This fruit is a vine. It is colored dark yellow when it is already ripe and its taste is a mixture of sweet and sour , yet so delicious. The fruits when ripe just falls from the vine. When we were younger we have lots of these in our backyard and we would always get a lot of them, slice it and put some bit of salt and eat it. Our mom would sometimes make it into juice. As shown on Jessica Soho's show last Saturday, in Taysan , Batangas, they have a plantation of these fruits. They export it abroad. It is made into a puree and jam and are said to be so delicious. They call this Mirinda, which we call it also as such here in our province. But with this TV show, it was shown that some chefs makes salad dressing using them. Then , some make them into wine. Amazing fruit indeed!

So you watched the passion fruit being discussed in Jessica Soho's TV show. I would like to comment that I was once an employee of the company they featured in the show. The company orders passion fruit by the ton and makes all efforts to encourage farmers in Quezon,Batangas and Cavite to plant passion fruits. The company used to offer incentives to the farmers through the Agricultural Development Section of the company. The passion fruit is made into puree and concentrate like mangoes and guyabano and exported to neighboring Asian countries and of course the US. The company executive they interviewed in the show is my present employer though on his personal company. Attention is now being focused on the passion fruit because this juice has a lucrative market abroad. From one vine, you can harvest a lot of fruits and the cultivation process is easy. We have a passion fruit vine in the garden which serves as a reminder of the company I used to work for. I get my Vitamin C daily supply from this vine.

So, when you were one of the employees of that company, i presume you get a discount on your products? I haven't seen a passion fruit puree in our supermarkets here in the province. I wish to try one. At least, you have a daily source of vitamin C in your garden.

So that explains why there are no passion fruit purees in supermarkets.

No discounts. The finished product is packed in 225 kilo containers though sometimes when there are company activities, we have some free unlimited juice to go around for all the employees. Most still prefer the mango juice and the calamansi juice which the company also is into. The company has no local market so there are no packed juices on the supermarts. It is exclusive for exports.

It's a rare fruit indeed shane. It is not typically sold in supermarkets, because usually the growers or plantations exports them abroad. if you are fond o eating oranges and somewhat sour but sweet fruit, you will surely like it. It will take you , so many fruits like maybe 10 , for you to get full with it.

Actually, our vine of that has already dried out. My mother is trying to plant passion fruit again. Hopefully, it will flourish , so i could eat one again. As to plantations, as what Jessica Sogo has said, they have one in a place i forgot, i think it's Laguna or Batangas. Sure, maybe someday you could visit our province too, just as i would like to someday to visit your place. Let's be the hosts of each other when that happens.

unfortunately the climate of the country i live in makes it impossible to grow passion fruits outside, however during the summer the shops near where i live sell them, and they are very nice to eat, if a little messy! many fruits are available all year round now, but i have noticed that here in the UK passion fruits seem to be only available in the summer, but i have noticed this because i like them and miss them when i can't buy them.

It was said though on the show by the owner of the plantation, that passion fruit is good for all weather. But of course too much rain can ruin plants also. I miss eating passion fruit because our vines of it dried out as we were already in high school. And it seems that in the market they don't sell them. Anyway, when i visit our hometown, i will ask my mother if we can regrow one again.

Yes I had seen it in one of the cooking shows I guess MasterChef. I guess it is not about the taste but the flavor of it.

My friend, what do you mean it is not about the taste but the flavor? Could you clarify please, because as i understand taste and flavor means the same thing.

Yes passion fruit is very rare and is not a main stream fruit. Its very rare to see this kind of fruit but some neighbors of mine have grown their own (since i live in ab tropical country Philippines to be exact). The fruit has a mild sweetness with an acidic yet tangy flavor. The aroma of the fruit is very exotic you can actually make it to wonderful dessert(cant wait for them to be around)you can make them into passion fruit cheesecake, Trifle, juice and etc.

Passion fruit cheesecake? You make me salivate with that! Yes, passion fruit has a unique taste indeed, so different from the usual fruits. Eating it as is , makes you seem to wink out of its acidic yet deliciously sweet and juicy taste. Indeed lots could be made out of this fruit, as showcased in Jessica Soho's tv program.

Amazing fruit indeed! I haven't watched it though since I got home really late these past few days. I just noticed you are some sort of like a "patriotic" person. Your recent posts just focused on the Philippines. Our country. And it's really nice hearing so many great tales of our place from you.

So, you haven't tasted one yet? Well, i think you better try to taste one. It's delicious to eat indeed. You can either put a bit of sugar or a bit of salt. It's actually full of vitamin C, it being a bit sour.
