How can I move on from here?

Well I have formed a support group for website and blog owners and the initial response was great, within weeks I managed to find 10 members. I thought that would be the most difficult task, however I found out that the group is rather inactive and I am not sure what is the reason?
My purpose to create this group to to help website and blog owners with their questions and queries and how to improve on their website and blog. Of course I am no expert that is why I form this group, hopefully someone else might be able to pick on the queries I am not able to answer. However I have posted some SEO and search engine matters. I am not too sure if anyone actually visited it.
My Reason for wanting to setup my own site to earn money, because there are site like mylot and mypage5 and many other sites, they might be paying now but what happens if they decide that they do not wish to pay anymore? Then we would have to find earning sites all over again. Also to keep the friendship as we all improve our sites and earnings.
What advice do you have to for me to get this group active? I have few ideas but not too sure how to go about.
1. Invite more people, increase the number of people from 10 to 30 or even more so I might get 4-5 people that is really interested to improve their website. ( Some people already think I am spam, which is no my intention, how should I go about look for new members if this is the opinion)
2. Remove the inactive with other members ( keep the group small so that people would get close and be more helpful)
3. Open the group to public. ( The reason I keep it private so we would openly discuss issues and not be afraid as we are all friends.)
Are there other opinions out there? Please to let me know. I would like to make this a success. I hope it would help myself and other like minded people like me to have greater success on their blog and website.
Cheers.. Thanks in Advance if you are able to help, even if you are not able thanks for the listening ear.

The first thing you must do to have a successful website is to have a clear idea of your site's purpose. You then build your Website around your "purpose statement".
The next step is to identify your target audience so you can better understand what your audience will want from your site and what kind of content will keep them interested.
You seem to be doing ok in keeping the site updated so far. Many times it is so easy to build a site and then leave it on it's own without updating. It will never be successful like that although it may still be of use depending upon your purpose for the site.
I am sorry I haven't visited your site lately but I am taking online classes plus working so I have been extremely busy. I also had a problem with my computers system (Windows XP) so I had to back up my files and I installed Windows 7 and then had to re-install all my programs and preferences and passwords. I work from home repairing computers and also internet work so it was quite a task to get my new system up and running with all the software and sites that I use.
You are actually doing rather well to have that many members in such a short time. It takes a long time to build site traffic and recruit members. You also have to understand that some members will not log on as often as others. It all depends on how much your site appeals to them or what it offers.
If you wanted to earn money with your website then you probably should have built it that way from the start. I mean no disrespect. I have found that I make most of my money online selling something. I have a website that offers free listing for paying survey sites but earnings from references and such is so small that you would have to have thousands of references to really make much money. I suggest you keep this site and use it as I took it to be. A site for members to learn from each other and share resources to building successful Websites. This way you will gain knowledge from your members as well as sharing and a lot of this knowledge is hard to come by. It takes experience of trial and error and a lot of people that have gone through these trials to become successful are not so eager to give away their secrets so readily. Obtaining knowledge that is really helpful and not some scam to get your money is very important and rare. If you want to make money with a Website, first define a clear purpose for your site and them build it. This is the hardest part because if everyone knew the best thing to sell or offer then everyone would be instantly successful.
I think you are doing fine for now. Is this your fist Website? I will check in as soon as I can and maybe add some links or content to help but right now my schoolwork is screaming to get done and they pile it on. I have so much to do and my network class is the most demanding, it requires hours of educational videos and virtual classroom tasks that take so long to complete and are very demanding to learn since it is mostly technical stuff like TCP/IP protocols and IP addresses and subnet address. You get the point?
I wish you the best. Be patient with your members and be happy to have them. One thing I just thought of that might help you get them more interactive. What if you added a forum? It would take a lot of work, I have never done a forum myself before, only used them but if you want interaction that is the way to go. People will be able to post what they need or questions they need help with and others can respond. Look at the kind of interaction that happens here on mylot. Is that what you are after? Just a thought.

I found the link and all the information. I had some problems with my system (Windows XP) so I finally just upgraded to Windows 7 but I had to backup all my e-mails, files, password, etc. and I am just now tying up all the loose ends and getting back to normal.
I am looking for my password (may have to reset) but I am looking at your site today or tomorrow and will have some more input for you.

I stand corrected. You have a forum. Sorry; told you I had a system crash and have been to busy to check your site in a while. Please message me or something to make sure I still have the Web address and I promise I will log in and check it out some more and participate.

