Moldy Cake

A little over a week ago I bought a cake from the bakery at a local grocery store. After dinner I served up the cake for dessert and when I sat down to eat mine I bit in to a nice big piece of mold that was hiding under the icing. I called the store and talked to the manager who apologized and told me to bring back the cake and I would get my money back which I did. Part of me really feels as if the store should have done something more for me due to my inconvenience and the fact that I had mold in my mouth, which is a lingering taste by the way. What do you think, do you think giving me my money back was sufficient after having to drive all the way to the store to return the cake or do you think they should have giving me my money back and something else like a discount coupon or perhaps another more fresh cake?

it is hard to say, some stores are more generous than others, some are bigger than others and able to give little extras and so on.

This is a chain store, but not a large chain, they have really good locally grown fresh produce. If they had just given my son an apple or a banana that would have been a nice gesture.

maybe you can tell them you are contacting head office because what they gave you was not enough for the damage it caused, tasting that mold. Usually complaints are better handled at the head office of any chain store.

That really is truly disgusting. I can not believe they were not more ebarrassed and did not try harder to please you as a customer, that is just nasty, I think if I was the manager I would have been very concerened about you telling others that you got moldy cake there and that the management did nothing to butter you up after such a disgusting incident. Yuck!!

You would think that they would have given you a refund of your money and offered you a replacement cake. Seems like the least they could do for you considering. You actually took a bite out of the cake. It would have been one thing if you had noticed the mold and NOT put the cake in your mouth.

I think they should have given you your money back and offered you another product in return. I can't believe they didn't give you another cake! Maybe they thought you would be disgusted by another cake! I can't believe they sold you a moldy cake. That is so gross! I would have been totally freaked out by that!

i believe that the store could have replaced the cake. it is just fair to have demanded for more because of the inconvenience on your part.

I think, they should have refunded your money, and some extra money for your gas and maybe one small free cake, but this time made sure that they are fresh. Or maybe they could have also given you a discount coupon for your next buys. It's the least that they could do for selling a moldy cake and in your case, you have eaten some already.

Yes I think they could have made some sort of gesture seeing as you did the right thing by telling them rather than bed mouthing their business and that could have been very bad for their business.

I would have thought you would get a free cake as well.

Well they gave you the minimum a refund and an apology. One would hope for a gift card or a fresh cake in addition to your refunded money. I would not suggest buying a cake from there ever again, as clearly you never know what's under their froting!
