Five wiped out

My son is a truck driver and we had a first light snow yesterday. First he posted on a social site "be careful bridges are slippery". Then later he posted "saw five wiped out in ditch or on bridges". Do you slow down when driving for weather conditions?

I sure do! And usually piss off some drivers around here. ALot of people drive big trucks and think they are invinsable. Hopefully it won't snow very hard here this year. I live in a valley and the mountains usually get the most of it. We have already had some light dusting. I hate to see it!

I sure do slow down, but it is surprising how many people don't!

You better believe I do! I am not under the delusion that I am untouchable like some teens and a lot of men seem to be. I don't think the most skilled of drivers can always avoid an accident. I have liability only insurance too, so I don't relish the thought of having to pay for damage I cannot afford. Plus, even though I don't mind dying and going to Heaven, I don't want to be maimed and stuck here on earth in a bad state. But worst of all, I can't stand the thought of being the cause of an accident that would hurt someone else.

You're right! that would be so awful! I don't think people always remember how close we all are on those roads!

I am a truck driver , also, and I have seen many accidents people could have avoided if they had slowed down ! I know I do, but I notice a lot of people don't, because they either have their thoughts somewhere else, or have just got too much confidence, and have overestimated their driving abilities in bad weather ! They don't think of other people, and especially their own families and friends !

My husband's a truck driver, and he says the same thing, that lots of folks don't slow down for conditions, and he sure wishes they would!

I do slow down if I have to drive when the roads are bad. People can honk and pass me and make rude gestures but I get where I'm going safely. I try not to drive when there's a lot of snow and ice. Since I don't have a job (still looking after 4 years!) I have the luxury of waiting till the roads are cleared unless I have some sort of emergency. Funny thing about drivers--when I lived in Arizona people would panic if we had a brief rain shower and hit their brakes in a panic then creep along like turtles. Now back in the Midwest, snow and ice don't seem to bother most people and many of them drive recklessly, in my opinion. I remember doing donuts in a shopping mall's empty ice-encrusted parking lot when I was in my 20's and thought it was really fun. Now I'm in my late 50's and don't like the feeling of losing control of my vehicle. I think of the people I might injure or kill or cause financial trouble if I run into their car or truck. I've always been careful (aside from icy empty parking lots) but I'm even more careful now.

My husband, then boyfriend, used to do that! I never did, and like you, nowadays, really don't like that feeling!
