John Lennon dreamed about peace in the world. Will it ever be fulfilled?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPeB6kGxWY0&feature=share
He and many others may be very surprised when they come back and see the following scripture fulfilled:
9For evil doers are cut off, As to those waiting on Jehovah, they possess the land.
10And yet a little, and the wicked is not, And thou hast considered his place, and it is not.
11And the humble do possess the land, And they have delighted themselves In the abundance of peace.
Psalm 37 (Young's Literal Translation)
If the world peace would depend on us, would it become true? Or do we need help from the Almighty God? What do you think?

World peace will never happen until mankind rids itself of greed. And since it's in our nature to be greedy--in love, in material goods, in reputation and everything else--it will never happen.
The only way the world will ever be at peace is when it is reborn after Christ returns and evil has been vanquished and spirits cleansed. That doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying but it is not possible unless every single person on earth sincerely, willingly and whole-heartedly follows the law of all religions--do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Well said. I agree. I believe world peace won't happen until Christ returns also.

Yes, you are right, many are very greedy and many think only at themselves. They are actually fulfilling the prophecy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5
"You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" (New Living Translation)
This behavior is so common in our days, and is part of the sign that shows that we live in the last days and that Crist will soon take over the earth´s government.

I don't believe there will ever be peace as long as there are all these different people of different religions fighting with each other. As long as religious leaders of every varying religion are at odds with everyone else, there will always be holy wars in the name of one god or another.
I dream about a time when the lamb can lay down with the lion and not fear for its life.

I think you are referring to the following scripture about the future paradise. Also people in those days will be as peaceful as the animals described.
"6 In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together;
the leopard will lie down with the baby goat.
The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion,
and a little child will lead them all.
7 The cow will graze near the bear.
The cub and the calf will lie down together.
The lion will eat hay like a cow.
8 The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra.
Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm.
9 Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,
for as the waters fill the sea,
so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord."
Only God can make it happen, and as we live near the time of the end, we can now find out what God wants us to do so that we can survive into the New World together.
Those of us who want to live during that time, need to learn to live in peace with others as long as it depends on us.
In the future paradise there will only be one true religion founded on love.

This is beautiful scripture.. thank you. It makes my eyes melt just reading it. I long for when life is like that. We can't have that without God. We can try.. and it all starts and stops between each one of us and God.. whatever higher power one believes in.

We have a JW Kingdom Hall right near us. I'm Methodist.... some of the teachings may vary from one sect to another, but as long as Christ is still the center I don't think it matters much which we associate ourselves with.

Many will be surprised at the kind of world in which they will be resurrected. They will have much to learn. I do hope that they will make wise decisions then and submit peacefully to God's new arrangements for living. A glorious future awaits us!

It would be a great privilege to have a part in teaching those who come back. It should be easy, as they can see the prophecies have been fulfilled.
How we long for that time!
I wonder how many have said this prayer:"Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth." - and not understood what it really means?
Thank you for your comment!

No, it won't be. There will always be one roadblock to peace and that is the people. As long as we live, there will always be someone who is willing to cause terror to others to start wars for their own greed and profit. Greed is something that it is ingrained int each single person on earth, it's just that most can really control that impulse better than others.
I think that humanity was doomed from the start. Ever since the beginning, there have been wars, there have been conflicts. There have been times of calmness but there is calm before the store. The only time where we are have peace, is the end, when we blow up the planet in some horrific war. It's only going to be inevitable. Everyone have a happy life, while you still can.

Hi, megamatt I think I can understand you and how you think, as many have said that as long there are two people on the earth, they will fight each other.
But if there is an almighty God, then the things would be different.. And if God can change people in our time and make them live in peace, which he has done, then there is still hope.
Let´s also assume, that God has permitted the evil for a certain reason - so that we could see the results of it - and that he will not permit it much longer and he plans to make this earth to a peaceful paradise, just as his purpose was from the beginning..
Then Psalm 37 would be fulfilled:
"10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."

I believe that to attain peace among ourselves and among nations, we must, at first, be at peace with God. If we are at peace with God, we shall acquire the kind of peace He wants us to have within us. This peace shall radiate within us, so that we can have peace with our fellowmen. Ultimately, as this peace is possessed by everyone, we can see the realization of the peace we want for our nation and the whole world.
As such, peace should not come from outside. It is something that has to come within us, share and partake with others.

Well, there are many things being discussed here about peace.
To me, peace is something that should come from inside. As opined in some of the posts, the first thing one should do is to look oneself on the mirror and ask himself if he/she loves peace...peace for others.
If everyone takes a look at himself and realises the small mistakes one commits, world peace would become a reality.

