When's the last time you've played a board game with the family?

Oh yes! I'm talking about Monopoly, Sorry, Family Feud, and Candyland! When's the last time you've whipped out a board game to play with the children or the others? Its good, clean fun and it keeps the good times going! I played Monopoly the other day with a couple of buds and we made some great memories, and we played for over 5 hours! Then we grabbed some beers and watched a good game on TV! The poin.t is, set aside some time to play Deal or No Deal or Family Feud with the family, especially when the holidays are so near! The children will love it! :)

I think that it has been a few months to say the very least. I think the last time was when the electricity went out. There was really nothing else better to do than to play the board game, when the electricity went out and the incompetent people had to fix it. Of course it went out about two more times before they got it completely working, but that is just the nature of things. At least it got working after a short time.
So yeah in the meantime we played a nice game of Monopoly. I got bankrupt but hey it was better than just sitting in the dark and staring at the ceiling for a few hours while we waited for the power to go back on. It was rather fun. Always good to have a few board games on hand, for an emergency because you never know when you might need to do something when the power goes out at the worst possible time.

We have Family Game Night every Friday night. We only have a few games but we let the boys decide which game they want to play. We have Candyland, Life, Uno attack, Sorry, and Scrabble Scoop.
The boys love doing it and it brings us all together for family time! we usually bring out the card table and chairs and have snack foods while we play. WE'll play for a hour or so depending on if my hubby has to work or not.
The boys also know that if they misbehave during the week or get in trouble at school that they have to sit out of Family Game NIght.

Board games! Oh the memories of playing Pictionary and Clue makes me wax nostalgic. It's the same for me: hours and hours of fun over a weekend evening, with chips and some drinks in tow. I'm more of a computer gamer nowadays but there's also something about manipulating physical pieces over cardboard that makes the experience long-lasting and more fun.

Hello, dellessimon45 ! Funny you started this discussion, because recently me , my boyfriend and 2 other couples have started meeting once per week to try out different board and card games. So far we've played Monopoly, Catan, Magic the Gathering but we want to try out all sorts of other games too. So if you have recommendations, please let me know.
It;s not exactly family night as you described, but then again we're not yet at that level in our lives to have a family so this is as close as it gets for us :) Usually we also start the night by playing and then watching stuff on youtube, or just sitting around talking about businesses we want to start. That is..if we don't do out in the town :)
All in all, boardgames are a really nice way to get to know your friends/family and spent a nice and quiet evening at home.

Hi dellessimon, welocome to mylot! the other night I played slide and ladder with my kids and kids really enjoyed the game. It's true that children have individual differences and that's the good thing of family bonding, I can compare other from the other, while playing with them I observed that my older son is cheating he moves her stones more than on what he got while my 2nd son is really very honest and very sports in playing. never mind my youngest because he was only 4years old, he played with us, too but he is a king he place his stone anywhere he want to put it. Times with our kids really enjoying, one way of showing them that we care and love them dearly.

Funny that I almost forgot how much I enjoyed playing board game with my family and friends lone ago. Probably more than 10 years ago. When I was in elementary, playing scrabble is one of my favorite past time.

I played monopoly last night with my family... After we were done, I went out with a friend & played poker at a local bar... People I know, myself included, don't wait till holidays to do something together... We do it whenever possible... I don't understand why some people wait till holiday to do anything with people they know & love... I know everybody has a busy life but I can't imagine somebody who can't set aside 2 - 3 hours a week to get in touch with people who means anything in their lives...

We don't play that much board games because my kids can't stand it if they don't win :-( they are just 6 and 8 years old. Still we play. The last time we playes scrabble but we also play chess (my son and I he loves that).
We have a dutch game called: goose board.. I like it but we have to change the rules a bit otherwise (with less people playing it) we will all be in the well, prison or bushes waiting for someone to rescue us or we die and have to start all over again.
I bought a new gave for December 5th. It's a board game. This evening St. Nicolaas will come over and bring presents for the kids. To not make them unwrap them within a few minutes we will play that game. It depends on where they land if they have to sing a St Nicolaas song, can unwrap a present or get a sweety (kruidnoot or pepernoot)

I don't play board games much with my family, but this year, my roommates and I have been playing a board every week or two. It's really is a great way to get everyone out of their own rooms and into the living room to play a game. It's gets pretty hilarious when we play things like Apples to Apples. Have to say though...Twister has been the best one so far. Exercise and hilarity all in one game. I swear some of the poses came straight off an animal documentary on Animal Planet. lol
