write my comment and respond to that discussion.
The topic starter is not active anymore, so no chance to comment back to my response.

Hi jaiho
If I am the discussion starter of a five year old discussion (though i am just member of myot for a month) I will be excited to read a response from someone five years later.

yes this can happen, interesting topics can float around for a long time, yes I would still respond to a discussion that is old, it brings it back into circulation and that is good if it is a good topic..

hi lilaclady
yeah I think you are right if the topic is really interesting and if you can add relevant ideas or infos about the topic then respond to the discussion and hope that the starter comment back on your response.

I always come across 1 year old topics here in mylot,
sometimes that makes me turn off whenever I realize it's
already a year ago, but if I really like the topic and it's
so interesting for me, I'll reply to it.

yeah I think it is about how interested we are on the topic. And sometimes I feel bad for some old but interesting topic that didn't get any response from the past.

I will respond to an interesting discussion even if it is from five years ago. I have had many people respond to my old discussions as well. Usually if one person responds to an old discussion it gets renewed enough that two or three others will as well.

I have responded to several like this. If I feel that my discussion is a good one and I still am waiting for the best response then I leave it and wait and see what I get. I will respond to a good or interesting discussion whether it is 3 months to a year or more and see what happens.

Oh yes..if I chance across any discussion that is interesting or that I can add too, I go ahead. The thing is that discussions aren't supposed to be repeated so if you run upon one that is interesting, it might be a one of a kind. There are often times discussions that are repeated here...there are a lot of people here with great ideas. Some of their ideas are bound to be similar...but there are those one discussions that are unique..we better go ahead an answer them.

Hi phillyguy
Of course, I have bumped into quite many that were old. I look out for the fact that when the last response was made and normally I do not respond to these discussions... I feel it would be talking to myself if the starter has already handed out the BR. But in case I find that the starter has returned to comment back the last response which wasnt ages ago, I do post a comment.... but that is rare.

hi Sids
Yeah that's why I kind of like laugh at myself after I realized that it's a topic from along time ago, because my response is like question to the starter which I check is not active anymore.

I never did responding to an old discussion of long ago. I would then watch if the discussion had been posted for long time or months already. I would not responded to it.

Just a month ago? even though it is really interesting and you can share something about the topic?

If I find it really interesting even if it's old I will still respond to it. Though I don't usually encounter such, I only see old post when I try to search for a certain topic.
