If you only have $5,000 to have the wedding of your dreams how would you make it happen? What areas would you spend your money on? Give me details of center pieces, colors, dress ideas, d.j. or a band? Limo or not? I can't wait to hear your ideas!

I will get married in December and I don't need that much money for it at all. I will get married abroad, have my dresses, etc. I would not spend that money (or should I say waste?) on a big spender party for family and friends. I would take a very long break/holiday somewhere where nobody can disturb me as long as possible. I don't care about luxury just about rest, peace, no stress and a lots of sun, heath. So no limo (any car is fine), my dress is emerald green (can show it to you if you are really interested), chain and earrings I bought abroad (agains allergies green as well), we will have music outside, party outside, food (bbq) outside, whole village is welcome to celebrate. Who knows we will even have a wedding cake (not common over there and I doubt if it's smart with the high temp as well).

Thanks for your response. It's cool to have a unique wedding in a unique -place. To each their own when it comes to spending. In the U.S. it's more common to spend between $10,000 - $20.000 in your wedding day! Hope your day is very special!

Honestly, I don't think I will ever get married for philosophical reasons, but this situation would be a great time to get creative and personalize your wedding so that it sticks out and is still classy. First, cut out as many of the seriously expensive things as possible. It would be important to NOT go into debt over the event and spend most of the money on your reception and honeymoon so that you and your guests can focus on having a good time. So, no limo, no DJ or band (unless they are a friend or family member that is talented and needs publicity), no wedding hall, and a small amount of guests. An alternative location for the reception and ceremony, like a recreational park or large family property, preferably with flowers growing there to eliminate the need to buy them. Some kind of retro theme, maybe, cool, funky clothing for the bridal party that you can get at a second hand shop. Or, old second hand prom dresses that can be refurbished. Food for center pieces to combine the cost of center pieces with appetizers. Arrange them nicely. Ummmmm, oh back to the music, if no DJ or Band, then make your own mix cds with favorite songs, or use a computer or ipod with a lot of your favorite music on it. Instead of a limo, see if one of your friends or family members has a sweet old hot rod or classic car they would be willing to loan or drive you in. Similarly, if someone has horses you could see about using them. There are a lot of ways to make it work.

Thanks for your ideas! There are a lot of good ones. I never thought about food as a center piece nice idea!
