My new hobby!!!

I was watching a show on telly wednesday night to do with arts and crafts. If you are in England you may have watched it as well. Kirties#s homemade Britian. This week was all about flower arranging. I did my flower arranging badge at Guides many many moons ago, and even though I do buy flowers I normally just stick them in a vase. Anyway I'm trying to think of different things to do within my life and thought I would try my hand at this craft. I googled flower arranging for idots to get some tips. In my shed I already had some oasis and oasis holders as I had brought them in the summer as they were dirt cheap and thought I just may do something with them at some point!! As one does!!! Anyway went and found them last night, soaked the oasis. Today in between jobs I went ot market and brought some lovley flowers. So while the tea was cooking my daughter and I spent a very happy hour cutting flowers down and arranging them. She watched the show as well. They now sit on the sideboard in prize places so when our friends come to tea tomorrow night they can see them. My youngest son now would like ot have a go at arranging flowers which is good as on the show there was a vicar who had won many prizes for flower arranging. So over the weekend we need to go to the cheap shop and buy some more oasis and dishes etc ready for next week. Just wanted to share with you. Have you a new hobby that you would like to share with us all?

I've been snooping the internet for ways to earn online! That's my new hobby! I just started a few days ago here in mylot and found it promising so I've decided to stick around. Technically, mylot is my new hobby.

Flower arranging, I've had a try before and I usually just stick it in the vase as well. One thing I'm sure of is my sister is more artistic and creative in arranging flowers or just about anything. Perhaps, my new hobby will be taking care of the dogs. It's almost a year now since we got our first dog and now we have five in all. I'm not sure if I can call it a hobby, but what I have been doing for several weeks now is get into a routine with our dogs and I walk them as much as I can. I am liking it and the fact that it keeps me up and about than before. Walking my dogs may be more than a hobby for me but it is also a good exercise without realizing it. If I were to start on a new hobby maybe making accessories for my dogs will be one of the first things I would get my hands on. (^_^)

I used to just stuff my flowers in a vase and leave them like that. I have thought about arranging flowers before but the days haven't always been right, ie the day market is on is one of the days I work, good for buying flowers but not good to arrange them due to lack of time. But this week I decided to try and find time, very glad that I did. Good luck with your dogs, and hope you have very good fun with them and get fit walking them every day.

I've been doing fabric art. It's just weaving using a varitey of yarns. I did a little bit of weaving many years ago. So I restarted and it was fun.

I watch this program time to time. I think she got amazing ideas to make home more like home. I think people forget that plenty of things can be made by themselves. Its just to easy to buy everything instead of being engage with really creative work.

I totally agree with you. My house smells lovely with the smell of fresh flowers in it. Have been to buy some more oaosis ready for friday and some small pots to put the arrangemnets in. My twins can't wait until friday when I go to buy some more flowers... I can't wait either. I'm going ot do easy tea so I don't have to keep getting up to check on its cooking

I like photography a lot. Somehow, it has remained dormant or has been relegated to low priority for want of sufficient time. . Whenever I have had a chance to take a break from hectic work life and go back to nature, I have not missed the opportunity to exploit my latent skill. I am now finding more free time at least during week ends and short holiday periods. So I have got my Sony Cybershot camera all fit & ready and have started taking pictures to my heart's content. . The latest couple of posts on my blog demonstrate my photographic acumen. I hope I'll continue to get the time to indulge in my hobby more often. Wish your new hobby the best.

Glad that you like your hobby... hobbies are just hobbies not work so we must do hobbies when we want ot, not because we feel we should od them or feel pressured to do them if we haven't done them for a while. Its no good doing a hobby if its not fun. Hope you find lots of time to do your hobby

If you like to relax and watch television and that is your way to chill out then that is fine and not useless. Our telly is on alot during the day and evening but most of the time it is what we call background noise.. we have the telly on like you would the radio and I do my jobs while listening to the telly. Everyone is different and everyone has different hobbies

I am planning on starting an old hobby I haven't done for many years, namely crochet.. I want to crochet in the evenings when hubby is watching tv, as many of the shows he enjoys aren't all that interesting to me, so crochet will be handy to do sometimes of an evening.

I just can't get my flowers to look good when I arrange them, I mainly use vases, I buy a nice bunch of flowers that look lovely wrapped up in the shop paper but then when I put them in a vase they just look ordinary, I have a friend who always has flowers in her house and they always look so beautiful, I think maybe when it comes to vases one needs the right vase for the different flowers...I hope you take some photos of your arrangements so we can see your arrangements...

