It gives a measurable and comparable answer which just asking "what side are you on?" does not. An American might claim that they are 'liberal' or a 'Democrat' but, on that scale, they could be seen to be very far to the 'right' of most British Conservatives.
The site also gives a 'best guess' rating for many political figures - both contemporary and historical.

Since you are also from the UK, here are the ratings for the UK political parties in 2010.

Left v right is an illusion. It is a false divide. Both terms have lost all original meaning in this country and are sometimes confused for one another. I describe myself as a sensible libertarian (ok folks, no smartass remarks about there being no such animal) who expects and desires VERY LITTLE from my government.

I would agree that 'left' and 'right' are too unspecific and subjective (or do I mean objective?) to be of any real value. That is why the three dimensional space of the 'Political Spectrum' site with its actual score placement is much more useful.
To be sure, it is not perfect or complete and ought really to rely on a far larger number of questions and, perhaps, more than just two dimensions, but it does go a long way towards placing ideologies on a map so that they can be compared.

I am sorry, sometimes I don't really understand the definition of left wing or right wing of political spectrum as you described on your title. Can you described it more so I can understand it? I am not interest in politics, and I hope that I will find something that I can study about it, and probably I will develop some interest in it.

'Right' and 'Left' are not the ONLY criteria!
Hitler and Stalin, in the end, had quite a lot in common.

I am a Libertarian and don't see myself as being anywhere on this sort of spectrum as I am far more opposed to a statist situation which would make me against both the Republicans and the Democrats in this case I guess but as X said this is a false divide to get us into a us vs them sort of thinking which is completely false because it is more of the ideas which should be debated in an open forum where they can be challenged and ideas molded as the clay they are.
