I have been diagnosed with border line high blood pressure-140/90. I was prescribed lozartan potassium tablets. I eat the tablets and also completely avoid extra salt during meals. I got dizziness two days back when I also ate pineapple-a my lot discussion said it was good to reduce pressure. Do any my lotters have high BP and how do you manage your diet? I have started using oats also. Is it good?

I don't have it but yes pineapple is good to lower the blood pressure, just don't know why you got dizzy with it. Maybe you are not taking the proper medications. For me having a low blood, pineapple makes me really dizzy if I drink its pure juice. Try reading this maybe it can help you with your high blood pressure (no referral links)

And yes, oats is good too.

thanks zandi!
dear sree, I think you should ask your doctor first about it. My mom drinks pineapple juice even when she's taking the medicines everyday. She already has maintenance for quite a long year.

Most of the people around me have high blood pressure. I regularly check my blood pressure cause even if I'm slim, there's a tendency that it will become high, you know, it runs in the family. I have started choosing what I eat, I avoid salty and fatty foods, I try to relax once in a while although it is hard to not be stressed from day to day worries and work, and I still have to manage my time so that I could do some 30 minutes or so exercises daily. Exercise and good diet are good for the heart, and if the heart is healthy, the blood pressure is normal. Stay healthy, sreekutty!

I also have controlled hypertension. I take amvasc every day. I This is the latest pill that my doctor prescribed. I was also prescribed pills for my high cholesterol level. I eat little rice only. I don't know about the contents of oats but I eat oats in the morning also as advised by my doctor but not every day.

I am not possessed by high blood pressure, but I always maintain my diet by eating less meat especially goat meat. The other thing is increase my intake of fruit and vegetables. Oat is good, but it is expensive in my country, so some times I add whole wheat cookies or bread to my diet. I also reduce my carbohydrates intake, since I am still overweight (although I am almost vegan)

I once tested and got a blood pressure of 130/90. The doctor said it's already a mild blood pressure. Anything more than 13/90 is already classified as high blood pressure. Mine was due to my sudden weight gain. So I reduced my food intake and started loosing some pounds and I was able to get a 120/80 blood pressure in 1 week. I heard that salt really affects our blood pressure. The more salt you take, the more water you body absorbs and the more pressure need for you heart to pump.

I too have high B.P. and I take Nebicard-H for this. DO not worry; this is a very common thing. Are you very young?[less than 30 or 35]; EVen thenyou need not worry.
One thing you must remember is to take the BP medicine at the same time preferably in the morning every day; long walks are advised and refrain from pickles and papad.Once in a while you can have it .SImilarly go slow on fried food. Oats is definitely good because it has high fibre content.
Have 3 raw small onions and three garlic petals every day with food. This is very good. Meditiation and breathing exercise are also supposed to be good .

Since my first born child I have been suffering from high blood pressure. And for the last 29 years I have been popping bp pills. Nothing seems to have changed and according to the doctor once you are taking bp pills it will be a lifelong commitment. I am seeing my doctor regularly to monitor my blood pressure and to get my new stock of pills once a month. The problem with me is I like good foods and this is where it all started. You should check with your doctor if you experience dizziness as it might be the pills not suited with you.

I don't have a high blood pressure. Fortunately so far my blood pressure is normal. You are right, you shall have light food and avoid the salty food. Try to have a healthy diet and do some exercises. It will be helpful for your blood pressure. My parents all have high blood pressure and fortunately it is not so serious.

I actually suffer from low blood pressure for which there is no regular medication. But when I am under a lot of stress my pressure shoots up and then I have to take medications to bring the pressure down. This is really dangerous and doctor has strictly advised me not to take too much of stress as that can be fatal for me.

good day sreekutty,
with reference to your main topic discussion, try to take a little bit of garlic. as this food is already proven in curing high blood pressures. aside from that, please refrain from eating salty foods as this will bring a high result of cholesterol in the body which leads to a high blood pressure. lastly, drink a lot of water, no juices, no cola, as only water. if you are already taking a lot of water, try to have it 10 glasses a day. then, try to have a routine exercise.
from that above, you will somehow normalize your blood pressure. and will also help you to have your diet.

I am rather lucky not to have high blood pressure all things considered. Especially considering it runs in my family. Especially with the men on my side of the family. And it does occur fairly early in life. Granted, it could still rather develop more often than not, but I really do hope that it is going to be something that I never really do have to deal with. Because I'm not all that fond of taking medication and that's one of the times where you have to.
So yeah, no high blood pressure for me. Nothing more strange than the ordinary run of the mill stress that many people do have to deal with. Given that it runs in my family as I said, I feel fortunate. Of course, that fortune could change but crossing my fingers that it really does not. It's just one of those things where it might seem inevitable but for the present, not present.

Hi sree,
We have stocks of Del monte pineapple juice here in our house because my Mom and Dad has high blood pressure. They were prescribed lozartan also and morvas10.
Oat meal is also good but my mom and dad don't eat oatmeal. My dad is on a strict diet,he dont eat pork, beef, chicken, goats meat and others,he only has fruits and vegetable and fish.
Banana is also good at least 2 bananas a day.
and oh,you may want to try mixing minced garlic, uncooked,to your hot rice.
That works better, smells bad but i think brushing your teeth can take good care of the bad smell brought to you by eating uncooked garlic. :-)

thank you dear, do they feel dizzy if they take pineapple and medicines and garlic, want to know before trying it, my husband says dizziness is due to lowered BP because of medicines also.

its because pineapple and medicine takes effect faster than necessary , remember from high to relatively low.It is like riding in a Ferris wheel after going up you'll go down fast. How do you think you will feel??Right??
That is why , after drinking medicine or pineapple or taking garlic they just stay in their seats.Exercising only their hands and foot but not walking.