Thank you for your kind words, don't think I can get photos on here as I'm too pc thick. I'm quite pleased with the way my display went tonight. My daughter's was very good as well. I think next week I shall put more greeny in my display... so it must have gone well if I'm already planning next week's display. BUT.... my hobbies have been very short lived in the past so this hobby may only last a few weeks before I get bored etc!!LOL Get some oasis and have a go.

actually a friend gave me a few packets of these little purple balls which I think you can get in different colours, you put them in a bowl and put water in the bowl and the balls swell up looking like fish eggs and it helps the flowers stand up and keeps the water there and I believe it lasts about 12 months....my friend bought these packets for me because I love the colour purple, looks nice in a glass vase....
@Anne18 (11029)
12 Nov 11
That sounds real nice, I have some coloured gravel that I will put in my vases. Plus one of my vases came with glass peddles which looks good as well. I'm going ot get some ribbons etc to wrap round my oasis tomorrow plus some different shapes of oasis, just cheap stuff that I can put in the shed when and if I get fed up doing it or want to have a rest. NUT.... I'm looking forward to buying flowers next week to do some more arranging

The hobbies that I've got are hobbies that I've had for a long time. For example, I love to create scrapbook pages for my children and that is something that I work on almost on a daily basis. I also enjoy crocheting and I do that on a pretty regular basis as well. The new hobby that I would like to get into is sewing and I've actually put a sewing machine on my Christmas list because it is something that I want to be able to do. I doubt that I'll get the sewing machine for Christmas, but I do think that I should be able to get one sometime next year.
@Anne18 (11029)
15 Nov 11
Scrap booking, used ot do that in the old days when I was a child, but back then it was all different, we just cut up pictures out of christmas cards etc and paste them into a scrap book. all changed now hasn't it? good I think as well. I have never got the hang of crochet, I always get the lopps far too tight so it looks like knitting. My young daughter has a sewing machine, she has made a rag doll on it and some cushions, she is only 12. So glad that you enjoy your hobbies

Hi Anne. Yes, I do have a new hobby, which are not actually new. It was 10 years ago when I stopped biking. I stopped because I became so busy with work. But now that I reached my late 30's (shhhhh...hehehe), I noticed that it is harder to lose weight and return to my usual skinny figure. I decided to get back to cycling. I've broken my left feet and it aches when I run. So I guess I will not be able to run as fast as I was before. With cycling, I may be able to gain strength on my left leg again. The problem though is that I don't have a bike right now. I am setting aside a few bucks from my salary to buy a mountain bike. Hopefully, by January I'll have my own bike. Also, I intend to get back to playing guitar. I hope I can start composing songs again. I really just needed more time for this. Wish me luck!!! Have a great day!

Well I hope very much that you get your bike and you can start biking again. We used ot have an excercise bike in the house which was good as we could cylce while watching the telly. I like ot keep fit with the wiifit plus, its very good as you can do it when you have the time. I hope you also get back into playing your guitar, I can't play anything as I have no muical ear but I wish you luck and hope you get back into this as well. Please keep me up dated with how you get on. Hope you can lose your weight.. I lost mine by dieting and using the wiifit

Well that's great your family members share the same interest. Wish I could also have something that interests me and my family members. May I'm just too lazy for this.
@Anne18 (11029)
12 Nov 11
No you are not lazy, you just haven't found anything good idea yet. I wasn't sure anyone would want to join in with me, was pleased my little girl did, but she might get fed up quickly as children do. I'm over the moon that my youngest son wants to join in next week (he may change his mind by then) and he is looking forward to choosing oais tomorrow. Its good as he was watching the show as well and there was a man on there who arranged flowers and won lots of prizes so it proves it is a hobby for both sexs

Thank you so much my friend. My children are keen to go ot the shop tomorrow to choose bits and bobs ot go with next week's arranging and I shall plan to go into the garden to get some greenery to go in with the flowers. I think we are going ot do arrangments that can go against the walls of the house instead of all round ones. I'm going ot look for a book when I next go to the library to see what other ideas they say about. It was nice that the children want to do something like that with me, espically as they are now getting older and it does get harder sometimes trying ot get them to do things with me. Good job they like walking, as we can all do that together

Hi Anne. I did ceramics for 25 years. I learned to incorporate ceramic pieces along with wreaths and flowers to come up with new ideas that when I was at craft shows had not been seen. So I was very profitable. I also did a couple of weddings where I did the centerpieces for the tables and used the globe bowls. Now I enjoy cross stitching and knitting had to give up the ceramics. Got spinal desinegration

I also like all of you who have their own hobbies. My hobby now is I prefer to collect the book a novel. I want to make the book a novel as my personal collection. before, I just borrow books from friends or novel from the library only. Now, I started to get them myself. I would allocate some budget each month for me to buy the novel books. I now have 6 books that I collect novels in the past few months. Sometimes I will buy two or only one book in a month depending on the budget I had.

I used to have lots of novels and I used to have them all under the stairs on sheleves and call it my library. I have always wanted to have my own libaray. now with four children, three living at home there is no space. Hopefully I can collect books again at some time