Yes, we have to start with ourselves and the influence we have to others. But it is not easy and we need God´s help to change our personality for the better.
Many have done that and those who hated another race or other group have learned to follow the things that we learn in the Bible:
"Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good." Romans 12:21(New Living Translation)
But I believe we also need divine help to change the whole world, as our power is very limited. Psalm 37:11 talks about the future when the earth is cleaned from all wickedness:
"the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."(King James Version)

We sure need God´s help and as we read in the book of Revelation, Christ has got the authority from his Father to take away the one who influences the world at the moment. We read:
"1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit[a] and a heavy chain in his hand. 2 He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. 3 The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while."Revelation 20 (New Living Translation)
The chapter 21 describes the future paradise - why not read it in your own Bible?
We have something really wonderful to look forward to..

Yes, my friend I like the scripture in Romans 16:20 that is so encouraging: "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus[g] be with you."
It will be a wonderful time to see what Jehovah God will do for his people when all the evil is gone. Just think of meeting the faithful persons we are reading about in the Bible!
Have a great day!

So many have tried to establish different governments and other organisations, but how many have been blessed by God Almighty and have spread the real love to others?
Only God´s kingdom will stay forever and according to the prophecies we find in the Bible we live very near the fulfillment of Daniel 2:44
"During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever." (New Living Translation)
Nothing that is against God´s Kingdom will succeed in the long run. That is really good news..

No it will not.
Since people who believe don't believe in peace. They fight all in the name of their god. Also fighting/wars seems to be in human nature and it's a way to make money.
People love to humilate, break down others in the name of their god and holy wars. So no there will never be peace. It's survival of the fittest and we human beings are worser as animals. There is nothing human about us.

Yes, we all need to be positive, as it helps everyone who wants to love others to look forward to something better.
But as we have seen in the history, it is impossible for us as individuals to change the world even if we can help ourselves and maybe people close to us.
Those of us who believe in God, will trust that he is able to bring peace to the whole earth and he really appreciates our efforts to live in peace as much as we can.
Isaiah 9:7 talks about the Christ´s Kingdom:
"7 His government and its peace
will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David
for all eternity."

Yes, it is important that we work for peace in our life. Those who learn to follow the advice of God, will always be peace makers as it is written in Romans 12:
"17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone." (New Living Translation)
But God is the one who can bring peace to the whold earth as you can see in the scriptures quoted above.
Let´s keep waiting for that day and learn more and more about our loving Creator so that He can see that we are peacemakers!

I don't think peace will ever be fulfilled because we have a world still filled with prejudice and racism and its very evident! It would be beautiful if we can move towards a more kind, sensitive civilization, but people will always have differing views and opinions. When people have different beliefs sometimes they act upon them and this will destroy the peace eventually! Think about your personal views and if someone was to violate them, you'd be rather angry!

If we trust in human beings, we will be disappointed, that is true. That is what a poet wrote long time ago in Psalm 146
"3Trust not in princes -- in a son of man, For he hath no deliverance.
4His spirit goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, In that day have his thoughts perished."
Even if we had a good ruler, they will not live forever. And it is impossible to change some people. But there is hope, and the psalmist continues:
"5 O the happiness of him Who hath the God of Jacob for his help, His hope [is] on Jehovah his God,
6Making the heavens and earth, The sea and all that [is] in them, Who is keeping truth to the age,
7Doing judgment for the oppressed, Giving bread to the hungry.
8Jehovah is loosing the prisoners, Jehovah is opening (the eyes of) the blind, Jehovah is raising the bowed down, Jehovah is loving the righteous,..."
We need a king that is much more powerful than us human beings. Keep on searchin, and you will find him, as he will soon take over the rulership of the whole earth and change everything for the better.

peace... it is something that is almost impossible to achieve. all of us want peace (except for the criminal mind). having a peaceful world really starts to oneself. we should begin having peace in our own life like in home, school, work or just within our friends. we should make peace a habit. it isn't really hard to do so. the problem is compromising with our differences. if we learn to accept others' uniqueness, i think that's the time we can have peace.

Yes, we sure need to start with ourselves and keep peace with others as far as it depends on us.
But we need help from God to get rid of the bad spiritual forces so that they don´t influence people any more. God can also take away the bad rulers who - out of greed or whatever reason - want wars to continue.
Psalm 46 expresses it beautifully:
"8Come ye, see the works of Jehovah, Who hath done astonishing things in the earth,
9Causing wars to cease, Unto the end of the earth, the bow he shivereth, And the spear He hath cut asunder, Chariots he doth burn with fire.
10Desist, and know that I [am] God, I am exalted among nations, I am exalted in the earth."(Young's Literal Translation)
