I am really interested in donating some money to help children get the cleft surgeries they need, but I am not sure what is a really good one. I don't want to pay the salary of a greedy CEO, I want to help some kids. I am wondering if Operation Smile is a good one. I know that it is pretty popular, but I don't know just how honest they are or how much of the money actually goes to the cause. I tried looking it up on Charity Navigator, but returned no results. I looked up Smile Train, but only saw negative reviews. Does anyone know of any good charities for this cause? Are there any other websites out there like Charity Navigator that can help me find a good charity? Any suggestions or ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.

This is truly the problem in donating to organized charities. Even if one's intentions are good the funds we try to make available land in the hands of people who would deploy them, for purposes other than intended. I stopped donating to one particular charity after hearing that the funds are being siphoned off. Government, Corporates, NGO's, Religious Institutions - name them all are corrupt. How to see that any good intention reaches the right individual!? In fact even I would like to watch what the answers to your discussion would be!
