I miss anime

When I was about 9 years old, a teacher introduced me to anime. Ever since, I loved anime. Though nowadays, i don't watch anime as i often as i watched them before. Growing up, I was called a weirdo for my animated way of speaking and my other antics. I've grown so attached to anime that somehow i don't know how to act and speak like a typical person. (they aren't any normal people, just typical=not as unique as they think=my opinion only=you can either disagree or agree with me)
In college, i started to move on and be around more often socially, leaving my anime fanatic life behind. Now, as I think about all those days where i could be happy just sitting and watching anime series on television, I feel nostalgic. Back then I had no problems. I could imagine any animated story in mind to keep myself entertained through the day. Life was simple and pleasant. But then I had to grow up.
Uh, sentimental ain't I? Well, I think I've said enough. I miss anime, that's it!
Do you feel the same way I do? are you still an anime fanatic? will be an anime fanatic for the rest of your life?
i don't think i can ever be away from anime completely. It marks my childhood, a time i always look back to with a silly grin on my face.
How about you?

Hello Aja!
Reading your discussion, I am very impressed with your good command of English language.
Anyway, I am intrigued about your "animated way of speaking and antics". I haven't encountered anyone who speaks and moves like an anime (if you ever meant literally otherwise I am lost with what you mean). There are people who look like anime because of their hair colors and the way they put on make up and how they clothe themselves. But never have I met someone that fits your above description. It makes me curious.
^_^ Good day!

You're very welcome Aja!
I used to work at Nihongo Center Foundation (Japanese language school) and there are many students who are anime fanatics. I think I understand now what you are saying as I remember these students. They way they speak, the way they carry themselves. Anime bug is all over my work place. How I miss working there...

Woah! That definitely is a very interesting work place. I wonder why you left?
Are you Japanese? Japanese is one of the hardest language to learn, but being an anime fanatic would make it easier and pleasurable to learn. XD

Hi, girl_thinking! ;)
Eh? My english language? Really? Thanks, ehehe. You're not so bad yourself.
I bet we would get along with each other if we ever meet. When I was younger, people point at me and say 'that crazy anime girl is at it again' or something like that. Some even befriend me because of that. When i entered high school, i had to suppress this habit because people tease me for being a weirdo.
I don't look like an anime physically. Maybe some aspects of me, that only those who accuse me to possess this 'anime fanatic virus' would be able to explain. Err,, it's probably because of my gestures and the tone of my voice. Plus my eyes are kinda big.

Oh, how into anime I used to be. I'd gobble up practically every series I could get my kid hands on and it was glorious. I haven't really been very into anime lately - the most recent was Durarara!! last year when it was running in Japan - mainly because a lot of plots feel so ... not as great as they used to be? Maybe it's my nostalgia filters influencing my views, but nowadays I don't find anime as good as it used to be. I keep up with a couple of manga nowadays and if a series seems interesting enough I'll try and make note to watch it, but college and trying to socialize take up a lot of my time.
(I still have a crazy love for Sailor Moon though because it's amazing and I will never not love it.)

So right! We have to think like adults or else we'll be exploited, or we won't be able to take care of ourselves and of others. If we don't set our goals right, we become lost. Occasionally, I believe, we have to indulge in our inner child as you say. Being an adult always drives me crazy.
Woah, you watched all of them? Do you know of a website where i can see them? so far, i've only found kiki's delivery service, howl's moving castle, castle in the sky, spirited away and... princess mononoke!

Something's off about the anime they have nowadays, right? It's just different from back then. Simple plots and simple characters amuse us, now they annoy us.
Have you watched Miyazaki's anime movies? Those were the kind of anime that you won't ever forget. There is something nostalgic and magical feeling when you watch his movies. Of that, I don't have a doubt. Everyone here ought to watch one of his movies at least, you'll understand what i mean.
College and socializing? I got into that also, because it was more important to focus on reality than dwell on childish anime fantasies. -sigh- it was a little hard to do, but it had to be done...

I guess that's all part of growing up and moving on in life to face reality. I still indulge my inner child sometimes, but as I push myself out into the adult world it's becoming harder to make time to do that.
Miyazaki movies are amazing! I've watched every single one and they're all glorious. It's like being a kid all over again, they just draw me in so well into their plots. There's a charm in them that I can't deny. I have to admit, though, I don't think I'll ever give Grave of the Fireflies a second watch. It's a hard-hitter.

I used to love anime before but I have grown out of it as I age. The only anime I like watching until now is Detective Conan. It always fascinates me on how Shinichi solves all those crimes and how sharp his critical thinking is. I read it's manga until now.
I have a cousin who is also into anime. She is older than me and until now she is a certified otaku. She even joins cosplays when she has the time.

I love Detective Conan too! I used to hurry home from my night shift job just to watch Doraemon and Detective Conan in channel 7! =)
Other anime that I love are Twin Spica, ROD, Love Hina, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, etc....

