Please help the technology challenged set up their profile!

Hello everyone I am a new user to myLots and when I originally set up my profile I used the avatar suggested to keep it simple. Now I am trying to change the avatar to a picture. I have managed to add a picture to my profile it is just not showing as my avatar. As mentioned in my subject line I am technology challenged I am one of those moms whose kids set up their cell phones! I looked at myLots faqs but did not see an answer. Someone please help?! Thank you so much!
