How much work should we all do for charity when there are so many unemployed. Does doing work for charity help or hinder the unemployment situation or does it have no effect but make others lives more interesting or better because the work done by charitable organisations. Would this work not get done if people didn't give their time for free.

There is very limited work charity organization can do to help in time of high unemployment, since many of them also depend on ordinary people for donation for their food warehouse and fund. Very small number of local unemployed may get to have few free meals for short period of time, the only real solution to the rising joblessness can only be solved thro' a caring government having good economy policy that not only expand the nation's economic pie but distribute the wealth fairly and equally among all citizenry.

Of course Robin Hood style of robbery is not right, but having a fair tax system that demand tax contribution from the rich and the less wealthy is necessary for government to govern a nation effectively. Robin Hood gave away his stolen money from every rich folk to the poor is despicable in the eye of many poor, most of them don't believe taking stolen money from the rich is a honorable way of life, except just a few of the lazy one.

Would that mean bringing in a Robin Hood type tax, which is taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Just thought then you might not have heard of Robin Hood, if that is the case and you don't get the point let me know and I will fill you in .

What has been proposed is a very small tax on every transaction by large organisations this would be financial institutions and since there are millions of these transactions it would accrue quite an income for little pain, virtually no pain at all. If this is not acceptable what would you suggest lamps.

There are a number of charity organizations helping needy people in different parts of the world. They are doing excellent jobs to reach out to the people. I often make donations to those organizations. Right today, I made a donation to the Salvation Army.

We tend to donate to the Salvation Army during the Christmas period as they do so much to help house and feed the homeless. It's good to know that at least some of the homeless in our area will have a meal at Christmas time.

I have discussed this many times, as I used to volunteer at a local Nursing Home but I said right from the start that I would not volunteer my time on a stated regular basis as some of the other volunteers would do, my reason for that is when the people who run the nursing home take it for granted that a volunteer was coming in they would not have as much staff on that day so as far as I am concerned that is affecting someones paid work...

What good reply you must have been waiting for me to post this one. I was an engineer for 39 years, I retired early, then I worked as an handyman in a nursing home and the same situation worked there. They would only have enough staff to cover legislation and if they had a volunteer come in they would cut the staff by one.

I am working with charity institution for almost 14 years now and I am enjoying it. I love the feeling when unknown people say thanks, and elder ones give us a hug. I like when kids hold my hands and seems no wanting to let me go. It's happy and sad - mixed emotions but worth giving.

There's no better feeling than being thanked for giving freely.

It's a bad thing as unemployment, without a shadow of doubt. However I emphasize that do works of charity towards others, is a very valuable and prestigious. So we must all within the limits of our ability, always helping those in difficulty.

If we do it as lilacady suggested not a regular basis then maybe that way we do our bit to help those in need without taking someones employment.
