I had a lot of problems on one occassion when they had barely installed them at the Wal Mart near us and since then, I prefer to have the employees at the other registers check all the items I have.
Besides, that's what they get paid for.
Thanks

Wow this really surprises me. Many have responded differently than I would think people would. I for one do not like them at all. Everytime I see one all I can think of is the poor soul it replaced.

I use them whenever possible. My normal grocery store has it and it's great - if I have someone with me to do the bagging, but I don't use it if I'm alone and have a lot of stuff. The Home Depot here is almost all self-checkout. They rarely have anything else open.

I like them. they are convienant. It is frustrating though when you get behind someone who does not know how to use them.

I use them at the grocery store. It is best not to use them if you have coupons, a special item, or one that needs to be rung up manually. Then I use the regular checkouts. The self scans are pretty fast and easy to use I think.

As dixielol says above, it's very convenient when you need to use someone elses card. After my wife had our baby, I was constantly at the supermarket getting this and that, for which I often needed to use 'her' money. Since her account is still in her maiden name, the cashiers have a problem with a big guy like me using a card that has Miss *** ****** on it!
Using the self checkout is much easier than taking her card to the ATM and using cash in the shop.
