Tinapa - smoked fish

I love tinapa (smoked fish)! I love it dipped in vinegar or eaten with fresh tomatoes. I just had tinapa this morning partnered with fried rice with lots of garlic. What I just don't like in tinapa is its skin. The scale part which easily comes off when the tinapa is fried. I skin my tinapa first before I eat it. How about you?

Wow that's a yummy breakfast. But I haven't eaten tinapa for such a long time. I can't remember when was the last time I ate one. But whenever I eat smoked fish I use it even its skin only when the skin is not so thick and rough.

Your topic make me crave for that and fried rice for breakfast too. But because i don't have enough time to prepare them in the morning, i always settle for oatmeal, breads and coffee. I love eating tinapa. But our tinapa here in our province are not scaly. But if ever i am eating a scaly one, i see to it that i remove them also.

That's too bad! Maybe you can prepare them during days when you don't have work.

I don't eat the skin especially when bought in the market. But if it is home, sometimes the skin taste good, too. Tinapa is smoked and absorbed the smoke from burned materials, it is not safe to eat the skin when you are not sure what's used in smoking it.

I think we would be safe if we cook the tinapa first before eating it. Frying it in a hot pan will surely kill all the bacteria in the skin.

Um, it depends on the fish. Different kinds of fish are used in making tinapa and I eat the scale of some of them. Best partnered with kamatis and bagoong. ...and spicy fried rice.

Oh, I was talking about tamban tinapa. I don't eat the skin of smoked milkfish, too. Whengcat and ardoy mentioned smoked gg but I have never eaten one, and they said they can eat the skin of it. I'm sure I will, too since gg has a super thin skin with no scales.

I seldom or if ever eat the skin of fishes cause I think that is where most parasites lodge themselves but I know a lot of people who love the skin especially if it's fried to a crisp and my 9 year old daughter is no exception. I love tinapa or smoked fish usually herring on "palabok" ( a Philippine native noodle dish) but we have 2 versions of making it, when it's the "lug-lug" (saucy) style then that's the time we use tinapa

Hey... I know palabok and luglog!!! But I didn't know you can put tinapa on it. I have only eaten palabok and luglog with chicharon.

tinapa in "palabok" is a variant and it tastes very good but again it depends on who's eating it, "chicharon" or pork pops (crushed) is standard ingredient, again there are many ways to do it depending on what is available or in season, some put pork strips which I do not like and we do not do, some like it with squid but not everybody likes it and depends if its available, I love shrimps in palabok but don't know if every body does, our palabok seems to lean more on sea food like mussels and oysters, squid and shrimps if it's available or cheap depending on the season.

I eat tinapa and eat the skin as well. I do the same with tuyo, where I eat everything. Tan and I once ate tuyo for breakfast and he left behind the skin, the head, the spine, and the tail. 'You don't eat that?" I asked. He said no and seemed to be alarmed that I ate up the whole fish. Thing is, I grea up quite poor so basically I eat everything. Even now that my life is okay I never leave even one grain of rice on my plate. I eat everything that can be eaten. :-)

I think that's very practical way of living. We're not that rich and we eat tinapa and tuyo for viand once in a while but I just couldn't bring myself to eat the skin/scales. Even with tuyo, I skin it first before I eat it. I don't even eat the head and the bones. I save it for the dog, at least.

I must say that delicious. I don't like it's skin too. It's taste like plastic in my mouth. Just like you, I skin it first. But, I never had it for breakfast, I always serve it for dinner.

Well, we sometimes have tinapa over dinner, too. But it's usually during breakfast because it's best partnered with fried rice. Yum yum!

I usually eat tinapa and Its my favorite dish for breakfast. I usually dip it on a spicy vinegar cause it makes the taste of the fish very good and really makes mw eat a lot. I also eat the skin but sometimes when the skin is rough i usually get off to the fish and eat it. =)

Ah yeah. I think the key to enjoying tinapa is the condiment, and that's vinegar.

For me it depends on the type of smoked fish. If it's "tamban" I won't eat the skin because it's too thick and hard to eat but if it is "gg" I will definitely consume it all especially when crispy fried

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned what kind of tinapa it was. It was tamban. I also don't eat the skin of smoked milkfish. I have never seen nor heard of smoked gg. But I'm sure even its skin will be eaten since it has no scales.

I do too! Especially when it's newly-hot and cooked....and crispy of course. My only exception is when it's Tinapang Tilapia.

I have never eaten smoked tilapia. I don't eat its skin when it's grilled so I'm probably sure I won't eat its skin, too if smoked.

I eat the skin and have it dipped in a vinegar with chili. I love it specially with a hot steamed rice. Of course tomato is always a part of that smoked fish on the table

I do eat most fish skins, only if the fish is deep fried.. lol :D IF not, i won't touch them at all as it has a slimy taste to it or some weird taste which induce a vomit feeling in me I know skin fish is good for us, but if i'm not able to get over the taste, i will never get to enjoy the benefits of it.. hehe ^^ BUT there's one kind of smoked fish that i like, Smoked Salmon.. lol :D That's without skin.. haha