Well, u should never remove any inactive members. Since they are online to earn and learn, they should be given the opportunity and that's why your support group exist for people like them. If u were to remove them, they would lose even more motivation.. haha Maybe u should get the group going by posting and asking more questions. Take initiatives being the founder and who knows they might respond with more? haha

I think this is a great idea and has alot of things going for it. Full speed ahead! I hope you get more members. I would be interested but I won't push for membership. I have tried my hand at blogging but with not very good results. Not sure I would ever need a website. Until I publish my first bestseller anyway.

Keeping it private is better than making it public. Within a small group and u have people thinking it might be a scam, does not do u any better. Also, don't remove inactive members because they are there to see and learn. I supposed u have to find out more about the common interest, common sites among the members before u can move on. It's pointless to have a support group when nobody knows anything about each other, and the sites they are on are different from one another.

you are right on that, I sent out invitation base on the replies I see either from here, or other forum and social media sites. I thought that since I am selective, the members would have been more active, however I was wrong, perhaps I should widen the group. What do you think?

well, you can pursue one thing, but settle first on the first thing. when you created the group, you simply wanted to have a support group. now that you have the group, make it truly a support group that you really wished for. earning from it comes secondary if you really want a support group. now, if you really want to earn online, then build on the contents of the site or blog which attracts more members and potential members. wish you good luck!

mensab,
The support group is to help each other with our blogs or websites, however I do not intend to earn from the group. It is just to help each other improve on our website and we could earn from there. Because of that I also did not want people to use this group in that way, that is why I have set this group as private and does not want to promote in the normal way. That is why I am only inviting members, and some view it as spamming, which I am sorry. But my intention, is to help other members with the website at the same time improve on my.

I think you may want to open it up to more people with the expectation that only a few of them will be active. Most forums I belong to there are many subscribers but only the same few people consistently talk back and forth and every now and then a new person will chime in with a thought or two. I have noticed this same trend even with talk radio....there will be thousands of listeners, but again only the same handful of people call in every day. Do you have a page where everyone who signs up is encouraged to introduce themselves and tell what they would like to get out of the forum? That may open up some dialogue.

I think I would invite more members, I have not decide on promoting as it is a private group so unless you are invited you would not be able to find the forum. I do have an introduction as well as a showcase section where they can promote their blog or website.

I think the site should be opened to the public. Keeping it private is limiting who might want to respond with great solutions to our problems. Also, if you open the site to the public you will not have to find all the participants yourself.
The best way to increase participation in the site is to consistently seek and post interesting information. Word of mouth will spread and you will eventually pick up followers.

I would welcome people that are willing to contribute or can benefit from this group. At the moment only the members would be able to view and discuss inside the forum. My thinking is that it is private, the people are more willing to share opinions and idea. Or would be willing to ask questions.
I hope I would find information and answers for the people with questions to improve their website.

I think that the first thing that you need to do when you are working with the site that you've been building is to establish a clear vision of what you are wanting to do with your site and what the requirements for participation to stay a member of your site are going to be. It will only be once you've clearly established those goals that you will be able to be successful in your site running the way that you would like for it to run.

If you are really making a support group, then show them your sincerity. Help them if they find some difficulty, if they are inactive make a follow and ask what is the reason.
I understand it is difficult to make a good active specially if some of the group member just joined with out knowing what's the real purpose of the group. Try to hire more who are interested and those people who have common interests like yours.
If is getting interesting in a group if everyone can share the same passion and interest.

andy4pinoy, how can I show sincerity? I would try my best to help them if they show me what are the problems they have. I too have sent an email to ask them about it. It they would only ask then I would be able to find the answers for them or if not other members might be able to do so.
The real purpose is to help each other improve on our own sites. and I do hope it would get interesting.

I think keeping it closed is a good idea. I also think that you should always have registration open. meaning that they go to your website or area of meeting and submit an article. You could have guidelines and rules about what about it ect. And you could look-over these and decide whether you want them in or not. It is always a good idea in my opinion to keep the doors open. Also depending on the profit you could have fun sweepstakes or drawings or just plain reward people for activity like here.

I know what you mean, the door are open for anyone to join but I want the protect the members too. What we are doing is not illegal or anything but helps to have some privacy so that people are more willing to share, information or ideas.
I am not thinking of profit among the group, the reward would come direct to their site, something that belongs to them.
