What recipes can you make with recycled food?

It's kind of weird to read 'recycled' food but rather think about it as leftover food that you are going to redo as another recipe. There are times when our refrigerator is empty with fresh ingredients and I usually invent another recipe from leftovers in order not to waste the food. For example, if we have fried fish for leftovers, what I'd do is strip off the fish meat and cook it with fresh vegetables that we can pick from our yard. Just like 'malunggay' it's like a bigger version of a clover leaf but it's a green leafy vegetable in the Philippines, and saute it with garlic, onion, and ginger. I'd add a little soy sauce, with salt and pepper, and about a cup of water to have a little bit of soup. And then viola!, we dine with a new version of fried fish...(^_^) What are your other recipes that you can make from leftover/recycled food?

All kinds of. You can fill your pancakes, pizza, baked egg with it. You can also make a pie and fill it with the left overs from vegetables, egg, meat, potatoes etc. I have to admit that if my cupboard is empty I am way more creative as when I go to the shop and have to think out what to cook next.

I wish I knew how to make pies! That would really be a great recipe for leftovers! I agree that you really have to be creative in coming up with the next recipe. My family members are my critics whenever I cook them something new and out of the ordinary recipe...I'm glad that they put up with my cooking too! lol (^_^)

@ kitty and bee, that pie is called "empanada" here in the Philippines. That's really good for the leftover veggies. :-)

If we have chicken leftovers,i usually make chicken spread,we can eat it with bread or with leftover veggies. If we have pork ,i always make soups out of it or sautee' it with veggies like Sayote,Cabbage, tofu, beans and carrots. Veggies and leftover fish are also good,we always do that with Papaya and Malunggay. Sometimes if we have Chopseuy lefties,Pancit canton will be the best. :-D

I never throw out food. Well, almost never. Leftover meat is used in soup or casseroles, meat pies or sandwiches and leftover vegetables are used the same way. If I don't have enough leftovers to make a new meal from, I put them in the freezer and add to them. For instance, I have a special container where I put the last teaspoon of corn, or a few green beans or a slice of tomato. When it's full, I dump it into a pot, add meat (that I've saved the same way) and there is soup or a meat pie. I sometimes keep certain types of leftovers separate for special dishes like broccoli and cauliflower. I add greens, cured meat and cheese for a soup that everyone likes.

Wow! I can just imagine how organized you are and no waste at all too! Aren't freezers very helpful in keeping our food unspoiled for as long as we can? I'd like to do the same thing about having a special container for the tiny portion of leftovers that can be recycled as soups and casseroles! Great idea! (^_^)

Not so organized! It's just that I've developed the habit of saving everything and found a method that works. Freezers are very helpful!

I don´t waste ANY leftover. And, as you say, mostly I recycle. I don´t like to eat the same food over and over, but I use leftvers for omelettes of all sorts, I put leftover cooked or roasted meat in vegetable soups of sauces (depending on the meat). I have a small vegetable garden and, depending on the time of the year, I steal some herbs to add to the dishes to make them better. I have chives in a container and cut them to add to an omelelle made with a little leftover rice, a couple of eggs and some diced cheese if I have some. I do the same with leftover pasta.

I tend to make omelettes with leftover foods too! (^_^) It's very economical to think of other recipes without having to waste food! To think that there are many people and especially children everywhere in the world who doesn't have enough food to eat. I should be more diligent on keeping a vegetable garden because it does help out a lot with being able to save money and being organic if we grow our own vegetables.

If we have leftover lechon, we cook it as paksiw or we fry it or make it as the meat with vegetables. and if we have fried fish from a previous meal, we cook it as Escabeche.

hahaha we usually keep half or 1/4 of the lechon for the next day since we still have guests on that day and they love to have it fried or to be as paksiw. haha my parents usually have 2-3 lechons because a lot people go to our house if there are parties. its crazy!
