I was reading a certain article on the Jobilee and stunned to the very origin of the celebration: every 50th year, the Israelites (for that whole year) should rest the land; any fruits of the land should not be harvested and let them fall to the earth; any man/woman made slave should be freed and all debts should be cancelled. There was this principle of sharing all things in common and everyone should not possess more than he/she needs. Is this essence of Jobilee applicable in our contemporary and technological era?

hi there.. by the spirit of goodwill and morality...YES.. we deprive somebody when we possess something in excess. luxury benefits the self but deprives the other even if you earn it by hard work. Have you included the other in your hard work?

jonas and ginrue, thank you so much for your opinions. But the thing is, do we have to include the other in our personal struggle in life? Our life is so personal that nobody has no right to invade its privacy. That in the struggle to improve one's lifestyle, everyone is obliged to satisfy his self according to the rules imposed by the community. Further, if one includes the other in his personal quest, who will include him to whose quest?
