One word = YOU

Weeks ago I had a teaching demonstration and was interviewed by a panel. I was able to spontaneously answer them until I got the last question which is, "In one word, describe yourself and why?" I was actually dumbfounded by the question. Of all the questions, why that? why just in one word? I find it difficult with all honesty. If you were in my case, how would you answer that question?

Funny - on another writing site I belong to - Gather - one of the writing prompts two weeks ago was to describe yourself in one word. I used the word "me" - and then wrote:
Me. There's only one word to describe myself: ME.No one else is ME. Someone else may be similar to me in looks and personality. But even if I had an identical twin she wouldn't be ME. One adjective alone wouldn't be sufficient to describe Me - my looks, personality. My being. For one thing, what makes ME uniquely ME - the essence - is something intangible, unknown - not only to myself; to others, as well. Others may try to describe me, but that is the ME known to them. It's the part of me I allow another to see. There are plenty of words to describe me in terms of what is seen and known - wife, mother, cat owned. Fifty-five years old. Female, long brownish red hair with a few strands of grey interwoven. Five foot two, brown eyes, slender build. How would one take a single word from that to describe ME? What about my personality? At times quiet, serious, studious; other times I'm silly, anxious, hopeful, depressed, peaceful...Fun loving, mostly. Hard working, always. Am I what I feel? Then I'm more than one word. My feelings range from peaceful and secure to anxious and worried about the future. From devil may care to very concise, precise, and detail oriented.
I'm not at all who I once was; yet all I once was is contained in who I am now. Once, I was a child - shy, insecure, unhappy, and fearful mostly. Yet, I could find freedom in riding my bike far, far away, pedaling as fast as I could. Going to the beach always brought out a sense of peace in me, even when the waves were turbulent. As a teen I was more of the same, but somewhere between seventeen, when I first left home, and twenty-four, when I started college, these trait changed. Somewhere between graduation and having my second child ten years later, my traits changed even more. And somewhere between the time I realized my baby was a teenager and now, my traits have once more transformed.
Am I different? No. Am I the same? No. I am ME. Indescribable yet describable. Indescribable in the ever changing; describable in what holds steady.

I love your answer. I'm taking note of your answer because I have never thought of it and it is the best that I have encountered. There are a lot of words that I could link to myself but I guess "ME" is the summary of it. There is no other me than me and there could never be someone like me except me.
Thank you! Happy Mylotting and GOD BLESS ^_^

Multifaceted is the word!
Definition: Having many faces or aspects.
Then it leaves it open for the ... and why ... part.
Choose your top three best aspects.
I consider myself as multifaceted because it's hard to sum myself up in one single aspect. I'm so much more than that. Honorable, kind, caring, a hardworker, etc.

Multifaceted is a good word.
It's like a summary of YOU.
Thanks and Happy Mylotting ^_^

Same here but I think it's not enough to describe myself. ^_^

i think that is difficult.
we are complex creature, not a creature that can be described wuth just one word.
if the question is for me, i would answer "unique"
because, all oh creature in this world is unique,
you cant find in this world same creatures.
there must be a different and uniqueness.
i think with that word, it have describe me at all.
simple answer and true.

The first thing that came to my mind when I'm asked to describe myself is 'CRAZY'
Many people accuse me of being one, even though i never did anything THAT crazy. Anyway, it's odd how my friends call me that and still make me see it as a way of showing their affection to me.
But in this case, describing yourself as crazy in front of the panel for a job is not ideal.
Hardworking would be a good word. Honest. Innovative. Unique(it's cliche i think)

I always hated that question. I can`t describe myself with one word and never thought about it. I have several good and bad traits as a human being and I dont think they have made up a word to sum them all up. I might have asked the interviewer what does he think based on the interview.

Hi5! We're the same. I also have a difficulty in describing myself in one word. Actually, when the interviewer asked me about the question, I was shocked. I even asked that , is this Ms. Universe Question and Answer portion and they all laughed. ^_^

Although many people here gave you good answers, I know that I could never answer that question in one word. In fact, I could not answer it in a short sentence. From my point of view, it is even a lack of respect to put it that way, instead of saying something such as "do it as short as you can". Besides, if you have to answer "why", you have to use more than one word.

Me? I can't describe myself in one word. It's too difficult you know. How bout you? How would you answer that question, if you were in my situation?
