We use Skype. My husband has friends in the Netherlands that he talks to nearly everyday using Skype.

skype's better because you can talk to a person even if you play a big computer game.But I like YM too

YM voice is a good solution, but skype offers better voice quality and good conferencing features.

for chatting i preffer YM voice but if you want to calling someone i preffer Skype. YM voice is suck for calling.