Yes, anime was very good and it changed my life too. My childhood is filled with varieties of anime. Even now i am still watching anime and i doubt i can leave anime in the near time. Watching anime alone was a pleasant experience for me but sometimes i do feel a little lonely because no one of my friends who like to watch anime anymore. When i was a kid i will watch anime and then talks about it with my friends who also watched it too. Now it never happen anymore, but thats okay as long as i can still watching my favorites anime i can still be happy.

Well, i know making otaku friend would be awesome. The problem is it's hard to find it at my city because my city never held this kind activities like cosplays. I do have some otaku friends but they already not a fans of anime anymore these days. But i still can many otaku friends here at mylot right... ^_^

Exactly! When your friends are not into anime anymore, you could always meet new ones. That's too bad, cosplays are great places to fish for otaku friends.
I think you'll have to make high school friends, they still have time to be otakus. XD Not like adults who have many other things to worry about and have no more time for anime.
Otaku friends on mylot? Of course, it's why i set up this thread in the first place. To lure more otaku friends. XD

Word of advice: make a lot of otaku friends! You'll never feel lonely again. Use your otaku instincts to find them.
I used this otaku radar/instinct of mine and spotted a classmate who was very good at drawing. We became very good friends. We still hang out, in fact, we plan to go out somewhere tomorrow.
The amazing thing about being an anime fanatic is that we easily get close to those people who are anime fanatics, as well. XD
You can find those otakus at cosplays! They're friendly people, you just have to puck up the courage to talk to them first.

I attend the university but I still see some anime ... who should decide whether or not we have grown up? If you spend less time on mylot you would have more time for anime xD. (Of course I'm kidding ...)Anyway just try to do everything in moderation and not become obsessed.

LOL, don't worry Leon, i understand what you mean. But i have to be here because of the money XD
Okay, I'll try to do as you say... though i think it's far too late, I'm already obsessed.

Based on your number of post, you will find it hard to earn at first. You keep posting, be active. It's way better if you are fast at typing, because in mylot you have to type a lot. the more you type, the more you earn.
And being rewarded for watching anime? If you happen to find any website that offer you money by watching anime, tell me right away. XD

I'm a lot older and still watch anime. The type of anime is different though. I'm more into shoujo type relationship anime (weird, because I'm a guy). I just don't normally get into tournament fighting shounen anime. I dislike 'cutesy' anime though. I just wouldn't feel comfortable watching those types. The exception is Azumanga Daioh. I'll always love that one.

well, that makes me wonder too, lifeongoing. Why you like shoujo when most guys would go for mainstream anime with all the characters trying to beat each other up, But that's okay, I won't judge you for what you like.

Some characters can beat each other up, just not that being the main point of the anime. An example would be like Fate Stay Night, Vampire Knight, Spice & Wolf etc. I even like some heavy action ones as long as the plot is good. I thought Last Exile was fantastic. Well, I've taken up enough of your time: thanks for the topic.

Maybe it is a bad influence at times. You'll never be able to appreciate the good things about anime if you don't try to watch it and grasp what the anime is trying to send out to its audience. Some animes are meaningful, they even provide you wisdom that you will most likely remember for life. ;)

Those antics come out when I'm around otaku friends who I am not afraid to be myself. I'm different when i'm with non-otaku people, i keep myself low profile so they wouldn't call me weird so in the end, they label be as the boring weirdo or something like that. My friends understand me for my behavior. They're great people, probably more crazy than i am.

Do I miss anime?
YES I DO!!!!!!
Me and my amigos grew up watching Dragon Ball Z and BeyBlade and we still discuss it in our free time. Also once in a while I drop by on youtube and watch a couple of videos when I'm feeling nostalgic. We were crazy about anime. Although I must say anime has lost the quality it had earlier.

Haha! Same here, I loved trunks from DBZ and kai from beyblade. Uh -blush- sorry, fangirl goin' crazy.
That's the thing, the new anime they show now aren't as good anymore. Does it have something to do with our growing out of it? They are supposed to have better graphics and special effects, high-tech, why did the anime quality go down??? Must be because of those lame typical stories they have.

I used to watch animated series too. From Ghost fighter, flame of recca, and many more. Now, I am so addicted to bleach and naruto. I love the story of Naruto in particular because it tackle the topic friendship. I find it interesting as to how will it ends.

I watched the same old animes you mentioned! Ghost fighter and flame of recca were so cool back then.
Naruto? Ah, i want to know whether sasuke will die in the end or turn good. I'm voting that he'll die. Anyway, naruto will probably use this amazing and unique skill to turn even the most awful enemies into good people, then Sasuke might be spared. Or maybe sasuke will jump off a cliff or kill himself some other way...
LOL. who knows?

Yes, it's not something to be ashamed of. In fact, I'm actually proud to be an otaku! People who don't watch anime are missing out on the things they can learn from anime. Some of this are important to remember and apply in our lives. Like the 'never give up' cliche, LOL
right, not all anime are for kids. because they are animated, they are not always nonsense!
I never will leave anime behind, no matter how far away I get from it, some force will always lead me back to anime.
